ōngku (p. 84) கிறேன், ஓங்கினேன், வேன், ஓங்க, v. a. To lift up, raise the arm, a weapon, a pestle, கையோங்க. 2. v. n. To grow high, rise above others, above the level; to be lofty--as a building, a mountain, a tree; to shoot forth, rise--as a flame, உயர. 3. To mount, soar, எழும்ப. 4. To rise to the surface--as planted rice when flooded, எழ. 5. To be exalted, dignified, eminent, பெருமையுற. 6. To improve, increase in wealth, renown, learning, &c.; to flourish, prosper, increase in size, &c., அதிகரிக்க. ஓங்கியவொள்வாள். The up-lifted glittering sword. நெஞ்சோங்குபரத்துற்றோர். Those whose hearts are placed on the Supreme God. (நன்னெறி.) துக்கசமுத்திரத்திலேயோங்குகிறான். He rises above the waves in the sea of sorrow. ஓங்கிப்பார்க்க, inf. To stand on tip-toe and look. ஓங்கிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To rise and catch, either by becoming erect, or standing on tip-toe, or jumping. ஓங்கியசெல்வம், s. Abounding wealth. பிறன்மனைநோக்காதபேராண்மைசான்றோர்க்கறனொ ன்றோவான்றவொழுக்கு. The magnanimity which disdains to look on another's wife, is it an act of propriety merely? It is exalted virtue. (குறள்.) 47)

kurngku (p. 124) s. [adjectively குரக்கு, in poetry.] A monkey, வானரம். 2. A climbing plant, முசுமுசுக்கை. 3. An animal in general--as குரங்கம், குராகம். குரங்கின்கைப்பூமாலை. A flower-garland in the hands of a monkey; i. e. a thing of value with one who knows not its use. குரங்குக்குந்தன்குட்டிபொன்குட்டி. Even to a monkey her young is as gold; i. e. one thinks highly of his own. குரங்குதன்குட்டியின்கையைக்கொண்டுபதம்பார்க்கி றதுபோலப்பார்க்கிறான். He tests it by another, as a monkey does a new object by the hand of her young. குரங்குமனம், s. A monkey-mind, retaining its grasp, notions, &c., without inquiry, or discrimination. குரக்குமுகம்--குரங்குமுகம்--குரங்கு மூஞ்சி, s. A monkey face. குரக்குவலி--கொறுக்குவலி, s. A kind of disease with which monkeys are commonly said to be affected. குரங்காட்டம், s. Apishness; apish tricks, antics, &c. 2. v. noun. Harassing, annoying, treating one as a mere monkey. குரங்காட்டமாட--குரங்காட்டங்கொள் ள--குரங்காட்டம்பண்ண, inf. To annoy, to treat one as a monkey. குரங்குகடியன், s. [prov.] A cocoanut, injured at the top, as if by a monkey, squirrel, &c., பழுதுற்றதேங்காய். குரங்குச்சம்பந்தம், s. The mode of a monkey's hold, grasp, &c., to which the hold of the soul on God is sometimes compared.--Note. The hold of a God on a soul is compared to that of a cat on its young. குரங்குச்சேட்டை--குரங்குச்சேஷ்டை, s. Mean, monkeyish tricks--as scratching and eyeing carefully; apish imitation. குரங்குச்சேட்டைபண்ண, inf. To play apish tricks; to act meanly; to mimic, in a low manner. குரங்குப்பிடி, s. A firm grasp--as that of a monkey. 2. Dogmatism in opinion, பிடிவாதம். 3. Urgency, importunity. குரங்குவலி, s. Numbness and pain in the limbs with shivering; a spasmodic affection, incident to puerperal women, ஓர்நோய். 26)

The decalogue. தசதானம், s. Gifts to brahmans, made in the last extremity, as a passport to the other world; or by princes, and other great men, daily; by some also when a daughter is given in marriage, பத்துத்தானம். They are: 1. பசு, cow. 2. பூமி. land. 3. எள், sesamum. 4. பொன், gold. 5. நெய். ghee. 6. வஸ்திரம், cloth. 7. வெல்லம், coarse sugar, or jaggery. 8. நெல், paddy. 9. வெள்ளி, silver. 1. உப்பு. salt. தசதிக்கு--தசதிசை, s. See நாடி. தசப்பிராதுற்பவம், s. prov. more properly. தசபிராதுர்ப்பாவம்.] A poem in the ஆசிரியவிருத்தம் verse, celebrating the ten incarnations of Vishnu, உற்பவமாலை. தசப்பொருத்தம்--கலியாணப்பொருத் தம்--மணப்பொருத்தம். s. [in astrol.] Ten points in which there should be agreement in the horoscope of the bride and bridegroom. 1. நாள், in the lunar asterism or lunar day of birth. 2. கணம், in the three-fold division of the lunar asterisms, தேவர், இராட்சதர், and மனிதர், nine being ascribed to each, and a preference given where both are not in the same division. 