The gods of Swerga, 33,,, are divided into four classes, with a chief for each கோடி, or 1,,, as follows. 1.துவாதசாதித்தர், the twelve Adityas. ஆதித்தர், (lit.) the twelve suns, chiefs of their class numbering with them, 12,,, 2. ஏகாதசருத்திரர், the eleven Rudras. உருத்திரர், lords of their companies. comprising in all, 11,,, 3. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், the eight Vasus. their classes, including themselves, containing 8,,. 4. மருத்துவர், the two Asvinis, அச்சுவினிகள், the two physicians, the whole class being 2,,. தேவலகன், s. A brahman who attends on an idol, அர்ச்சகப்பிராமணன். W. p. 423. DEVALAKA. தேவலோகம், s. World of the gods, Swerga, the third of the secven upper worlds, of which Indra is king, the lowest heaven of mortals, who assume the form of gods for a residence in it. The enjoyments are all sensual, and the period of their continuance depends on the merit of the persons while on earth. When this is exhausted, they return for another period of probation; or go to a place of suffering for the expiration of previous demerit. This is the only heaven presented to the hope of the multitude, and generally the highest bliss they anticipate, சுவர் க்கம். தேவவசனம்--தேவவாக்கு, s. The word of God, the divine, word, கடவுள்வாக்கு. தேவவசீகரம், s. [R. Cathol. usage] Transubstantiation. See வசீகரணம். தேவவருஷம்--தேவவருடம், s. A year of the gods. See தேவாண்டு. தேவவிரதன், s. DEVAVRUKSHA. தேவவெளிப்படுத்தல், s. (Chirs. usage.) Divine revelation. தேவவைத்தியம், s. Superior medical preparations requiring a knowledge of chemistry, and regarded as of divine origin. Properties, peculiar rights, prerogative, &c., of a deity. 2. Divine providence. See தெய்வாதீனம். தேவாத்திரம்--தேவாஸ்திரம், s. A divine missile-weapon from the gods. தேவாமிர்தம்--தேவாமுதம், s. The ambrosia of the gods, the food of immortality, தேவருணவு. தேவாரம், s. Divine praises, songs, &c., chanted by an assistant of the priest others, after the performance of the puja in the Saiva temples. They were made by the three celebrated servants of Siva, அப்பர், சம்பந்தர் and சுந்தரர், and are called the Tamil Vedas, being considered divine. தேவாலயம், s. Any temple of Kali. காளிகோயில்; [ex கோட்டம்.] 2. A town, ஓ ரூர். W. p. 424. DEVIKOD'D'A. தேவிபட்டனம், s. The town of Devipatam, ஓரூர். தேவீகம்--தேவிகம், s. [com தெய்வீ கம். Divinity. தேவேந்திரன், s. Indra, இந்திரன். தேவோக்கித்தம்--தேவோக்தம், s. Divine revelation, தேவவெளிப்படுத்தல்; [ex Sa. Ukta, spoken. (Beschi.) தேவோத்தியானம், s. māṇikkam (p. 349) s. A ruby, a carbuncle. W. p. 655. MANIKYA. 2. A precious stone in general, இரத்தினப்பொது. (c.) மாணிக்கதீபம், s. A very bright gem, said to have been used in king's palaces as a light. மாணிக்கவாசகர், s. [hon.] A devotee of the Saiva religion and a poet. He flourished during the reign of அரிமர்த்த பாண்டியன் of Madura, and with அப்பர், சுந் தரர், and சம்பந்தர், destroyed Buddhism in Southern India. His compositions, consisting of hymns, and mantras, are considered by Saivas, as of divine authority and are called திருவாசகம், or sacred words. Those of the others, தேவாரம், or sacred hymns. From the place of his nativity, he is also named வாதவூரார். 21)
