ஆர்
ār (p. 41) --ஆரு, கிறேன், ஆர்ந்தேன், வே ன், ஆர, v. n. To become full, complete, entire, crowded, to abound, நிறைய. 2. To abide, stay, தங்க. 3. To join, belong to, பொருந்த. 4. v. a To eat, drink, take food, சாப்பட. 5. To suffer, enjoy, experience, receive the fruit of actions, performed in former births, வினைப்பயனுகர. (p.) ஆர்ந்தமர்ந்துசெய். Be expeditious but with caution; i. e. let not your haste out-run your wit. அமையாரும்வெற்ப, O! king of the hills covered by the bamboos. ஆரஞர், s. Abundant sorrow, மி குதுக்கம். ஆரருள், s. இசை
icai (p. 45) s. A sound, noise, ஒலி. 2. Praise, புகழ். 3. A word, சொல். 4. A tune, melody, மிடற்றாற்பிறக்குமிசை. 5. Instrumental music, நரம்பிற்பிறக்குமிசை. 6. Sound, harmony in music, a harmonious or musical sound, tone, note, &c., இசைப்பாட்டு. Also a term common to the different parts in music. (p.) (சது.)--The seven principal sounds or notes in the vocal and instrumental music of the Hindus are called, சுரம், in singing, and நரம்பு, on stringed instruments; they are, 1. குரல், the guttural sound, the sound coming from the throat, மிடற்றாற்குரல். 2. துத்தம், the second tone of the gamut, or நி modulated by the tongue, நாவினாற்றுத்தம். 3. கைக்கிளை, the sound caused by the palate, அண்ணத்தாற்கைக்கிளை. 4. உழை, the cerebral, or the sound coming from the head, சிரத்தாலுழை. 5. இளி, that which proceeds from the forehead, நெற்றியாலிளி. 6. விளரி, the pectoral, or that which proceeds from the breast, நெஞ்சால்விளரி. 7. தாரம், that from the nose, or nasal, மூக் காற்றாரம்.--These sounds, they compare: 1. With those of animals--as that of a peacock, a bull, a sheep, &c. 2. With the different tastes of milk, honey, &c. 3. With the different scents of jasmin, nymph&oe;a, &c.--The letters (அட்சரம்.) by which they express these notes are as follow: 1. ஆஅ. 2. ஈஇ. 3. ஊஉ. 4. ஏஎ. 5. ஐஇ. 6. ஓஒ. 7. ஔஉ.--The time or measure, (மாத்திரை,) of these notes is as follows:The 1st note குரல் contains 4 measures நான்கு குரல். 2d துத்தம் contains 4 measures நான்குதுத்தம். 3d கைக்கிளை ,, 2 ,, இரண்டுகைக்கிளை. 4th உழை ,, 3 ,, மூன்றுழை. 5th இளி ,, 4 ,, நான்கிளி. 6th விளரி ,, 3 ,, மூன்றுவிளரி. 7th தாரம் ,, 2 ,, இரண்டுதாரம். From the combinations of these notes or sounds, are formed seven different kinds of airs or tunes; (பாலை) viz.: 1. செம்பாலை, or the air in which the first note is doubled, குரலேகுரல். 2. படுமலைப் பாலை, the air in which the second and first notes are compounded, துத்தமேகுரல். 3. செவ்வழிப்பாலை, the air in which the third and the first notes are compounded, கைக்கிளையேகுரல். 4. அரும்பாலை, the air in which the fourth and the first notes are compounded, உழையேகுரல். 5. கொடி ப்பாலை, the air in which the fifth and first notes are compounded, இளியேகுரல். 6. விளரிப்பாலை, the air in which the sixth and first notes are compouned, விளரியே குரல். 7. மேற்செம்பாலை, the air in which the seventh and first notes are compounded, தாரமேகுரல்.--The differences of these tunes are as follow; viz.: 1. கொ டிப்பாலை, a tune higher than செம்பாலை. 2. விளரிப்பாலை and மேற்செம்பாலை, tunes higher than கொடிச்செம்பாலை.--The three different parts in music are: 1. மந்தவிசை, bass, or the lowest pitch--also called, மந்தரம் or காகுளி. 