The chief elephant of a king, necessary to his royal state; and which, if there be no heir to the throne, is said to select one to be king, by divine guidance, when blind-folded. பட்டத்திலிருத்தல்--பட்டத்துக்கிருத் தல்--பட்டமாளுதல், v. noun. Reigning. பட்டத்துக்குமாரத்தி, s. The king's eldest daughter. பட்டத்துக்குமாரன்--பட்டபஸ்திரிபிள் ளை, s. The heir apparent, being a son. பட்டத்துத்துரை--பட்டத்துரை, s. The heir to the throne, or to some high dignity. பட்டந்தரித்தல்--பட்டம்பெறுதல், v. noun. Taking or obtaining a title, or dignity. 2. Investing with authority, installing, ordaining, crowning. பட்டந்தீர்தல், v. noun. [also பட்டைதீ ர்தல்.] Cutting a gem, &c., forming the faces, or sides, and polishing it. பட்டப்பிரபு, s. A nobleman of title, or dignity. பட்டப்பெயர், s. Title or name of dignity. 2. [in burlesque.] A nick-name. பட்டமணி, s. Gold beads, forming a necklace. பட்டம்பிடிக்க, inf. To fasten metal clasps in the corners of a box. பட்டவஸ்திரம், s. A robe of state. பட்டவர்த்தனம், s. A large mark on the forehead used by smartas and others. பட்டவர்த்தனர், s. Persons of royal birth, அரசர்குலத்தோர். 2. Tributary or inferior princes, who wear a plate on the forehead as distinguished from மகு டவர்த்தனர். 3. smartas and those who wear a large mark on their foreheads. பட்டவிருத்தி, s. Exemption from tribute. பட்டவிளக்கு, s. A lamp with flat sides, பட்டைதீர்ந்தவிளக்கு. பட்டாபிஷேகம்--பட்டாபிடேகம், s.