3. மாகேந்திரம், in the rising sign, and the fourth, seventh or tenth. (See கேந்தி ரம்.) 4. திரிதீர்க்கம், in the asterism at the birth of the bridegroom which should be above that of the bride. 5. யோனி, in genital characteristics, ascribed to the lunar constellations. 6. இராசி, in the zodiacal signs, in which after the sixth of the bridegroom, his should be above the bride's. 7. அதிபதி, in the rulers of the signs which are the seven planets. 8. வசியம், in the respective zodiacal signs one with another. 9. வேதம், தாலிப்பொருத்தம் or மங்கிலியக்கயிறு, in the astrological circles, in no one of which should both be found. 1. இரச்சு, in lines drawn across the circles in any one of which, both persons should not be found. தசப்பொருத்தம்--செய்யுட்பொருத்தம், s. See செய்யுள். தசமம், s. [prop. தசமஸ்கந்தம்.] The tenth book of Bhagavata. தசமபாகம், s. The tenth part. (Colloq.) தசமி, s. The tenth phase of the moon, in the increase or decrease, பத்தாந் திதி. The ten vital airs supposed to be in the human body. தசாங்கம், s. The ten constituents of a kingdom. 2. The ten parts of a panegyric poem; [ex அங்கம்.] --Note. The constituents of a kingdom are: 1. மலை, mountain. 2. ஆறு, rivers. 3. நாடு, agricultural districts. 4. ஊர், towns 5. மாலை, garlands. 6. பரி, horse. 7. கரி, elephants. 8. முரசு, drums. 9. கொடி, flags or banners. 1. செங்கோல், scepter. தசாங்கத்தயல், s. A poem as தசாங் கப்பத்து. in ஆசிரியவிருத்தம் verse. தசாங்கப்பத்து, s. A poem in நேரி சைவெண்பா verse, celebrating the ten appendages of royalty, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். தசாமிசம்-தசாம்ஸம், s. Decimal fractions; [ex அமிசம்.] தசாவஸ்தை, s. Ten pains, symptoms of death. (See அவஸ்தை.) 2. [in lore poetry.] Ten kinds of விரகாவஸ்தை, which see. தசாவதாரம், s. The ten incarnations of Vishnu. tur (p. 249) s. A prefix used in combination signifying evil, ill, bad, deficient; it is often changed to ற், before the hard letters, to ன் before the soft, as துன்மார்க்கம். Before இடையினம், there is no change. Sometimes ர் is dropped and the relative letter takes its place--as துச்சரிதம், ஒருபசர்க் கை. (See துஷ்.) W. p. 414. DUR. துரதிஷ்டம், s. Ill luck. A wicked life, bad course, கெட்டநடை. 2. (also துர்கதி.) Hell, நரகம். துர்க்கந்தம், s. (also துற்கந்தம்.) Offensive smell, stink, கெட்டநாற்றம். துர்க்கருமம்-துர்க்கன்மம்-துஷ்கருமம், s. Evil actions either in performance, or as accumulated and attaching to the soul. துர்க்கன்மபரிபாகம்--துஷ்கன்மபரிபா கம், s. Ripening or exhaustion of the evil actions of former births. துர்க்கீர்த்தி, s. Ill fame, infamy. துர்க்குணம், s. (also துற்குணம்.) Bad disposition, ill humor, a vicious course, தீக்குணம். துர்க்குணன், s. A vicious, wicked man, தீயன். துர்க்குறி, s. Evil omen, bad sign, unfavorable symptom, ominous gesture. துர்ச்சரிதம், s. (more properly, துச்சரி தம்.) Evil practice, evil courses. துர்ச்சனம், s. Badness, viciousness, maliciousness, mischief, வன்மம். 2. Lewdness, lasciviousness, wantonness, மோக லீலை. 3. Insubordination, refractoriness, rebellion of a youth or dependant, &c., செருக்கு. துர்ச்சனநடத்தை--துர்ச்சனவியோகம், s. Vicious conduct, a vicious course. துர்ச்சனன், s. A petulant or insolent man. துர்ச்சனனைக்கண்டால்தூரவிலகு...... Abstain from an insolent person. துர்ச்செய்கை, s. Evil action. துர்ச்சொப்பனம், s. (also துச்சொப்ப னம்.] A bad or ominous dream. துர்த்தேவதை, s. A malignant demon. துர்ப்பலம், s. Weakness, feebleness, thinness, emaciation, பலவீனம். 2. (fig.) The state of being reduced in circumstances, சிறுமை. முன்னமேதுர்ப்பலைஅதிலுங்கர்ப்பிணி. Before weak, and now also pregnant; or poor, and under a heavy fine. துர்ப்பலன், s. Ill result as predicted in astrology. அமங்கலப்பயன். 2. Bad fruit, ill consequence. துர்ப்பாக்கியம்--தௌர்ப்பாக்கியம், s. Evil, calamity, ill-luck, misery, நிர்ப்பாக் கியம். துர்ப்பிட்சம்--துர்ப்பிக்ஷம், s. Famine, பஞ்சம். See பிட்சம். துர்ப்பீசம், s. An illegitimate child, வம்புப்பிள்ளை. See பீசம். துர்ப்புத்தி, s.