2. மத்திமலிசை, tenor or medium--also called, மதுரம் or சமன். 3. தாரவிசை, treble or the highest pitch-also called, உச்சம் or வல்லிசை.--The different parts are not sung together, but one after another in succession--மந்த விசை, takes its pitch in the key note of the bass--the மத்திமவிசை, in the fifth-and the உச்சம், in the octave. The term is also applied to the several notes or sounds of the octave--also called சுரம்-as the first சுரம், the second சுரம், &c., and the whole are called the சரளி or gamut. இசைகேடு, s. Dissonance, discord, want of harmony, சுரபேதம். 2. Dishonor, disgrace, ill-fame, அவகீர்த்தி. 3. Want of opportunity, inconvenience, inauspiciousness--as of a day, ஒத்துக்கொள் ளாமை. 4. [prov.] Reduced state, emaciated state, இடைந்துபோனநிலைமை. இசைகொள்ள, inf. To be renowned, கீர்த்திபெற. இசைக்குழல், s. A musical windinstrument, ஊதுகுழல். இசைத்தமிழ், s. One of the three kinds of Tamil odes, or other poetry adapted to song--also the various changes made to accommodate language to music, முத்தமிழினொன்று. இசைத்திரிபு, s. A change of tune by mistake, ஓசைப்பிறழ்வு. 2. Variation in music, இசைமாறுகை. 3. A different enunciation of the same terms, according to the different senses they are intended to convey, இசையறுத்துக்கூறுகை-as செம்பொன்பதின்கழஞ்சு, may be செம்பு ஒன் பதின்கழஞ்சு, the copper is nine கழஞ்சு--or செம்பொன் பதின்கழஞ்சு, the fine gold is ten கழஞ்சு. So குறும்பரம்பு may be குறும்பர் அம்பு, the army of territorial chiefs-or குறும் பரம்பு, a short board used for smoothing ploughed fields. இசைநாள், s. The twenty-fifth, also the twenty-sixth lunar mansions, பூரட்டாதி and உத்திரட்டாதி. இசைநிறை, s. [in poetry.] The use of a letter, or word to fill the measure-an expletive, ஓரிடைச்சொல்; as ஏஎ யிவ ளொருத்திபேடி. Heh! This is a hermaphrodite. இசைநூல், s. The science of music. இசைப்பாட்டு, s. A melody, tune, song, காந்தாரம். இசைமடந்தை, s. Sarasvati, the wife of Brahma; the goddess of speech, of music, fame, praise, &c., சரச்சுவதி. (p.) இசையுள்ளான், s. A man of fame or praise. இசையெச்சம், s. [in grammar.] Ellipsis or omission of a word, சொல் லெச்சம். இசையெடுக்க, inf. To pitch or begin a tune. இசைவல்லோர்--இசைவாணர். s. இல்
il (p. 55) . Not, non-existence, death, மரணம். (p.) 2. The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. O! incomparable mind; O! mind debased beyond comparison. இலி, s. A person, or thing possessed of nothing. பிறப்பிலி, s. He who is without birth--the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். (p.) இறையிலி, s. He who is exempt from taxes; [ex இறை, tribute; இல், not; இ, affix.] இந்தநிலமிறையிலி. This field is not taxed. இல்பொருள், s. Poverty, want, தரித்திரம். இல்லார்--இல்லோர், s. The poor, the destitute, those who are in want, தரித்திரர். இல்லெனல், v. noun. Death, extinction, சாதல். 2. Denying, இல்லையென் றசொல்லல். இல்லை, s. Negation, இன்மை. 2. A defective verb implying absolute negation, added to nouns, pronouns, verbs or participles. 3. Death, extinction of life, சாதல். இல்லையாகியவென்மகற்காண்பன். I shall see my deceased son. இல்லையாகில்--இல்லையென்கில்--இல்லையெ ன்றால். If not, or else, otherwise. வருகிறையோ இல்லையோ? Will you come or not? ஒருக்காலுமில்லை. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. Unjust lawsuit, பொய்வழக்கு. எண்ணில்காலம், s. Incalculable time. அருளிலார், s. Those devoid of benevolence. இன்றி, v. part. from the root இல். Without. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay. ஒருபிரயாசமுமின்றி. iḷmai (p. 56) s. Youth, tenderness, immatureness, juvenility, infancy, இளமைப்பரு வம். 2. Indiscretion, immaturity of knowledge and intellect, illusion, உன்மத்தம். The opposite to இளமை is முதுமை. இளமையிலேபுண்ணியத்தோடேபழகு. Accustom thyself to virtue from thy youth. இளமையிற்கல். Learn from thy infancy. இளங்கதிர், s. Young ears of corn, பயிரினிளங்கதிர். 2. The early rays of the sun, இளங்கிரணம். 3. The sun early in the morning, உதையாதித்தன். இளங்கலையன், s. A species of paddy that ripens early, ஓர்நெல். இளங்கன்று, s. A young calf, சிறு கன்று. 2. A sapling, மரக்கன்று. இளங்காய், s. Green, unripe fruit, fruit just formed. இளங்கார், s. A kind of paddy which is reaped in the early part of the dark season, கார்நெல். இளங்கால், s. The betel creeper recently planted, வெற்றிலையிளங்கொடி. இளங்காற்று, s. A gentle breeze. இளங்குரல், s. A low, suppressed cry--as at the commencement of a funeral wail, அமர்ந்தகுரல். 2. A shrill, fine voice, சிறுகுரல். (c.) 3. (p.) A young ear of corn, பயிரிளங்கதிர். இளங்கொடி, s. A young creeper, சிறுகொடி. 2. The secundine or afterbirth of a beast, பசுவினஞ்சுக்கொடி. 3. (fig.) [in poetry.] A female, பெண். இளங்கொற்றி, s. A cow that has recently calved, இளங்கன்றுடைப்பசு. இளசு, appel. noun. [prop. இளைசு.] That which is young, tender. இளஞ்சந்திரன்--இளம்பிறை, s. Youth, juvenility, இளமைப்பருவம். 2. Being reduced in rank, lowness of circumstances, want of respectability, lightness, எளிமை. ஆளிளந்தலைகண்டுதோணிமிதக்கும். A tender skull, a thin skull, the hair of which early turns grey, the teeth of the person falling out prematurely. இளமத்தியானம், s. Towards mid-day. இளமலர், s. A bud about to burst. இளமழை, s. A light shower of rain, drizzling rain. இளமையோன், s. A youth, a young man. கட்டிளமையோன், s. A very young man--as மழவன். இளமைவழிபாடு--இளவழிபாடு, s. Fickleness, unsteadiness. 2. Elements, rudiments. இளம்பசி, s. Slight hunger--as between meals, easily relieved by light food, or fruit. இளம்பச்சை, s. Light green. இளம்பதம், s. Imperfectness, immaturity, moderateness in state or quality, இளமை. 2. A peculiar quality in medicinal oils derived from immature heat in some cases a defect, in others an excellence, இளம்பாகம். 3. A thin consistency obtained by melting, the first stage of melting, உருகுபதம். 4. The state of sweetmeats, pastries, or other kinds of food imperfectly cooked, வேகாப்பதம். 5. The state of oils or electuaries insufficiently prepared, இலேகியமுதலியவற்றின் பதக்குறைவு. 6. The quality of paddy, &c., imperfectly or moderately dried after boiling, நெல்முதலியவற்றின்காய்ச்சற்கு றைவு. 7. The state of being slightly parched, toasted, &c., வறுபடாப்பொரி. இளம்பயிர், s. Young shoots of corn, corn in a fit state to be transplanted. இளம்பருவம்--இளம்பிராயம், s. Juvenility, youth, early stage of existence. இளம்பறியல், s. That which is plucked when immature--said of cocoanuts. இளம்பாடு, s. Sufferings of nonage, இளமையிற்படும்பாடு. 