அக்கினி
akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. AGNI. அக்கினிகணம், s. The same as தீக்கணம், an inauspicious measure. See கணம். (p.) அக்கினிகர்ப்பம், s. A spark. 2. A crystal with fabulous qualities. 3. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread on fire, one of the thirty-two kinds of selftorture. அக்கினிமூலை, s. The south-east region. அக்கினியாதேயம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம், sacrifices. அக்கினியாஸ்திரம், s. A kind of arrow, ஓரத்திரம், (c.) அக்கினியோகம், s. An inauspicious conjunction of the days of the week with the tithi திதி, as follows: 1. When the 5th or 11th tithi, Lunar day (திதி) occurs on Monday. 2. When the 5th tithi occurs on Wednesday. 3. When the 6th or 9th occurs on Thursday. 4. When the 8th or 1th occurs on Friday. 5. When the 9th or 11th occurs on Saturday. 6. When the 12th occurs on Sunday. 18) *

The sky, the visible heavens, வானுலகம். 6. Ether, one of the five elements. See பூதம். அண்டகடாகம்--அண்டகோளம், s. The shell supposed to surround the earth and its attendant spheres. அண்டகோசம், s. The egg-shaped universe, முட்டை வடிவான அண்டம். 2. An astronomical treatise, ஓர்நூல். அண்டச்சுவர், s. Wall or shell of the mundane egg, அண்டபித்திகை. அண்டபகிரண்டம்--அண்டரண்ட பகிரண்டம், s. This world and the worlds beyond the mundane sphere; ex பஹி-பஹிஸ், outside. அண்டபிண்டம், s. The universe and the body; the latter is said to contain in embryo, or miniature, every thing found in the former. அண்டத்திலுள்ளதுபிண்டத்தில் உண்டு. What is in the world is also in the human body. அண்டமுகடு, s. The highest part or top of the imaginary shell that surrounds the solar system. அண்டயோனி, s. The sun, சூரி யன்; ex யோனி, the place of birth. அண்டரண்டம், s. The world of the gods; ex அண்டர், gods. அண்டர், s. The celestials or inhabitants of the supernal world, the gods, வானோர். 2. Foes, opponents, enemies, பகைவர். 3. Herdsmen, cowherds, shepherds, இடையர். (p.) அண்டவாணர், s. The gods, celestials. அண்டவாதம்--அண்டவாயு, s. Rupture, scrotal hernia, ஓர்நோய். பிரமாண்டம், s. Pecuniary aid, பொருளுதவி. அத்தசாமம்--அத்தராத்திரி, s. Midnight. Wils. p. 71. ARDD'HARATRA. அத்தசாமப்பூசை, s. Pooja performed at midnight. See பூசை. அத்தநாரீசுரன், s. Siva, he who is half woman. Wils. p. 71. ARDD'HANARISHA. அத்தமண்டபம், s. The court in a temple next to the sacred shrine. See கருப்பகிரகமண்டபம். அத்தாதுரம், s. Desire for wealth, covetousness, பொருளாசை. அத்தோதயம்--அர்த்தோதயம், s. The rising of the sun and moon, in conjunction, at the beginning of which, the sun is in Capricorn on a Sunday in the month of January, and the moon in the 22d asterism, and the 17th யோகம்; deemed a most auspicious moment for religious bathing, alms-giving and other duties. These five things do not occur together oftener than once in sixty years. An important circumstance is the half rising of the sun, with which are connected the four other things abovementioned, ஓர்விசேடநாள். அத்தோதயஸ்நானம், s. The time between any given points. [அந்தரம். 2.] அந்தரகாமி, s. A horse which goes above the earth, through the air, ஆகாய மார்க்கமாய்ச்செல்லும்பரி. [அந்தரம். 4.] அந்தரசைவம், s. One of the divisions of the Saiva religion, ஓர்சைவம். அந்தரச்சிந்து, s. One of the thirtytwo kinds of arsenic in its natural state, கற்பாஷாணம். அந்தரதிசை, s. A nine-fold subdivision of the period of a planet's influence on a person's life, கிரகநிலை. [அந் தரம். 2.] அந்தரத்தாமரை, s. A species of lotus whose roots float in the water, not adhering to the soil, ஆகாயத்தாமரை. [அந்தரம். 4.] அந்தரத்திலேநிற்க, inf. To be forsaken by all, be abandoned. [அந்தரம். 1.] என்னையந்தரத்திலேவிட்டான். He has forsaken me. அந்தரபவனி, s. Motion through the air, ஆகாயகமனம். 2. (fig.) Very great swiftness, மிகுவேகம். 3. [prov.] Any thing that goes swiftly, வேகமாய்ச்செல் லுவது. [அந்தரம். 4.] அந்தரப்பிசாசுகள், s. The evil spirits of the air. [அந்தரம். 4.] அந்தரமத்திமபுத்தி, s. Difference between the mean and true daily motion of the sun, or of a planet. [அந் தரம். 4.] அந்தரவல்லி, s. A medicinal creeper, கொல்லன்கோவை. [அந்தரம். 4.] அந்தரவனம், s. An uninhabited desert land. [அந்தரம், 1.] அந்தரவாசம், v. noun. Dwelling in the air, ஆகாயத்தில்வசிக்கை. 2. (s.) A medicinal shrub, ஓர்மருந்துப்பூடு. [அந்தரம். 4.] அந்தரவாயு, s. Hydrocele, வீம பீசம், [அந்தரம் 2.] அந்தரவீச்சு, v. noun. Beating the air. அந்தரவீச்சுக்காரன், s. One who beats the air, a cheat, a fraudulent man. [அந்தரம். 4.] அந்தராயம், s.
