icai (p. 45) s. A sound, noise, ஒலி. 2. Praise, புகழ். 3. A word, சொல். 4. A tune, melody, மிடற்றாற்பிறக்குமிசை. 5. Instrumental music, நரம்பிற்பிறக்குமிசை. 6. Sound, harmony in music, a harmonious or musical sound, tone, note, &c., இசைப்பாட்டு. Also a term common to the different parts in music. (p.) (சது.)--The seven principal sounds or notes in the vocal and instrumental music of the Hindus are called, சுரம், in singing, and நரம்பு, on stringed instruments; they are, 1. குரல், the guttural sound, the sound coming from the throat, மிடற்றாற்குரல். 2. துத்தம், the second tone of the gamut, or நி modulated by the tongue, நாவினாற்றுத்தம். 3. கைக்கிளை, the sound caused by the palate, அண்ணத்தாற்கைக்கிளை. 4. உழை, the cerebral, or the sound coming from the head, சிரத்தாலுழை. 5. இளி, that which proceeds from the forehead, நெற்றியாலிளி. 6. விளரி, the pectoral, or that which proceeds from the breast, நெஞ்சால்விளரி. 7. தாரம், that from the nose, or nasal, மூக் காற்றாரம்.--These sounds, they compare: 1. With those of animals--as that of a peacock, a bull, a sheep, &c. 2. With the different tastes of milk, honey, &c. 3. With the different scents of jasmin, nymph&oe;a, &c.--The letters (அட்சரம்.) by which they express these notes are as follow: 1. ஆஅ. 2. ஈஇ. 3. ஊஉ. 4. ஏஎ. 5. ஐஇ. 6. ஓஒ. 7. ஔஉ.--The time or measure, (மாத்திரை,) of these notes is as follows:The 1st note குரல் contains 4 measures நான்கு குரல். 2d துத்தம் contains 4 measures நான்குதுத்தம். 3d கைக்கிளை ,, 2 ,, இரண்டுகைக்கிளை. 4th உழை ,, 3 ,, மூன்றுழை. 5th இளி ,, 4 ,, நான்கிளி. 6th விளரி ,, 3 ,, மூன்றுவிளரி. 7th தாரம் ,, 2 ,, இரண்டுதாரம். From the combinations of these notes or sounds, are formed seven different kinds of airs or tunes; (பாலை) viz.: 1. செம்பாலை, or the air in which the first note is doubled, குரலேகுரல். 2. படுமலைப் பாலை, the air in which the second and first notes are compounded, துத்தமேகுரல். 3. செவ்வழிப்பாலை, the air in which the third and the first notes are compounded, கைக்கிளையேகுரல். 4. அரும்பாலை, the air in which the fourth and the first notes are compounded, உழையேகுரல். 5. கொடி ப்பாலை, the air in which the fifth and first notes are compounded, இளியேகுரல். 6. விளரிப்பாலை, the air in which the sixth and first notes are compouned, விளரியே குரல். 7. மேற்செம்பாலை, the air in which the seventh and first notes are compounded, தாரமேகுரல்.--The differences of these tunes are as follow; viz.: 1. கொ டிப்பாலை, a tune higher than செம்பாலை. 2. விளரிப்பாலை and மேற்செம்பாலை, tunes higher than கொடிச்செம்பாலை.--The three different parts in music are: 1. மந்தவிசை, bass, or the lowest pitch--also called, மந்தரம் or காகுளி. 2. மத்திமலிசை, tenor or medium--also called, மதுரம் or சமன். 3. தாரவிசை, treble or the highest pitch-also called, உச்சம் or வல்லிசை.--The different parts are not sung together, but one after another in succession--மந்த விசை, takes its pitch in the key note of the bass--the மத்திமவிசை, in the fifth-and the உச்சம், in the octave. The term is also applied to the several notes or sounds of the octave--also called சுரம்-as the first சுரம், the second சுரம், &c., and the whole are called the சரளி or gamut. இசைகேடு, s. Dissonance, discord, want of harmony, சுரபேதம். 