kuṭai (p. 117) s. Umbrella, parasol; canopy --as one of the twenty-one symbols of royalty and victory, ஆதபத்திரம். 2. The knob of a sandal, பாதகுறட்டின்குமிழ். 3. A tree with very large thorns, the குடைவேல், Mimosa, L. 4. The dance of Skanda, குமரனாடல். குடைகவிக்க--குடைபிடிக்க, inf. To bear an umbrella. குடைக்காம்பு, s. See under காம்பு. குடைக்காரன், s. An umbrella-bearer. குடைநிழற்ற, inf. To afford shade--as an umbrella. குடைக்காளான், s. A kind of mushroom, ஓர்காளான். குடைக்கொள்ள, inf. [prov.] To rise in a body--as milk over the fire, as some cakes in frying, &c. 2. To rise or be puffed up--as a cloth, &c. 3. To capsize, to be upset--as a cart. குடைச்செவி, s. Ears pricked up and bent forward--as those of an elephant, tiger, horse, &c., in attack, surprise, or rage, குடைக்காது. குடைப்பனை, s. Talipot Fan-palm, தாலபத்திரப்பனை, Corypha umberaculifera, L. குடையாணி, s. A pin or nail with a round head--as distinguished from சடையாணி. வெண்கொற்றக்குடை, s. The white canopy of royalty--as a symbol of victory. 14)
குறடு
kuṟṭu (p. 132) s. Pincers, tongs, forceps, &c., கம்மியர் குறடு. 2. A small block or clump of wood, மரத்துண்டு. 3. A raised floor or verandah, திண்ணை. 4. The edge of a verandah floor, திண்ணைக்குறடு. 5. (சது.) Plank, board, பலகை. 6. A hook for hanging up school-boys' books, புத்தகத்தூக்குக்கயிற்றுக்குறடு. 7. A crab, நண்டு. (M. Dic.) 8. The jutting out or cornice on a wall or column, புடைப்பு. (Rott.); [ex குறு. short or small.] குறட்டாலிடுக்க, inf. To grasp or take up with a pair of pincers. குறடுகாய்ச்சிப்பிடுங்க--குறடுவைத்துப் பிடுங்க, inf. To pinch any one with redhot pincers. சிறுகுறடு, s. A gold-smith's pincers. குறட்டுப்பாக்குவெட்டி, s. Betel-nutcrackers with a forked mouth. குறடுகட்ட, inf. To make the edges of the raised floor of the verandah. திண்ணைக்குறடு, s. A lower part of a verandah to sit on. சந்தனக்குறடு, s. blocks of sandal wood. பாதகுறடு, s. Wooden sandals. 2. Shoes, slippers. குறட்டுச்செருப்பு, s. [prov.] A kind of shoe or sandal, with a loop to admit the great toe. குறட்டுவாதம், s. A kind of spasm, ஓர்வலிப்பு. See குறண்டல்வாதம். 6)
கொட்டை
koṭṭai (p. 146) s. Seeds of any kind, not enclosed in chaff or husk; a nut, வித்து. 2. The stone, kernel or seed of a fruit, பழத்தின்கொட்டை. 3. Testicles, பீசம். 4. Rolls of cotton or flax prepared for spinning, பஞ்சுக்கொட்டை. 5. A plug or tent of cloth to widen the hole in the ear for jewels, திரி. 6. A kind of female ear ornament, ஓர்காதணி. 7. The knob of a wooden sandal, பாதகுறட்டின்குமிழ். 8. A pad for the head in carrying a load, சும்மாடு. 9. A bolster, a pillow; a cushion, தலையணை. 1. The pericarp of the lotus flower, with which the female body is compared for softness, தாமரைக்கொட்டை. 