cīvaṉ (p. 191) s. Life, vitality, the vital principle, உயிர். 2. The sentient soul; according to the Vedantic system, the emanation of the deity incorporated with the body, giving it life, motion and sensation; hence also called, சீவாத்துமா. It is opposed to the abstract state of the soul, or as identified with deity, பரமாத்துமா.--Note. According to the Agamas, the soul is eternal, but destined to obsorption in the deity, which is the ultimate object in view in furnishing it with bodies, and with various means for its illumination. 3. A living being, an animal, சீவசெந்து. 4. A name of Jupiter, வியாழம். 5. A magnet, காந்தம். (R.) 6. (fig.) Energy, spirit, life, animation, முயற்சி--used in the negative form. W. p. 351. To save one from ruin, by giving the means of subsistence. 5. To inspire one with courage, தைரியப்ப டுத்த. சீவனைமாய்த்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To commit suicide, to lay violent hands on one's self. சீவனைவாங்க, inf. To take away life. 2. (fig.) To put one to great hardships. சீவனோடிருக்க, inf. To be alive, to live. சீவனோடுகூடியகாரியம், s. [prov.] (in divination.) A question, or matter connected with life, or with a living being. 2. A thing of vital importance. கிழட்டுச்சீவன்--கிழச்சீவன், s. An old person, man or woman. சீவன்முத்தன், s. (in Agama phil.) The soul freed from பாசம் before the death of the body, and no longer subject to births. (சிவ. போ.) 31)

tṟ (p. 230) . A particle for தன்; the ன் is changed as தற். Sa. தற்காக்க, inf. To preserve, to protect, chiefly as the deity or other superior. இரட்சிக்க. 2. To take care of one's self, to be cautious of dangers, to maintain fidelity to a husband, தன்னைக்காக்க. தற்காவல், s. Self-protection, selfcaution. தற்கிழமை, s. [in gram.] The thing possessed, or closely connected with the possession--oppos. to பிறிதின்கிழமை See கிழமை. தற்குணம், s. Peculiar nature or quality. தற்குறி--தற்குறிப்பு, s. One of the thirtyfive rhetorical figures, a fanciful kind of metaphor--as the trees, flourishing after a rain, extend, as it were, their arms to return fruits to the clouds. ஓரலங்காரம். தற்குறைவு, s. Deficiency in a stock or quantity without any apparent cause. தற்கொலை, s. Suicide. (c.) தற்சாட்சி, s. Self-evidence, மனச்சாட் சி. 2. The universal soul. or deity inspiriing all creatures, பரமாத்துமா. தற்சிவம், s. Absolute deity, the selfexistent, ஈச்சுரன். தற்சினேகம், s. Self-love, தன்னைநேசிக் கும்நேசம். தற்சொரூபங்காட்ட, inf. To exhibit himself in his true nature as the deity; i. e. not in human or other form. 2. To display one's power, capacity, true characteristics, சுயதன்மைகாட்ட. தற்சொரூபம், s. One's own peculiar nature or form of existence, சுயரூபம்; used chiefly of the deity. தற்சுட்டு, s. self-reference, தன்னைச் சுட்டுகை. தற்சுந்தரம், s. Self-possession, inherent attribute as peculiar to the deity. தற்சுதந்தரஅறிவு, s. Intuitive knowledge. தற்செயல், s. Providential, without any apparent cause, contingent, தெய்வச் செயல். 2. An accident. (c.) தற்செய்ய, v. n. inf. [prov.] To produce its own natural effects, to prosper by providence, இயல. 2. To be advantageous, favorable, profitable, to issue successfully, பலிக்க. வியாபாரம்அவனுக்குத்தற்செய்யவில்லை. Trade does not prosper with him. தற்செல்வம், s. Strength, power, force, வலி. (சது.) 2. One's own property. தற்பாடி, appel. n. A lark, வானம் பாடி. (R.) தற்புகழ்ச்சி, s. Self-praise, self-applause, self-complacency. தற்புணர்ச்சி, v. noun. Self-pollution, onanism, சுயபுணர்ச்சி. தற்பொழிவு, v. noun. Self-interest. தற்போதம், s. Self-knowledge, knowledge of the soul and deity, தன்னையுங் கடவுளையும் அறியுமறிவு. 2. Intuitive knowledge, inherent and eternal knowledge as possessed by the deity. தன்னறிவு.

[in modern usage.] Atmosphere, ஆகா யம்.--The atomic bases of the five elements, called பஞ்சபூதஅணு, are பிருதுவிப் பரமாணு, atomic base of earth, being water; 2. அப்புப்பரமாணு, of water, being fire; 3. தேயுப்பரமாணு, atomic base of fire, being air; 4. வாயுப்பரமாணு, of air or wind. being ether; 5. ஆகாயப்பரமாணு, of ether being maya. பரமாத்துமம்--பரமாத்துமா, s. The soul of the universe. 2. The Deity or universal soul, as contrasted with சீவாத் துமா, the human soul. பரமாத்துமன், s. God as the soul of the world, கடவுள். 2. (fig.)