2. Dishonor, disgrace, ill-fame, அவகீர்த்தி. 3. Want of opportunity, inconvenience, inauspiciousness--as of a day, ஒத்துக்கொள் ளாமை. 4. [prov.] Reduced state, emaciated state, இடைந்துபோனநிலைமை. இசைகொள்ள, inf. To be renowned, கீர்த்திபெற. இசைக்குழல், s. A musical windinstrument, ஊதுகுழல். இசைத்தமிழ், s. One of the three kinds of Tamil odes, or other poetry adapted to song--also the various changes made to accommodate language to music, முத்தமிழினொன்று. இசைத்திரிபு, s. A change of tune by mistake, ஓசைப்பிறழ்வு. 2. Variation in music, இசைமாறுகை. 3. A different enunciation of the same terms, according to the different senses they are intended to convey, இசையறுத்துக்கூறுகை-as செம்பொன்பதின்கழஞ்சு, may be செம்பு ஒன் பதின்கழஞ்சு, the copper is nine கழஞ்சு--or செம்பொன் பதின்கழஞ்சு, the fine gold is ten கழஞ்சு. So குறும்பரம்பு may be குறும்பர் அம்பு, the army of territorial chiefs-or குறும் பரம்பு, a short board used for smoothing ploughed fields. இசைநாள், s. The twenty-fifth, also the twenty-sixth lunar mansions, பூரட்டாதி and உத்திரட்டாதி. இசைநிறை, s. [in poetry.] The use of a letter, or word to fill the measure-an expletive, ஓரிடைச்சொல்; as ஏஎ யிவ ளொருத்திபேடி. Heh! This is a hermaphrodite. இசைநூல், s. The science of music. இசைப்பாட்டு, s. A melody, tune, song, காந்தாரம். இசைமடந்தை, s. Sarasvati, the wife of Brahma; the goddess of speech, of music, fame, praise, &c., சரச்சுவதி. (p.) இசையுள்ளான், s. A man of fame or praise. இசையெச்சம், s. [in grammar.] Ellipsis or omission of a word, சொல் லெச்சம். இசையெடுக்க, inf. To pitch or begin a tune. இசைவல்லோர்--இசைவாணர். s. Proficients in music, சங்கீதபாடகர். 2. Heavenly choristers, கந்தருவர். 39)

iṭai (p. 45) s. Middle, midst, centre, நடு. 2. The middle of a body, the waist, மருங்குல். 3. As இடைச்சொல்--a particle. 4. Interval of time, &c., நடுநேரம். 5. (p.) Place, room, space, position, situation, இடம். 6. A form of the seventh or locative case, ஏழனுருபு. 7. The side of a thing, place, quarter, region, பக்கம். 8. An elephant, யானை. 9. Interim, opportunity, con venient season, season, சமயம். 1. The full moon, பௌரணை. 11. A measure of length, breadth, thickness, &c., நீட்டலளவையிலொ ன்று. 12. One of the three நாடி, or passages for the breath--that through the left nostril, the lunar nerve or vessel, திரிநாடி யிலொன்று. 13. One of the (நாடி) nerves or arteries, தசநாடியிலொன்று. (See நாடி.) 14. (misused for எடை) Weight, gravity நிறை. (See சுழிமுனை, and பிங்கலை.) நல்லாரிடைப்புக்கு. Associating with the good. இடைகலை, s. The breath of the left nostril--as சந்திரகலை. See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. Pillaging, plunder, free booty, plundering without regard to either party, நடுக்கொள்ளை. 2. (in Agastiar.) The ravages of an epidemic discase, கொள்ளைநோயான்வருமழிவு. இடைசுருங்குபறை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The eleventh lunar asterism, in which Saturn is considered very malignant. See கடையெழுஞ்சனி and முதலெழுஞ் சனி. இடைச்சன், s. The second child, இரண்டாம்பேறு. (c.) இடைச்சாதி, s. The second or middle tribe of வைசியர்--the third caste. இடைச்சேரி, s. A shepherd's village. இடைத்தட்டு, s. Getting profit indirectly by interposing between parties, &c. or by purchasing goods of one and selling them again from a distance. இடைநடு, s. The middle emphatically (a pleonasm in rhetoric.) இடைநரை, s. Hair or beard growing grey here and there. இடைநிலை, s. In verbs generally, the characteristics of tense, வினையிடைநிலை. 