11. [prov.] The fruit buds of the jack tree, பலாப்பிஞ்சு. கொட்டைகட்ட, inf. To gamble with இருப்பை seeds, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. கொட்டைக்காய், s. A seedy or stony fruit; any fruit the stones or seeds of which are large, or numerous, in proportion to the pulp. கொட்டைக்கச்சி--கொட்டைக்கையில், s. [prov. vul.] The half of a cocoanut shell. See கொட்டங்கைச்சி. கொட்டைக்குவிட, inf. To let a plant go to seed. கொட்டைச்செத்தல்--கொட்டைத்தேங் காய், s. [prov.] A dry cocoanut in which the kernel rattles, கொப்பரைத்தேங்காய். கொட்டைநூற்க, inf. To spin cotton, flax, &c. கப்பலோடிப்பட்டகடன் கொட்டைநூற்றுத்தீரு மோ. Will the debt contracted by a ship merchant be paid by spinning cotton? கொட்டைபுதைக்க--கொட்டைதாழ்க்க, inf. To plant fruit stones. கொட்டைப்பாக்கு, s. An entire arekanut dried without boiling. கொட்டைப்புளி, s. Pulp of tamarind fruit with the stones. கொட்டைப்போட, inf. To place seeds in garden beds, or to bury palmyra stones in the ground to grow. 2. To form the fruit buds--as the jack tree. 3. [vul. local.] To die, சாக. கொட்டைப்பெட்டி, s. A kind of basket for betel-nut, &c. 2. A basket for rolled cotton prepared for spinning. கொட்டைமுதல், s. [prov.] Capital in ready money, கைமுதல். கொட்டைமுத்து, s. The seeds or kernel of ஆமணக்கு. கொட்டைமுந்திரிகை, s. The cashewnut tree, முந்திரிகைமரம், Anacardium, L. கொட்டையிட, inf. To make rolls of cotton. கொட்டைக்கரந்தை, s. A knob by which the sandals are kept on. பாதக்காப்பு, s. Slippers, clogs, Indian shoes, செருப்பு. பாதசரம், s. A kind of foot ornament, for females. (c.) பாதசன், s. A man of the fourth or Sudra tribe, as born from the feet of Brahma, நான்காம்வருணத்தான்; [ex. சன், one born.] பாதசாகை, s. A toe, கால்விரல். பாதசாபலியம், s. As பாததாடனம். பாதசாரம், s. Dust of the feet, commonly of a great person. பாதத்திலேவிழ, inf. As பாதம்பணிய. பாதபங்கயம்--பாதபதுமம்--பாதபத் மம்--பாதபற்மம், s. Lotus-feet of a holy, or great personage. பாதபரிசம், s. Touching a superior's foot, திருவடிதீண்டுகை. 2. A kind of arsenic, சீதாங்கபாஷாணம். பாதபீடம்--பாதபீடிகை, s. footstool, as பாதாசனம். பாதபூசை, s. Worshipping with flowers, the feet of a Guru or other sacred person, as one of the rites of hospitality. பாதப்பிரகாரம், s. As பாததாடனம். பாதப்பிரட்சாளனம், s. Washing the feet, கால்கழுவுகை. See பிரட்சாளனம். பாதமயக்கு, s. verse capable of transposition; as அடிமயக்கு. (p.) பாதமுத்தி, s. Kissing the feet of a great person. 2. As சாயுச்சியம். பாதமுத்திரை, s. Sandals, &c., in which there is the print of a Guru's or other sacred person's foot; left with a disciple, in token of protection; and to be worshipped. பாதமூலம், s. The ball of the foot, குதிக்கால். W. p. 525. PADAMOOLA. பாதம்பணிய, inf. To prostrate at one's feet. பாதம்பாலிக்க, inf. To set the foot on the head of a prostrate worshipper, and bless him. பாதரட்சணம்--பாதரட்சை--பாதரக்ஷை, s. Shoes, slippers, clogs, or sandals, (lit.) defence, or safe guard for the feet,தொடு தோல். பாதவந்தனம், s. Homage, reverence, worship, at the feet of a great person. பாதாக்கிரம், s. The tip of the foot, end of the great toe, கானுனி; [ex அக்கிரம், point.] பாதாக்கிராந்தன், s. [pl. பாதாக்கிராந் தர்கள்.] A worshipper at the feet; an expectant, அடிவணங்குவோன். பாதாங்குட்டம், s. The great toe, காற் பெருவிரல்; [ex அங்குஷ்டம்.] பாதாசனம், s. Footstool, பாதபீடிகை. 2. Sandals, பாதகுறடு. பாதாதிகேசம். From foot to head. 2. s. A poem as கேசாதிபாதம்.
