If it sting, it is a scorpion; if not, it is a harmless gryllus; i. e. we call things good or bad according to their effect on us. கொட்டிக்கொட்டியளக்க, inf. To cast down and measure again and again; i. e. again, one marcal will not make two. கொட்டிகொட்டியளந்தாலுங்குறுணிபத்தாகாது. Though you measure over and over again, one marcal will not make two. கரப்பன்அள்ளிக்கொட்டிப்போட்டது. An eurption has broken out all over the body. பனிகொட்டுகிறது. The dew falls heavily. கொட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To pour out and give, to give to excess, to lavish, to squander. 2. (fig.) To make a display of words, to say more than is proper. சப்பாணிகொட்ட, inf. koḷḷi (p. 147) --கொள்ளிக்கட்டை, s. A fire-brand, நெருப்புவிறகு. கொள்ளிக்கெதிர்போனாலும், வெள்ளிக்கெதிர்போக லாகாது. You may oppose yourself to a fire-brand, but not to the planet Venus --said in reference to going East-ward when Venus is the morning star or Westward when it is the evening star. குடியிருந்தவீட்டிலேகொள்ளிவைக்கிறவன். An incendiary who sets fire to a house where he has received hospitality, i. e., one who returns evil for good. கொள்ளிகுடம்--கொள்ளியுங்குடமும், s. The fire-brand and water-pot which are carried by the chief mourner three times round the funeral pile previous to its being ignited. கொள்ளிக்கண்ணன், s. A fierce-eyed man. 2. One whose looks are blighting. 3. [prov.] A horse or bull with red eyes, deemed ominous. கொள்ளிக்கரப்பன், s. A kind of blain in children resembling scars from burning. See கரப்பன். கொள்ளிக்காற்குதிரை, s. [prov.] A horse with one white leg. கொள்ளிக்கொட்டான்--கொள்ளியெ றும்பு--கொள்ளிவாலெறும்பு--கொள்ளிவாயெறும்பு, s. An ant that stings. See எறும்பு. கொள்ளிசொருகுதல், v. noun. [prov.] To insert a brand in the roof of a house --as an incendiary. 2. To cause or bring about another's ruin. கொள்ளித்தேள், s. [prov.] A scorpion whose sting is very severe, ஓர்தேள். கொள்ளிவட்டம், s. A circle described in the air with a fire-brand by boys in play (p.) கொள்ளிவாய்ச்சர்ப்பம்--கொள்ளிவாய் விரியன், s. A serpent whose bite causes burning smart. கொள்ளிவாய்பிசாசு--கொள்ளிவாய்ப் பேய், s. Ignis fatnus, or jack-with-alantern, (lit.) a fire-mounthed-devil. கொள்ளிவாலி, s. [prov.] A cow or dog with the body black and tail white. கொள்ளிவைத்தல், v. noun. Setting fire in general. 2. Lighting the funeral pile,--as done by the chiefmourner. 3. A poem celebrating the different stages in the infancy and childhood of a hero, comprized in ten parts: 1. காப்பு, putting on the armrings, with magical rites; 2. செங்கீரை, first voluntary movements of the child compared to the motion of herbs by the breeze; 3. தால், lulling the child in the cradle with songs; 4. சப்பாணி, the first clapping of its hands; 5. முத்தம், kissing; 6. வாரானை, extending its hands and calling to be taken; 7. அம்புலி, showing the moon to the infant; 8. சிறுபறை, amusement of a small drum; 9. சிற்றில், making (in play) little houses, or trampling on those made by girls; 1. சிறுதேர். drawing little carriages.--Note. When a heroine is described, instead of the last three, the following are substituted, eighth கழங்கு, a kind of play with brass balls; ninth அம்மானை, a curious play with balls; tenth, ஊசல், swinging. There are two more compositions, bearing this title, one by குமரகுருபரதேசிகர், in praise of மீனாட்சி, the goddess at Madura; the other, by மார்க்கசகாயதேவர், of the childhood of Skanda. பிள்ளைத்தாய்ச்சி, s. A pregnant woman. பிள்ளைத்தேங்காய், s. The best kind of cocoa-nut, reserved for planting, நாற்றுத் தேங்காய். (Jaff.) பிள்ளைத்தேள், s. A centiped; Scolopendra, as மட்டைத்தேள். பிள்ளைப்பிறை, s. The youthful moon, இளஞ்சந்திரன். (p.) பிள்ளைப்பூச்சி, s. A kind of insect, the Gryllus, உழுவான், which going into mud is not defiled--so the spiritual man. பிள்ளைபெற, inf. To bring forth a child. பிள்ளைபெறாதமலடி, s. A barren woman, used of one who is cruel. பிள்ளைப்பெற்றவீடு, s. The house of a lying-in-woman, considered ceremoniously unclean. பிள்ளைப்பேறு, v. noun.