2. A neutral state, neutral or middle state, stagnation in business transactions, இருபுறத்திலுஞ்சாராமனிற்கை. 3. In some compound nouns, one of the component parts, பெயரிடைநிலை. இடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. One of the beauties of poetry, விளக்கணிமூன்றிலொன்று. See தீபகம். இடைநிலைமயக்கு, s. [in orthography.] The proper combination of letters in the middle of a word, மொழியி லிரண்டெழுத்து மயங்கிநிற்கை--if the same consonant be repeated in the middle of a word, it is called, உடனிலைமெய்மயக்கு; if otherwise, it is called, வேற்றுநிலைமெய்ம யக்கு. இடைநீரினிற்க, inf. [prov.] To swim with the body erect and the water only up to the waist. இடைப்பட, inf. To interpose, happen in the interim, come in, between, among, &c., to happen, இடையிலுண்டாக. இடைப்படுதானம், s. Giving of a secondary order, bestowing through pity on the poor, the blind, மத்திமதானம். இடைப்பழம், s. Ripe fruits interspersed among the unripe. இடைப்பழம்பழுத்தல், v. noun. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. A truss, girdle, அரைப்பூட்டு. இடைப்போகம், s. An interior crop, out of season, இடையிற்புன்பயிர்விளைவு. இடைமடக்கு, s. Silencing one by vociferation, இடையிற்றடுக்கை. 2. Haughty speaking, இடக்குமடக்கானபேச்சு. 3. [in prosody.] The repetition of a word in the middle of a line with a varied meaning. See மடக்கு. இடைமுள், s. Small, new eruptions about a healing ulcer or bile, மறு முள்பாய்கை. 2. A disease, a kind of eruption, ஓர்கரப்பன். இடைமேடு, s. Rice-land of moderate height, நடுத்தரமானமேடு. இடையற, inf. To cease or terminate suddenly. இடையறாவன்பு, s. Never-ceasing love. இடையன், s. (fem. இடைச்சி.) A shepherd--as occupying a middle position. இடைப்புத்திபிடரியிலே. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. An intermediate space or time. அந்தவேலை யிடையாந்தரத்திலே கெட்டுப்போ யிற்று. The business was interrupted, spoiled in the interim. இடையாயர், s. Persons of a middling class in piety, excellence, &c. See தலை and கடை. இடையிட, inf. To intervene, be interspersed, to have intermediate spaces either of time or place, to intermit, happen intermediately, நடுவிற்றோன்ற. இடையிட்டுவந்தசெல்வம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. To take off property at one's death--as persons who are not heirs. 3. To seize and carry off property from one who has stolen it--as a constable from a thief. (c.) இடையிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. To get a living at the expense of others, not reducing one's own stock. (c.) இடையினவெதுகை, s. One of the இனவெதுகை--that in which the second letter of each line is any of the medial letters. இடையீடு, s. Obstacle, impediment, frustration, விக்கினம். 