2. Immaturity, unripeness, imperfection, இளம்பதம். இளம்பிடி, s. A young female elephant, சிறியபெண்யானை. 2. A woman, a lady, பெண்; [ex பிடி, a female elephant whose stately movements a lady is poetically described to resemble in her gait.] இளம்பிள்ளை, s. A young child. இளம்பிள்ளைவாதம், s. A kind of rheumatism to which young persons are subject, a kind of pleurisy. இளம்புல், s. Tender grass newly shot forth, முதிராப்புல். 2. The அறுகு grass. இளவடி, s. Imperfect distillation, இளம்பதத்தில்வடிக்கை. இளவரசு, s. The prince regent who performs the functions of government when the king becomes disabled by age or otherwise, இராசகுமாரன். 2. The heir apparent, பட்டத்துக்குரியபிள்ளை. 3. A king in his minority, குழந்தைப்பருவமுடைய வரசு. (பாரதம்.) இளவல், s. A younger brother, தம் பி. 2. A lad, a youth, இளைஞன். இளவாடை, s. Gentle north wind. இளவாளிப்பு, v. noun. [prov.] Dampness, moisture. இளவுச்சம், s. [in astrology.] The situation of a planet a little before it reaches the meridian, உச்சத்திற்கணிமையா குகை. இளவுறை, s. Incipient or immature curds. இளவெந்நீர், s. Lukewarm water. இளவெயில், s. The early sunshine of the morning; also applied sometimes to the moderated rays of the evening, காலைவெயில். இளவெலும்பு, s. A tender, unhardened bone--as in children, முதிராவெலு ம்பு. இளவெழுத்து, s. An unformed hand-writing, the first writing of a child, படியாவெழுத்து. இளவேனில், s. The milder period of the hot season, including the months of April and May. See பருவகாலம். 6)

Grace, favor, தயவு. 5. Knowledge, wisdom, அறிவு. 6. Duty, tribute, பகுதி. 7. Nature, பண்பு. 8. (fig.) Beauty, அழகு. 9. The குங்குமம் flower. ஈரச்சீலைபோட்டுக்கழுத்த றுத்தாள். Having applied a wet cloth she cut my throat; i. e. she has behaved treacherously toward me. ஈரமிக்கசிந்தையண்ணல். (Dharma) the kindhearted sovereign. ஈரமில்லாநெஞ்சத்தார்க்கீந்தவுபகாரம். Favor bestowed on those whose heart is void of love. ஈரக்கல், s. A red stone, one of the one-hundred-and-twenty kinds of ore, குருந்தக்கல். ஈரங்கொல்லியர், s. Washermen, வண்ணார்; [ex கொல், killing; i. e. expelling moisture.] ஈரஞ்சுவற, inf. To be imbibed or absorbed--as water in the sand, or moisture in the head after bathing, &c., ஈரமுலர. ஈரநாவு, s. A slanderous tongue. ஈரநாவுக்கெலும்பில்லை. There is no bone in the tongue of a slanderer. ஈரந்துவட்டல், v. noun. Rubbing off moisture from the head and body after bathing. ஈரப்பசுமை--ஈரப்பசை, s. Moisture, dampness--as in lands, clothes, esculent roots, &c., நரம்புலராமை. ஈரப்பசையுள்ளவன், s. A benevolent man, இரக்கமுள்ளவன். 2. A prosperous man, செல்வமுடையோன். ஈரப்பலா, s. The bread-fruit tree, the wood of which is used for musical instruments, the ஆசினி, Artocarpus incisa, L. ஈரப்பற்று, s. Moisture, dampness, ஈரக்கசிவு. 2. Property, சம்பத்து. 3. Benevolence, நன்றி. ஈரமதி, s. The cool moon, குளிர்ந்த சந்திரன். (p.) ஈரவன், s. The moon, சந்திரன். (p.) ஈரவிதைப்பு, v. noun. Sowing when the land is wet, ஈரநிலத்தில்விதைக்கை. 