அதி
ati (p. 10) A Sanscrit prefix, implying superiority, in place, quality or quantity, உயர்வுப்பொருளைக்காட்டுமடைசொல். Wils. p. 22. AD'HI. அதிகதம், s. arcṉ (p. 22) s. (plu. அரசர்.) A king, prince. இராசா. 2. A supreme master, God, எப்பொருட்குமிறைவன். 3. The planet Jupiter, வியாழம். 4. The title of the chief of the முக்குவர் caste, முக்குவர்தலைவன்.--Note. There were three famous kings; viz.: 1. சேரன். 2. சோழன். 3. பாண்டியன், which see. (p.) அரசரொளி, s. நாலு
nālu (p. 275) --நால், adj. Four, நான்கு. 2. (fig.) Many, general, multifold, universal, all, பல, as நாலுவித்தையும்.--Note. In combination before, க, ச, த, ப, the ல், becomes ற் and before ஞ, ந, ம, it is changed to ன்; sometimes to லா as நாலாகாரியமும், divers matters, various affairs, concerns, circumstances. நாலுகல்வியும். Different branches of knowledge. நாலுகாரியமுமறிந்தவன். A man of general knowledge, one acquainted with men and things. நாலுகையிலும். On all hands, on all sides. நாலுசாதியும். All the castes. 2. Various castes, several castes. நாலுதிக்கும். The four cardinal points. quarters, regions. 2. On all sides, in all directions. நாலுதிக்கிலுஞ்சிதறுண்டுபோக. nīr (p. 277) s. Water, சலம், 2. Juice, liquid, succulence, liquor, fluid, இரசம். 3. Wateriness, moisture, wetness, humidity, ஈரம். 4. Humors of the body, serum, lymph, புண்பொழிநீர். 5. Urine, மூத்திரம்; modeste. 6. (p.) The twentieth lunar asterism, பூரா டம். 7. Nature, property, disposition, குணம். 8. State, condition, நிலை.--Of நீர், water, are இளநீர், உமிநீர், கண்ணீர், குடிநீர், குளி நீர், சிறுநீர், செந்நீர், செயநீர், சேற்றுநீர், தண் ணீர், வெந்நீர், &c., which see in their places. நீரையடித்தால்நீர்விலகாது. If water be beaten it will not divide; i. e. relations, though offended with each other, will reunite. நீர்முகத்தழுக்கில்லை. Where there is water, there is no impurity. நீரடிமுத்து--நீரெட்டிமுத்து, s. A medicinal nut, Jatropha Montana. (Willd.) நீரடைப்பு, v. noun. Stoppage, or suppression of urine, strangury. நீரத்தி, s. A kind of fig-tree. See கொடியத்தி. நீரரண், s. Security of a fortification surrounded by water. See அரண். நீர்மகளிர், s. Nymphs of the waters, நீரில்வாழுந்தெய்வப்பெண்கள். நீரருகல், v. noun. Passing urine with interruptions, and strangury, சிறுநீரருகி யியிறங்கல். நீரலரி, s. A kind if oleander. See அவரி. நீரழிவு--நீரிழிவு, s. [sometimes நீர்க்க ழிவு.] Diabetes. நீராகாரம், s. Water strained from cold rice kept over night for breakfast. நிராசனம்--நீராஞ்சனம், s. [also நிராஞ் சனம்.] Holding a lighted wick in water in which turmeric and lime are dissolved, and margosa leaves placed; and waving it round the idol, ஓர்ஆலாத்தி. 2. Waving lighted, sacrificial grass around ghee, and casting it into the sacred fire; (some give other definitions), சுத்திக ரிக்குமோர்சடங்கு. நீராடல், v. noun. Bathing, playing in water, ஸ்தானஞ்செய்தல். 2. A ripening cocoa-nut in which the water sounds when shaken; also நீராடற்றேங்காய். 3. One of the ten parts of juvenile poetry of the female class. See பிள்ளைத்தமிழ். நீராடற்பதம், s. That stage in the ripening of a cocoa-nut in which when shaken the water sounds. நீராட்ட, inf. To bathe another, bathe an idol, a beast, a corpse, &c., ஸ்நானஞ் செய்விக்க. நீராணிக்கன், s. One who takes care of the sluice of a public tank; used in the Congu country. நீராமைக்கட்டு, s. [sometimes நீராமம்.] A kind of dropsical disease in the abdomen, ஓர்நோய். நீராமை, s. A sea-turtle. 2. As நீரா மைக்கட்டு. நீராம்பல், s. The water-lily. See ஆம் பல். 2. A kind of dropsy, Anasarca, ஓர்நோய். நீராரம்பம், s. Land dependent on irrigation--oppos. to கரடாரம்பம், wild cultivation. நீராரை--நீருளாரை, s. A water-plant, Marsilea. See ஆரை. நீராவி, s. A tank or well, கேணி. 2. Steam, புகை; [ex ஆவி.] நீராவியந்திரம், s. A steam engine. நீராவிமரக்கலம், s. A steamer. நீராழி, s. The sea, as ஆழி, கடல். நீராழிமண்டபம், s. A choultry in the middle of a tank, குளத்தினடுவேகட்டியமண் டபம். நீராளம், s. [prov.] Liquid food, நீரு டன்கலந்தஉணவு. 