2. Equivalent, equilibrium, ஈடு. இடையூறு, s. Frustration, interruption, disappointment, obstruction, hinderance, mishap, casualty, contingence, misfortune, disaster, இடர். (c.) இடையெண், s. A poem increasing and decreasing like the waves of the sea, அம்போதரங்கத்தொன்று. இடையொடுகடைமடக்கு, s. A figure in Rhetoric, repetition of a word or phrase in the middle and end of a line with different meanings, மடக்கணியி லொன்று. இடைவழக்கு, s. [prov.] A suit at law instituted by a new claimant while the previous one is going forward, கிளை வழக்கு. இடைவழக்காளி, s. An intervening party in a law-suit. இடைவழி, s. Midway. இடைவள்ளல், s. A term common to the second of the three classes of kings famed for liberality. (p.) இடைவாய், s. The degrees marked upon a steel-yard. இடைவிட, inf. To intermit, suspend, interrupt, leave intermissions, interstices, &c. இடைவிட்டுவிட்டு. Every other one. இடைவிடாமழை, s. Incessant rain. இடைவிடாமல், neg. v. part. Incessantly, constantly, without intermission. இடைவெட்டுப்பணம், s. A clipped or imperfectly stamped coin, மாறுமத் திரைவிழுந்தபணம். 2. [prov.] Profit made indirectly, பொறுக்கியெடுத்தபணம். இடைவெட்டுப்பேச்சு, s. Derision, ridicule. இடைவெளி, s. An intervening space, நடுவெளி. எட்கிடை--எள்ளிடை, s. The thickness of a rape-seed. ēẕu (p. 79) . Seven, septuple, seven fold, ஓரெண்.--Note. Seven is considered a special or sacred number. As a prefix it is often எழு or ஏழ். எழுகடல்--ஏழ்கடல், s. The seven oceans. எழுநிலைக்கோபுரம், s. A tower seven stories high. எழுநிலைமாடம், s. A palace seven stories high, lit. with seven door frames one above another. எழுபிறப்பு--ஏழ்பவம்--ஏழ்பிறப் பு, s. The seven different living beings, viz.: 1. தேவர், supernals. 2. மக்கள், men. 3. விலங்கு, beasts. 4. பறவை, birds. 5. ஊர்வன, reptiles. 6. நீர்வாழ்வன, aquatic creatures. 7. தாவரம், immovable things --as trees, plants. ஏழடிபின்போக, inf. To accompany a poet or learned person seven steps on his departure. ஏழத்தனை. Seven-fold. ஏழரை--எழரையாண்டுச்சனி, s. The period of saturn's evil influence being seven-and-half years. See மங்கு சனி, பொங்குசனி, மரணசனி. ஏழனுருபு, s. The seventh case or local ablative, ஏழாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. ஏழாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage-shed when planted on the seventh day before the wedding, a lucky day being chosen. ஏழுகோணம், s. A heptagon, septangular figure. ஏழுதீவு, s. The seven continents. ஏழுபருவம், s. The seven stages of life. See பருவம். ஏழுலகம், s. The seven worlds, including the earth and six supernal worlds. ஏழேழு, s. Seven times seven. 2. Seven of each, எவ்வேழு. ஏழேழுதலைமுறை, s. Seven generations, the duplication of the numeral indicating and equal number of generations both on the side of husband and wife. ஏழ்பரியோன், s. kiṭ (p. 108) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To lie, lie down, lie in a state of sleep or inactivity, &c., to lie-as a stone, or other lifeless bodies, படுக்க. 2. To be in a state or condition, to exist, இருக்க. 3. To remain, to continue, தரித்திருக்க.--Note. It is often used contemptuously, and sometimes assumes a transitive form. கிடக்கட்டும். Never mind; it is of no consequence; let it be; leave it untouched. அதுவெகுநாளைக்குக் கிடக்கும். It will endure a long time; will last long. காரணங்கிடக்கும். There is a cause. முட்டக்கிடவாது. It will not bear a slight hit or shove. ஊர்அமர்க்களமாய்க்கிடக்கிறது. There is a row or riot in town, lit. the country is a battlefield. அதுகிடக்க. Leaving that; further more. சும்மாகிட. Be quiet, hush. சென்றதுகிடந்திட. Leaving what is past. பகைவர்வருகிறாரென்று கிடக்கிறது. The rumour, the report is, that the enemy is coming. வியாதியாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be sick. கிடக்கை, v. noun. Lying, கிடத்தல். 