அஃகு
aḥku (p. 1) pres. கிறேன், past அஃகி னேன், fut. வேன், inf. அஃக, v. n. To diminish, shrink; be shortened as a vowel; be reduced, as wealth, &c. குறைய. 2. To become closed or compressed, as a flower, umbrella, &c. சுருங்க. 3. To be acute, refined, as knowledge, நுண்மையாக. (p.) அஃகியதனிநிலை, s. The letter ஃ shortened. அஃகியவறிவு, s. Penetration, acumen, discrimination. 7)

akkkṭvuḷ (p. 1) s. God, as inhabiting the soul, உயிர்க்குள்ளிறைவன். 2. The soul as God, the divinity within, ஆன்மா. --Note. Other derivatives from அகம் will be found under that word. 13)

akngkri (p. 1) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be proud, haughty, arrogant, self-conceited, இறுமாக்க. 14)
அகங்காரம்
akngkārm (p. 1) s. Pride, self-consequence, கருவம். 2. One of the four intellectual powers, the energy which excites to action, அந்தக்கரணங்களிலொன்று. (See இந்தி ரியம்.) 3. Self-consciousness, individuality, regarding one's self as performing actions instead of the deity as operating within, நானெனுஞ்செருக்கு. 4. (p.) An operating cause of transmigration, பிறவிக்குமூலம்; ex அகம் myself, et காரம் that which acts. அகங்காரகிரந்தி--அகங்காரக்கிரந்தி, s. The bond of the three evil principles, மும்மலம், which bind the soul from eternity, and subject it to births. (p.) அகங்காரத்திரயம், s. The three அ கங்காரம், viz. முக்கியவகங்காரம், முக்கியாமுக்கி யவகங்காரம், and அமுக்கியவகங்காரம். (p.) அகங்காரி, s. A proud person. 16)

akaciyam (p. 1) s. Mimicry, ridicule, making sport. See ஆசியம். (c.) அகசியகாரன், s. One who makes sport. 2. A king's jester. 18) *

akccuṭṭu (p. 1) s. The demonstrative prefixes, அ, இ and உ, when they form part of the word with which they are connected; as, அவன், இவன், உவன்; ex அகம், interior, et சுட்டு. 20) *

akaṭam (p. 1) s. [priv. அ et கடம், justice.] Injustice, அநீதி. 2. A wile, trick, விகடம். (c.) அகடவிகடம், s. Chicanery, stratagem, treachery, circumlocution, தட்டு மாற்று. *அகடன், s. An unjust, deceitful, treacherous man. 21) *
அகணிதம்
akaṇitam (p. 1) s. [priv. அ et கணிதம்.] Innumerable quantity, கணக்கின்மை. 2. Mental calculation, counting differently from the usual mode, மனக்கணிதம்; (p.)-Note. The words beginning with அ and having a negative sense are generally formed in the same manner. அகணித பஞ்சாங்கம், s. An almanac made by mental calculation. 26) *
அகண்டம்
akaṇṭam (p. 1) s. [priv. அ et கண்டம்.] That which is without parts, entireness. அபின்னம். Wils. p. 5. AKHANDA. (p.) அகண்டமாய், adv. Entirely, wholly. அகண்டன், s. The undivided One, the Deity; also used for Siva, Vishnu and Argha. (p.) அகண்டாகண்டன், The Supreme Being. (p.) அகண்டாகாரம், s. Windness, expanse, boundlessness. (p.) அகண்டாகாரஞானம், s. Perfect wisdom. (p.) அகண்டாகார விருத்தி, s. Boundless desire, spiritual aspirations. (p.) 27)

akati (p. 1) s. [priv. அ et கதி.] A destitute person, வறியவன். 31)
அகத்தியன்
akattiyaṉ (p. 2) --அகஸ்தியன், s. A poet and sage celebrated in the Ramayanam, Skandam and other works of antiquity. He is regarded as the former of the Tamil language which he is said to have learned of Skanda the son of Siva. He is also the reputed author of several works, still extant, in whole or in part, in the Tamil language; such as, a Grammar, Materia Medica, a work on Astrology, Astronomy, and several essays on the unity of the divine being, as opposed to the popular system of polytheism, &c. He is regarded as the son of both Mythra and Varuna by Urvasi; is represented to be of very short stature, and to have been born in a water jar. He is famed for having compressed and swallowed the ocean, for the sake of the celestials. Other wonderful stories are also told of him, and received with undoubted credence. He is considered as the regent of the star Canopus, குறுமுனி. Wils. p. 5. AGASTYA. அகத்தியர்குழம்பு, s. A famous compound cathartic. See குழம்பு. 6)
