A flood of water, a deluge, inundation. சலப்பை, s. The urinary bladder; [ex பை, bag.] சலமலம், s. Urine and excrement. (c.) 2. (R.) The sponge, நீர்ப்பஞ்சு. சலமறிப்பு--சலவடைப்பு, v. noun. Stoppage of urine. சலமொட்ட, inf. To be firmly resolved on revenging an injury. (p.) சலம்பிடிக்க, inf. To collect--as matter in a boil, சீல்கொள்ள. 2. (R.) To affirm or deny obstinately, பிடிவாதஞ்செய்ய. சலம்பிதுக்க, inf. [prov.] To squeeze out the pus or matter from a boil. (c.) சலமிறங்க, inf. To pass--as urine. 2. To flow off-as the superfluous humors by the urethra. சலம்புரி, s. Chank, சங்கு. (M. Dic.) சலம்விட, inf. To pass or void urine. சலராகம், s. Reddish color, pale red; [ex இராகம், red color.] சலராசி, s. The sea, ocean, a collection of water, கடல்; [ex இராசி, collection.] சலரோகம், s. Diabetes, நீரழிவு. சலவர், s. Inhabitants of maritime districts, (lit.) the water-people, or sea fairing men. Compare பஃறியர், திமிலர், கடலர், &c. சலவாதி, s. An angry person, தணியாக் கோபமுள்ளவன். 2. An obstinate, pertinacious person, குரோதமுடையோன். (p.) 3. [ex சலம் for சஞ்சலம், grief, et வாதி, declarer.] A person of the servile tribe employed to announce one's death to the relations, friends, &c., மரணசெய்தி சொல்வோன். 4. See சலபாதை. (c.) சலவாழைக்காய், s. Fish, (lit.) the water-plantain. See சலபுட்பம். சலாசயம், s. [in phys.] One of the five ஆசயம் of the body, the receptacle of the urine, the bladder. See பஞ்சாசயம். சலாதாரம், s. A pool, lake, reservoir of water--as சலதரம். (R.) 41) *

cātaṉai (p. 175) s. W. p. 916. SA'DHANA. Steady and presevering practice, unwearied application, steady zeal, constancy, persistence in an opinion; steadfast maintenance of doctrines, &c., விடாதமுயற்சி. 2. Perfect imitation of life, appearance of reality--as in dramatic actions, நடித்துக் காட்டுகை. 3. Retaining malice, சலஞ்சாதிக் கை. 4. Dissimulation, misrepresentation, falsehood, பொய். (c.) இல்லையென்றொரேசாதனையாய்ச் சாதிக்கிறான். He obstinately persists in denying. சாதனைக்காரன், s. One who practises any dexterous act, சாதகம்பண்ணுகிறவன். 2. A dissembler, a hypocrite, மாமாலி. 3. A tenacious person; one who steadfastly maintains an opinion, or perseveres in a practice. சாதனைத்தீர்ப்பு, v. noun. Obstinately affirming or denying. (R.) சாதனைபண்ண, inf. To practise a dexterous art; to habituate one's self to austerities. 2. To dissemble thoroughly. 3. To imitate to the life. 4. To maintain an assertion, whether true or false, பிடிவாதஞ்செய்ய. கற்பசாதனை, s. Strengthening the body by the use of drugs, &c., to promote longevity. See கற்பம். யோகசாதனை, s. tuṟaṭṭi (p. 251) --துறடு, s. An iron crook, an elephant goad, அங்குசம். 2. An entanglement, சிக்கு. See துறோட்டி. துறட்டிலேமாட்டிக்கொண்டான். He entangled himself. துறட்டிச்செடி, s. A shrub with crooked thorns, ஓர்முட்செடி, Pisonia, L. துறட்டிப்பழம், s. Its fruit. துறட்டிரும்பு--துறட்டுமுள், s. A crooked iron or hook fastened in the integuments of the back of those who swing in the air at the செடில் festival. துறட்டுக்கோல், s. An iron crook fixed at the end of a pole to pluck fruits. துறட்டுப்பிடி--துறட்டுவாதம், s. Urgency, compulsive request, pressing one, &c., obstinacy in maintaining one's opinion, பிடிவாதம். 15)

Help, power, refuge, support, உதவி. 9. Religious belief, opinion or tenet, மதக் கொள்கை. 1. A fist, a closed hand, கை முஷ்டி. 11. A handful with the hand closed, a small quantity, பிடியளவு. பிடிகாசு, s. [prov.] A small sum kept back by a purchaser as auspicious. பிடிகாரன், s. [prov.] A fisherman by occupation மீன்பிடிக்கிறவன். பிடிகொடுக்க, inf. To suffer one's self to be taken. 2. To give a handle. 3. To speak or act so as to commit one's self, to divulge one's affairs unintentionally. பிடிகொடாதபேச்சு, Talk of which the meaning cannot be made out. 2. Abuse or irony in terms not to be taken hold of for prosecution. பிடிக்கட்டு, s. A little bundle especially of palm-leaves, tied up. பிடிக்கொழுக்கட்டை, s. A kind of கொழுக்கட்டை pastry. பிடிசுட்டுப்படைக்க, inf. [prov.] To bake little cakes and offer them to the household gods. பிடிதண்டம், s. Unjust seizure of a person. See தண்டம். பிடிநெல்லு, s. A handful of paddy, taken from each marcal by the servants at the public store, as their perquisite for measuring. பிடிநெல்லுக்கிள்ள, inf. [prov.] To take the handful of paddy for measuring. பிடிபிடியென்றுநிற்க, inf. [fig.] To hasten a business. பிடிபோட, inf. To put a handle to any implement. பிடிப்பிச்சை, s. A handful of rice given by a house-wife to the Brahmans, or other religious mendicants. பிடிப்பிட்டு, s. A small kind of confectionary, ஓர்சிற்றுண்டி. பிடிமண், s. A handful of sand. நானுன்வாயிற்பிடிமண்போடுகிறேன். I put a handful of sand in your mouth-spoken in anger. பிடியரிசி, s. Handfuls of rice taken from the daily allowance, for charity. பிடியாள், s. A person seized or taken into custody. 2. As அமஞ்சியாள். பிடியெழுத்தாணி, s. A style in a handle, usually folding and with a knife. பிடிமானம், s. Affection, attachment, fondness, favoritism, அன்பு. 2. Relish, zest; a liking, பிரியம். 3. Acquisition, money amassed, தேட்டம். 4. Frugality, sparingness, parsimony, உலோபம். Rigidness, bigotry, pertinacity, perseverance, உறுதி. பிடிமானமில்லாமற்செலவுசெய்கிறான். He expends profusely. பிடியன், appel. n. [vul.] A pot that will hold any given quantity. 2. s. A female elephant, as பிடி. பிடிவாதம், s. Stubbornness, contumacy, pertinacity, perverseness, முரண்டு. 2. Firm determination--as of an enthusiast who tortures himself till the god complies with is request; persistence, strenuousness, விடாநிலை. 3. Unyieldingness, spitefulness, வைராக்கியம். பிடிவாதக்காரன், s. An obstinate, selfwilled person. பிடிவாதி, appel. n. As பிடிவாதக்காரன். பிடிவிட, inf. To let go one's hold or grasp. 2.