2. s. State, condition, நிலைமை. 3. A bed, a couch, any sleeping place, படுக்கை. 4. The earth, பூமி. மனக்கிடக்கை, s. A feeling, as it exists in the mind; one's own feeling, மனக்கருத்து. 2. Emotion, pathos, passion, உளத்தியல். கிடப்பு, v. noun. Lying, கிடக்கை. 2. s. State, condition--commonly undersirable--as suffering, hunger, &c., இருக்கை. கிடை, v. noun. Lying, lying prostrate, a reclining posture, கிடக்கை. 2. s. State, condition--commonly not desirable, நிலை மை. 3. A fold, a pen, a stall, a nest, a lair, any place where beasts or birds lie, --as ஆட்டுக்கிடை, a sheep-fold, மாட்டுக் கிடை, a cow-stall, &c. கிடைகாட்ட, inf. To lie on the back-as beasts when dying. கிடைகூட்ட--கிடைமறிக்க--கிடைவை க்க, inf. To pen up or fold cattle for their manure. கிடைச்சரக்கு, s. Goods lying long on hand. கிடைதலை, s. The condition of being bed-ridden; prostration by sickness or old age. கிடைநாய், s. A shepherd's dog. கிடைப்பட, inf. To be laid on a bed of sickness, to lie ill. கிடைப்பாடு, v. noun. Lingering on a bed of sickness; being bed-ridden, being long lost, by theft, &c. கிடைபாய், s. Bed-mat, a mat for sleeping on. See பாய். கிடைமாடு, s. Cows in a pen, கிடையி லுள்ளமாடு. கட்டுக்கிடையாயிருக்க, inf. To lie a long time unopened, and thus liable to damage. கிடந்தகிடை, Lying as before. கிடந்தகிடையிலேகிடக்கிறான். He still lies as he did. 2. He remains as he was. கிடந்தகிடையைமறந்துவிட்டான். He has forgotten his former estate. நான்மூன்றுமாசங்கிடைவிடவில்லை. I have not left my bed for these three months. கிடவாக்கிடை, [vul.] Hardship, unusual severity, hunger, &c., கஷ்டம். கிடவாக்கிடைகிடக்க, inf. To be starved. 2. To pinch one's self. 27)

koṭṭu (p. 146) கிறேன், கொட்டினேன், வேன், கொட்ட, v. a. To strike, to beat a drum, a tambourine, &c., to play on an indtrument of music, பறைகின்னரமுதலியகொட்ட. 2. To hammer, beat, malleate--as a brazier, கம்மியரடிக்க. 3. To clap the hands, கைகொட்ட. 4. To dance--as in the கும்மி dance; to frolic, கும்மியடித்தாட. 5. To clap or stick on, to daub sandal or fragrant pastes on the body, அப்ப. (p.) 6. To sting --as a reptile or insect, தேள்முதலியகொட்ட. 7. To cuff, குட்ட. 8. (Sans. Khót'a.) Wils. p. 275. To cast, pour out-as corn, sand, &c., from a basket or sack; to throw or cast into a vessel, sack; &c.; to pour forth, போட. 9. To shed--as leaves, fruits, &c., சொரிய. 1. v. n. To be shed or cast out, to fall, சிந்த. கொட்டினாற்றேள் கொட்டாவிட்டாற்பிள்ளைப்பூச்சி. If it sting, it is a scorpion; if not, it is a harmless gryllus; i. e. we call things good or bad according to their effect on us. கொட்டிக்கொட்டியளக்க, inf. To cast down and measure again and again; i. e. again, one marcal will not make two. கொட்டிகொட்டியளந்தாலுங்குறுணிபத்தாகாது. Though you measure over and over again, one marcal will not make two. கரப்பன்அள்ளிக்கொட்டிப்போட்டது. An eurption has broken out all over the body. பனிகொட்டுகிறது. The dew falls heavily. கொட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To pour out and give, to give to excess, to lavish, to squander. 