(சது.) A pond, a tank, கு ளம்; [ex சலம், water, et தரம், what holds or contains.] சலதாரை, s. A passage for water, an aqueduct, a channel, a conduit, நீர்க்கால். (c.) 2. Urinary passage, urethra, சிறுநீர்த் தாரை. 3. A stream or jet of water, நீரோட்டம். See தாரை. சலதி--சலநிதி--சலபதி, s. Sea, ocean, கடல்; [ex Sa. தி, what holds; ex நிதி, receptacle; ex பதி, lord.] சலதோஷம், s. Disease arising from the influence of the cold humors in the body, சலுப்பு. 2. (c.) Cold, catarrh, தடிமல். See தோஷம். சலதோஷங்காண, inf. to catch cold. சலஸ்தம்பம்--சலத்தம்பனம், s. Stopping the power, or counteracting the natural properties of water, by enchantment. See தம்பனம். சலஸ்தம்பவாதம், s. Dysury, a disease, ஓர்நோய். சலஸ்தானம், s. A pond, a lake, ஏரி. சலத்துவாரம், s. The urinary passage, urethra, சிறுநீர்த்தாரை. 2. A drain, a conduit, சலதாரை. See துவாரம். சலந்திரட்ட, inf. To freeze water into ice by the touch--ascribed to holy men and to virgins or chaste women of former times. (R.); [ex திரட்டு, consolidate.] சலபயம், s. Danger of inundation, of drowning, &c. Water for drinking; [ex பானம்.] சலபானம்பண்ண, inf. To drink water. சலபுட்பம், s. Fish, (lit.) the water flower; an expression used by those who do not eat fish, மீன். சலப்பிரவாகம்--சலப்பிரளயம், s. A flood of water, a deluge, inundation. சலப்பை, s. The urinary bladder; [ex பை, bag.] சலமலம், s. Urine and excrement. (c.) 2. (R.) The sponge, நீர்ப்பஞ்சு. சலமறிப்பு--சலவடைப்பு, v. noun. Stoppage of urine. சலமொட்ட, inf. To be firmly resolved on revenging an injury. (p.) சலம்பிடிக்க, inf. To collect--as matter in a boil, சீல்கொள்ள. 2. (R.) To affirm or deny obstinately, பிடிவாதஞ்செய்ய. சலம்பிதுக்க, inf. [prov.] To squeeze out the pus or matter from a boil. (c.) சலமிறங்க, inf. To pass--as urine. 2. To flow off-as the superfluous humors by the urethra. சலம்புரி, s. Chank, சங்கு. (M. Dic.) சலம்விட, inf. To pass or void urine. சலராகம், s. Reddish color, pale red; [ex இராகம், red color.] சலராசி, s. The sea, ocean, a collection of water, கடல்; [ex இராசி, collection.] சலரோகம், s. Diabetes, நீரழிவு. சலவர், s. Inhabitants of maritime districts, (lit.) the water-people, or sea fairing men. Compare பஃறியர், திமிலர், கடலர், &c. சலவாதி, s. An angry person, தணியாக் கோபமுள்ளவன். 2. An obstinate, pertinacious person, குரோதமுடையோன். (p.) 3. [ex சலம் for சஞ்சலம், grief, et வாதி, declarer.] A person of the servile tribe employed to announce one's death to the relations, friends, &c., மரணசெய்தி சொல்வோன். 4. See சலபாதை. (c.) சலவாழைக்காய், s. Fish, (lit.) the water-plantain. See சலபுட்பம். சலாசயம், s. [in phys.] One of the five ஆசயம் of the body, the receptacle of the urine, the bladder. See பஞ்சாசயம். சலாதாரம், s. cārāyam (p. 178) s. Spirituous liquors, arrack, வெறிகொள்ளுமோர்பானம்; [ex Sa. Kshara or Sara.] (c.) சாராயங்கொடுத்துப் பூராயமறி. Give a person a draught of arrack, and you can elicit the hidden emotions of his heart. சாராயக்காரன், s. An arrack-seller. சாராயக்கடை, s. An arrack-shop. சாராயக்குத்தகை, s. Arrack-rent. சாராயப்பாவாலை, s. [loc.] A vessel for receiving distilled spirits, வடிபானை. சாராயவெறி, s. Intoxication, inebriation, &c., by drinking arrack. சாராயக்கிடங்கு, s. [prov.] An arrack tavern. See கிடங்கு. (c.) சாராயங்கட்ட--சாராயங்காய்ச்ச, inf. To distil arrack. அரிசிச்சாராயம், s. Arrack from rice and jaggery. கள்ளுச்சாராயம், s. cūtakam (p. 200) s. Birth, delivery, பிறப்பு. 2. (c.) Uncleanness, ceremonial impurity of a woman from catamenia, மகளீர்தொடக்கு. W. p. 94. SOOTAKA. 3. Ceremonial impurity of a person from the death of a relative, rendering him incompetent to perform certain rites; that from the father's side being greater, the mother's less, மரணசூதகம். 4. Ceremonial uncleanness in general, as of a person, house, clothes, &c., from a death, from menstruation, childbirth, miscarriage, touching a corpse or carcass; from shaving; contact of the finger, &c., with the spittle or any part of the mouth; touching one of low caste, or bathing in a tank of his village; or weeping, lamenting, &c., for a deceased acquaintance, தீட்டு. 5. Oldness, antiquity, பழமை.--Note. According to some, the causes of ceremonial impurity are five, viz.: 1. சனனாசூசம், or சாதகாசூசம், childbirth. 2. மரணாசூசம், or மிருதாசூசம், death. 3. சண்டாளநீரிற்றோய்தல், bathing in the waters used by low castes. 4. சுராபானம்பண்ணல், drinking toddy or ardent spirits. 5. பொய்கூறல், lying. The last seems but little regarded, also the fourth by many. Instead of the last three, the following are named by some; இருது சூதகம், menstruation. உச்சிட்டசூதகம், being spitten upon. சண்டாளபரிசசூதகம், contact with one of low caste. சூதகக்காரன், s. One ceremonially impure. சூதகக்காரி--சூதகஸ்திரி, s. A woman ceremonially unclean, by catamenia, or otherwise. சூதகக்கிராணி, s. A disease attending the childbirth, from wind or flatulency. சூதகங்கழிக்க, inf. To remove impurity by the prescribed means. சூதகங்காக்க, inf. To keep from society, abstain from venery, from shaving. &c., after a death, till the performance of the funeral rites. சூதகசன்னி, s. A disease of females from sexual intercourse during menstruation. See சன்னி. சூதகத்துக்குடையவர்கள், appel. n. Heirs of one deceased. சூதகமலடு, s. One of the six forms of barrenness. See மலடு. சூதகமாக, inf. To have the monthly course as a woman. (c.) சூதகமுட்டு, s.