2. uku (p. 59) கிறது, ந்தது, ம், உக, v. n. To be shaken off, to fall or drop off--as fruits, &c.; to shed feathers, hair; to become separated; to cast off as the nails, &c., உதிர. 2. To be strewed, scattered, poured out, &c., சிந்த. 3. To trickle or fall down--as rain or tears, சொரிய. 4. To be divested of, liberated from, கழல. (p.) நெஞ்சுகவாய்மலரன்னகண்ணீர்மல்க. The heart fainting and the lotus-flower like eyes shedding tears. மஞ்சுகவார்த்தன. The (bells) sounded so loud as to cause the clouds to fall. உள்ளமுடைந்துக்கக்கால். uṭai (p. 59) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To become broken--as a vessel; to crack, burst, break in pieces, split, to be fractured--as the skull, &c.; to break with force suddenly, to break or burst open--as a bank or shore; to break open--as a letter or seal, &c.; to be broken--as the skin; to be hurt--as by a wound, தகர. 2. To become broken--as the ranks of an army, to be discomfited, to retreat before the foe, இரிய. 3. To become broken--as the heart with grief, to be disheartened, dispirited, dejected, alienated, &c., to be in despair, மனம்நெகிழ. 4. To fall below in competition, rivalry or comparison, தாழ. 5. To be reduced in circumstances, to become poor, குறைய. 6. To effloresce, open, burst--as a flower, to blossom, மலர. 7. To become untwisted, முறுக்கவிழ. 8. Clothes, garments, vesture, dress, வஸ்திரம். உடைநடைபாவனை, s. The mode of dress, the gait, the manner, external appearance. உடையல், s. Any thing broken, a breach, a fracture. உடையல்நெரியல், s. Things cracked and broken. உடைவாள், s. A short scimiter, an accoutrement or article of equipage, சுரிகை. உடைவு, v. noun. A breach, disruption, eruption, infraction, crack, fracture, தகர்வு. 2. Being routed, a discomfiture, defeat, இரிவு. 3. Debility, brokenness of constitution, தளர்வு. 4. urm (p. 64) s. Strength, firmness, hardness, compactness, coarseness, aspiration, force of voice, expression, meaning, &c., வலி. 2. Energy, spirit, exertion, determination, resolution, fortitude, firmness of mind, ஊக்கம். 3. (p.) The breast, chest, மார்பு. 4. Wisdom, knowledge, spiritual knowledge, ஞானம். 5. Velocity, force, missile or projectile force, வேகம். 6. The solid part of timber, வயிரம். 7. Hardness, induration, obduracy, திண்மை. 8. A surrounding wall, மதில். கடலுரமாயிருக்கிறது. The sea is high, rough. காற்றுரமாயிருக்கிறது. The wind is high, boisterous. உரகடல்--உரசமுத்திரம், s. A boisterous sea, a sea generally rough. உரங்குத்த, inf. [prov.] To pound and harden the earth around trees newly set, பலமுறச்செய்ய. உரங்கொள்ள, inf. To thrive, grow strong--as the wind; to get strength, become boisterous--as the sea, பலங்கொள்ள. 2. To exert strength, &c., வலியுண்டாக. 3. To be hardened, indurated, obdurate, கடினமுற. உரங்கொண்டெறிந்து. Throwing with force. காய்ச்சலுரங்கொண்டுகாய்கின்றது. The fever rages and burns. உரஞ்செய்ய, inf. To fasten, make firm, உரப்பிக்க. உரம்விழ, inf. To get a particular ailment by rolling on the ground--applied only to a child not twelve months old. உராதரம், s. A woman's breast, முலை. உரேந்திரன், s. A hero, a soldier, வீரன். உரோருகம், s. A woman's breast, முலை; [ex உருகம், birth, origin.] கடலுரம், s. Roughness of the sea. உரக்க, inf. To become intense, grow strong, firm, hard, &c., to increase in strength, intenseness, loudness, &c., to rage, increase in violence, vehemence, heat, malignity, &c., பலமடைய. உரத்துப்படி. Read out. உரத்துப்பாடு. Sing loud; sing louder. காய்ச்சலுரத்துக்காய்கிறது. The fever rages