2. (fig.) To make a display of words, to say more than is proper. சப்பாணிகொட்ட, inf. To clap hands --as infants in play. See சப்பாணி. கொட்டு, v. noun. Beating, drumming, malleating, &c. See கொட்டு, v. கொட்டுக்கன்னார், s. Braziers who work by beating, not casting. கொட்டுக்காரர், s. [prov.] Drummers--as a caste. கொட்டுக்கிடாரம், s. A large brass boiler made by beating. கொட்டுக்கூடை, s. A metal vessel. 2. A cup-shaped basket. கொட்டுண்ண, inf. To be shed, as leaves, fruits, &c.; to be shot out; to be spilt--as sand, flour, &c. கொட்டுமுழக்கு, v. noun. Beating of drums; an exhibition of drumming. கொட்டுமுறி, s. A superior kind of brass. கொட்டுமண், s. Earth thrown down to improve land, repair a road, &c.; made soil [in opp. to நிலைமண்.] கொட்டுமரம், s. A dyer's block for beating cloth, that it may take the dye. கொட்டுமேளம், s. A kind of drum. 2. Drumming. கொட்டுவாய், s. The part stung by a scorpion other reptile. கொட்டுவான், s. See Beschi's Shen-Tamil Gram. p. 85. நிலைமண்டுதல், v. noun. Making a long stay in a place from home. 2. Sticking closely to a place, as a person, or animal. நிலைமாறுதல், v. noun. Changing place, principles or religion, being proselyted, இடமாறுதல். 2. [in gram.] Being changed in place--as letters, in words, as வைகாசி for வைசாகி, the latter being according to the original, சொல்லினெழுத்துமா றுதல். நிலைமொழி, s. [in gram.] The preceding or antecedent word, வருமொழிக்கு முதன்மொழி. நிலையகம், s. House, abode, வீடு. (p.) நிலையங்கி, s. A robe, a cloak. நிலையழிய, inf. To be unsettled as a kingdom, or ruined as a family, &c. 2. To depart from right principles, as நிலைதவற. 3. To be discomfited, தட்டழிய. நிலையழிவு, v. noun. Defeat, discomfiture, &c., as தட்டுக்கேடு. நிலையறிதல், v. noun. Knowing one's standing, rank, character or principles. நிலையாடி, appel. n. A weaver's swift. நெய்வார்கருவியுளொன்று. 2. Standing looking glass as நிலைக்கண்ணாடி. நிலையாகக்கேட்டல், v. noun. Hearing steadily, attentively, fixedly, உறுதிாயாய்க் கேட்டல். நிலையிடல், v. noun. Establishing, confirming, ஸ்தாபித்தல். நிலையியற்பொருள், s. A motionless inanimate thing. (p.) நிலையில்லாமை--நிலையின்மை, v. noun. (neg.) Transientness, transitoriness, அநித்தியம். 2. Fickleness, wavering, instability, உறுதியின்மை. நிலையில்லாதவன், appel. n. A changeable person, one who breaks his word. நிலையுடைக்கட்டை, s. A pivot. (R.) நிலையுடைமை, v. noun. Stability, firmness. (p.) நிலையுமல், s. [prov.] A large basket for grain, &c., kept stationary. நிலையுரல், s. A large mortar. நிலையூன்ற, inf. To take firm footing, become firmly settled in place, பலப் பட. 2. To become firmly rooted as a tree, வேரூன்ற. நிலைவரம், s. [improp. நிலைபரம். Tel. நிலவரமு.] State, condition, circumstances, நிலைமை. 2. Certainty, assurance, உண்மை. 3. Firmness, steadiness, sureness, உறுதி. நிலைவரப்பட்டவன், appel. n. A person who may be depended upon. நிலைவிளக்கு, s. Lamps placed in a square frame in a temple opposite the door; being stationary, not taken for other purposes. See சட்டவிளக்கு. ஒருநிலையாய்நிற்றல், v. noun. Continuing in a stationary posture. 2. [also ஒருகாலிலேநிற்றல்.] Persisiting, commonly in an improper request. 156)