2. [used in the south.] Mixed sweet toddy, மயக்கமில்லாதகள். நீராளமாயுருக, inf. Touching six members of the body, while repeating the five lettered incantation appropriated to the five faces of Siva, as representing the five operative dcities, ஆறங்கத்தோடு செய்யுஞ்செபம். பிரமசரியம்--பிரமசாரித்துவம், s. The order, condition or religious practice of the Brahmachari or religious unmarried student, நான்கு நிலையினொன்று. பிரமசரியமனுட்டிக்க, inf. To commence the practice of a religious student, commonly about the sixteenth year. பிரமசாபாலம், s. One of the thirty-two Upanishads, உபநிடதமுப்பத்திரண்டினொன்று. பிரமசாரி, s. One who passes from the student to the ascetic or fourth order, without passing through the intermediate stages, பிரமசரியத்தினின்றுஞ்சன் னியாசியாச்சிரமத்திற்புகுந்தோன். பிரமசித்தி, s. Success, in acquiring a knowledge of the deity. பிரமசூத்திரம், s. A thread or cord consisting of three threads worn by brahmans, புரிநூல். 2. The name of a treatise, ஓர்நூல். பிரமசைதன்னியம், s. The original or first cause, God, கடவுள். பிரமஞானம், s. Experimental knowledge of the deity. 2. Regarding every thing as god. பிரமஞானி, s. One who has made great attainments in the knowledge of God, so as to become one with Him, பரமஞானி. பிரமதண்டம், s. A stick to support the chin, used by brahmans, in meditation. பிரமதண்டு, s. A stick used by devotees or yogis, யோகதண்டம். 2. See பிரமம், giddiness. பிரமதத்துவம், s. True knowledge of the Supreme deity, மெய்ஞ்ஞானம். பிரமதாயம், s. What is allowed to brahmans, or held free by them. பிரமதானம்--பிரமஸ்தானம், s. The inmost recess in a temple where the chief idol is placed, as கர்ப்பக்கிரகம். பிரமதேவன், s. The god Brahma, the Creator or Evolver of worlds. பிரமத்துவம், s. The divine nature, கட வுட்டன்மை. பிரமநிருவாணம், s. Union with the deity, கடவுளுடனொன்றுகை. பிரமபதம்--பிரமபதவி, s. The world of Brahma, an inferior state of bliss. பிரமபுத்திரம், s. The river, Brahmaputra, ஓர்நதி. பிரமபுத்திரி, s. The Sarasvati river, சரஸ்வதியாறு. 2. The goddess Sarasvati, சரஸ்வதி. பிரமபுரம், s. Seehali, a town in Southern India on the northern bank of the Cavery, சீகாழி. பிரமபுராணம், s. Puranas which teach that Brahma is the chief deity. In the celebrated eighteen there are two of this class. the பிரமம், and the பதுமம். (சது.) பிரமப்பிரளயம், s. The deluge at the end of the life of Brahma, பிரமனாயுள்முடி வில்வரும்பிரளயம். பிரமமணம், s. One of the eight modes of marriage. See மணம். பிரமமுனி--பிரமரிஷி, s. A Rishi of the Brahman caste, as most of them are. பிரமமூலி, s. A medicinal plant. See பிரமி. பிரமயாகம், s. One of the five யாகம், எச்சமைந்தினொன்று. பிரமயோனி, s. The birth, origin, or extraction of a brahman, பிராமணப்பிறப்பு. பிரமரட்சு, s. A savage man of a monstrous size, பருத்தமுருடன். பிரமரந்திரம், s. The tender part of the crown of the head where the bone is not formed in infancy, and through which it is said the soul of a yogi departs when he chooses to die, உச்சித்துவாரம். பிரமராட்சதன், s. A goblin or savage animated by the soul of a brahman, who in a former birth died with unexpiated sin. பிரமராட்சதி-பிரமராட்சதை, s. The ghost of a brahmani who having died a violent death appears in the form of a demon, inhabiting trees and possessing all the knowledge previously obtained, பார்ப் பாரப்பெண்பேய். பிரமலிபி, s. The writing of Brahma in the forehead of all persons before birth; fate, destiny. See தலைஎழுத்து. பிரமலிபிதப்பாது. The writing of Brahma will not fail. பிரமலோகம், s. The world and heaven of Brahma, being the seventh and highest of the seven upper worlds, also called சத்தியலோகம். (சது.) பிரமவமிசம், s. Lineage in succession from Brahma. 2. The race of brahmans, பிராமணசாதி. பிரமவாதம், s. The religious tenets of the Vedas considered systematically, வேதமதம். பிரமவித்து, s. One of the four grades of those who pursue a true and perfect knowledge of the deity, நால்வகைமுத்தரி லொருவன். பிரமவிந்து--பிரமபிந்து. s. The seed, or progeny of a brahman, &c., பிராமணவிந்து. 2. An epithet used in praise, or compliment, சக்கரவர்த்தி. பிரமாத்திரம்--பிரமாஸ்திரம், s. A famous arrow of supernatural qualities, given by Brahma to some, who had practised extraordinary austerities. பிரமாந்தரம், s.