intensely. உரக்கக்கூப்பிட, inf. To cry aloud. உரக்கப்பேச, inf. To speak loud. உரத்தகடல், s. A boisterous sea. உரத்தகடிதாசி, s. Thick, coarse paper. உரத்தகாய்ச்சல், s. A vehement fever. உரத்தகாற்று, s. A violent wind. உரத்தகுதிரை, s. A powerful horse. உரத்தசத்தம், s. A strong, harsh voice, a loud noise. உரத்தசரீரம், s. A firm constitution, a strong compact body. உரத்ததருக்கம், s. A sharp contest, a violent controversy. உரத்தநிலம், s. Firm soil. உரத்தவெயில், s. A hot sun. உரப்பிக்க, inf. To make firm, to harden, indurate, confirm. உரப்பு, v. noun. intenseness, force, strength, firmness, compactness, வலி. 2. Coarseness, thickness, roughness--as of cloth, paper, leaves, &c.; stiffness, hardness--as of rice not well boiled, or of the stomach when overcharged, or when food does not digest, திண்மை. உரப்பானநிலம், s. urukku (p. 65) கிறேன், உருக்கினேன், வே ன், உருக்க, v. a. To melt with heat--as metals, or other congealed substances, to dissolve, liquify, fuse, run, தீயிற்கரைக்க. 2. To reduce one as a disease, to emaciate, வாட்ட. 3. To afflict, distress, வருத்த. (சத. 21.) இன்சொல்லிறைநெஞ்சுருக்கினான். By sweet speech, he melted the heart of the divinity. (சிவசிவ.) வியாதிசரீரத்தையுருக்கிப்போட்டது. The disease has emaciated him. எத்தனையுருக்கிலேயுருக்கினான்? How many times did it take to melt it? நன்னாளிற்பொன்னுருக்கு. Melt gold on an auspicious day. உருக்கிச்சாய்க்க, inf. To cast or run metals in bars, in mass, &c. for further use. உருக்கிவார்க்க, inf. To cast, found, to run metals. உருக்குகாரம், s. Borax, வெண் காரம். உருக்குப்பிரமியம், s. Gonorrh&ae;a with a discharge of blood, இரத்தப்பிர மியம். உருக்குமணி, s. Solid globules of gold soldered together around a ring and worn by women as an ear-pendent, ஓராபரணம். எலும்புருக்கி, s. An emaciating disease, ஓர்வியாதி. உருக்கு, v. noun. Fusion, melting, liquifaction, உருக்குகை. உருக்கன், s. [prov.] An emaciating or stinting disease--as of men or plantains, &c., ஓர்நோய். உருக்கனடித்தல், v. noun. Stinting or blighting--as disease especially in plantains. உருக்கினம், s. A kind of arsenic, அஞ்சனபாஷாணம். 2. Any thing that facilitates the fusion of metals--as borax. புத்துருக்குநெய், s. uruvu (p. 65) கிறேன், உருவினேன், வேன், உருவ, v. a. To unsheath, draw out of a case or sheath, வாள்முதலியவற்றையுருவ. 2. To draw between the finger and the thumb--as a hair, thread, straw, &c., to free it from oil, moisture, &c.; or a necklace, to remove the beads; or a tamarind twig, to remove the leaves, &c., தழைமுதலிய வுருவ. 3. To draw the hand with pressure down a limb, or any part of the body, to allay pain, inflammation, &c., also down a pole, or other cylindrical body, சுளுக்குமுதலி யவற்றிற்குஉருவ. 4. To loosen or tighten a noose, கயிற்றையுருவ. 5. To pierce through, penetrate, pass through, enter, or transfix, --as an arrow, a needle, &c., ஊடுருவ. உருவினவாளுடனேவந்தான். He came with a drawn sword. நெஞ்சிலம்புபட்டுருவிற்று. The arrow reached the heart and pierced it. மெல்லெனப்பாயுந்தண்ணீர்கல்லையுமுருவப்பாயும். Strip off the potherbs or greens. ஆற்றையுருவநடக்க. To ford, or wade through a river. உருவக்குத்த, inf. To stab, pierce, transpierce, transfix. உருவத்துளைக்க, inf. To bore through, or into, as with an instrument, or as beetles and other insects. உருவத்தைக்க, inf. To stitch through. 2. To nail through, transfix. 3. To pierce, or pass through--as a thorn, a weapon, a nail, &c.; ex. ஆணியுரு வத்தைத்தது, the nail is gone through. உருவுண்டுபோக, inf. To slip off-as beads from a string, to become loose, or to slip through, or become tight as a noose. உருவுதடம், s. [prov.] A noose, சுருக்கு. உருவொளி, s. Transparency, translucency. 41)

