The fourth or Vellale caste, வேளாளர். உழுதுண்டுவாழ்வாரேவாழ்வார்மற்றெல்லாந்தொ ழுதுண்டுபின்செல்பவர். Those who till the ground enjoy plenty and happiness, the rest being followers and servants of the great depend on their assistance. (குறள்.) தொழுதூண்சுவையிலுழுதூணினிது. To cultivate ground and live by it is more satisfactory than to procure maintenance from others by serving them. உழுதுபுழுதியாக்க, inf. To plough and harrow, to waste. உழுபடை, s. A plough, கலப்பை; [ex படை, implements.] உழுவளைப்பு, s. The turnings in ploughing, தொழுப்பு. உழவு, v. noun. Ploughing, உழு கை. 2. (fig.) (p.) Agriculture, husbandry, tillage, பயிர்செய்யுந்தொழில். உழவின்மிகுத்தஊதியமில்லை. There is no occupation which yields greater profit than agriculture. உழவடைக்க, inf. In epistolary writings and in conversation, this is often used as a compliment. ஏவற்பேய், s. A demon instigated and sent against one, ஏவப்பட்டபேய். ஏவற்பேய்கூரையைப்பிடுங்கும். A hired devil will unroof the house; i. e. a hired foe is more to be dreaded than the person that hires him. 65)

ēvu (p. 79) கிறேன், ஏவினேன், வேன், ஏவ, v. a. To command, order, give directions to, கட்டளையிட. 2. To incite, stir up, prompt, stimulate, move, inspire, rouse, instigate, set on, தூண்ட. 3. oti (p. 82) --ஒதியமரம், s. A tree that yields a kind of gum, ஓர்மரம், Odina woodier.--Note. This tree is of no value and applied proverbially to useless persons as in the following example. ஒதிபெருத்துத்தூணாகுமோ. Though the Odina tree become large, will it answer for a pillar? 2)

kntu (p. 93) s. A joint of the body, யாக் கையின்மூட்டு. 2. The bottom of the neck, the nape, கழுத்தடி. 3. An axle-tree, பண்டி யுளிரும்பு. 4. A carriage, a vehicle, a waggon or cart, பண்டி. 5. A staff, a crutch, support, defence, பற்றுக்கோடு. 6. A post, pillar, தூண். 7. A post for tying elephants, யானையணைதறி. 8. [prov.] A rope for tying oxen together by the neck, மாடுபிணைக்குந் தும்பு. 9. [prov.] To unfasten the noose of the string tied to the ox's neck, தும்பவிழ்க்க. கந்துமாற, inf. [prov.] To change an ox of a pair tied together, ஏரில்மாறிக்கட்ட. கந்துமாறிக்கட்ட, inf. To shift, to change sides, to use chicanery, to scheme --as in paying debts by borrowing of others, &c. கந்துமுரிக்க, inf. [prov.] To turn out of the course--as oxen treading corn, breaking the bounds. It is deemed very unlucky for men or animals to pass from the enclosure of the threshing floor except at the proper entrance. கந்துமுரித்துப்போட்டுப்போகிறான். He has deserted his company. பொலிக்கந்து, s. Chaff in the threshing floor after winnowing, containing some grain. புறக்கந்து, s. The extremities of an axle-tree. 2. The chaff about a heap of winnowed corn. கருங்கந்து, s. The second range of chaff in a threshing floor next to the பொலிக்கந்து. 15)

A forked mark on the forehead of a sect of Vishnuites. கப்புவிட, inf. To fork as a branch, ramify, diverge, கிளைவிட. 28)

kmpm (p. 95) s. A post, a pillar, தூண். 2. A lamp-stand, a candle-stick, &c., விளக் குத்தண்டு. 3. The name of தாலம்பபாஷாணம், வெள்ளைப்பாஷாணம், சாலாங்கபாஷாணம் and கற்பரி பாஷாணம். கம்பக்கூத்து--கம்பநாட்டியம், s. Pole-dancing--it is of two kinds, viz.: ஆரியக்கூத்து and தொம்பர்கூத்து. கம்பக்கூத்தாடி, s. A pole-dancer. கம்பபாணம்--கம்பவாணம், s. [in pyrotechny.] The figure of a man or animal, so constructed as to discharge rockets from the different apertures of the body.