uvṭṭu (p. 66) கிறேன், உவட்டினேன், வேன், உவட்ட, v. n. To nauseate, loathe, வெறுக்க. 2. To overflow, pour forth--as a water-fall, fountain, &c., to flow--as the head of the tide, பிரவாகிக்க. 3. To rise-as the surf, பெருக்கெடுக்க. உவட்டியுந்திடுதிரைப்புனல். The overflowing rushing wave. (ஸ்காந்.) நெஞ்சையுவட்ட, inf. To feel nausca, to loathe, to be sea-sick. உவட்டு, v. noun. eri (p. 73) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், எரிய, v. n. To glow, shine, give light, பிரகாசிக்க. 2. To burn, ignite; to be injured, or consumed by fire, to be scorched, to flame, அழல. 3. To burn--as a sore, or fever; to smart, to be inflamed, புண்முதலியவெரிய. 4. To be envious, jealous, to fret, be peevish, பொறா மைகொள்ள. 6. To burn as the stomach with hunger, வயிறெரிய. 7. To suffer pain --as from a heavy load on the head, &c., தலைமுதலியனவெரிய. (c.) அடுப்பெரிகிறது. The fire upon the hearth burns. மந்தமெரிந்துபோனது. The indigestion has ceased, lit. is burnt up. நட்சத்திரமெரிந்துவிழுகின்றது. A star glows and falls. நான்தின்றதெல்லாமெரிந்துபோயிற்று. The food I took has digested. 2. An enraged or furious demoness, எரிதுர்க்கை. 2. A peevish, or fretful person-spoken disparagingly, எரிச்சலுடையவள். எரிபுழு, s. A kind of brownish, yellow caterpillar, the sight of which on leaving home, &c., is regarded as propitious, கம்பளப்பூச்சியினோர்வகை. எரிபூச்சி, s. A flying insect which, on contact, emits moisture that causes a burning smart and a discoloring of the skin, ஓர்பூச்சி. எரிமணி, s. Sparkling jewels, bright gems, பிரகாசமுள்ளமணி. எரிமுகி, s. A tree, the milk of whose seeds is pungent and caustic, and being indelible, is used in marking, சேங் கொட்டைமரம், Semicarpus anacardium. எரியவிழிக்க, inf. To look fiercely having the eyes flaming with rage, கோ பத்தோடுபார்க்க. எரிவண்டு, s. The Mylabris or blistering beetle, ஓர்வகைவண்டு. 2. An insect which strikes against the eye-ball inducing severe smarting, கண்ணிலடிக்கும் வண்டு. எரிவந்தம், s. A burning sensation in the body, எரிபந்தம். 2. (Met.) Anger, wrath, எரிச்சல். எரிவனம், s. A burning place for the dead, சுடுகாடு. எரிவரியன், s. A snake of the viper kind. பற்றியெரிய, inf. To take fire. எரிப்பு, v. noun. Burning, ignition, எரிவு. 2. s. Envy, jealousy, peevishness, malice, rancor, பொறாமை. 3. Satiety, nausea, நெஞ்செரிப்பு. எரிப்புக்காரன்--எரிப்புள்ளவன், s. An envious, impatient, peevish, or irritable person, பொறாமையுடையவன். எரிப்பெடுக்க, inf. To be peevish, cynical, querulous, எரிப்புண்டாக. ஓரெரிப்பாயெரிக்க, inf. To keep a fire burning, to heat continually--as in preparing medicines. ஓரெரிப்பாயெரித்துப்போட்டான்... He consumed it at one burning. 2. He has utterly destroyed (the family, town, &c., by injustice, oppression, &c.). எரியல், v. noun. Burning, எரிவு. 2.
