Brahma of the Triad, as creator, progenitor or evolver of worlds and creatures, நான்முகன். பிரமன்றந்தை, s. Vishnu as father of Brahma, விஷ்ணு. பிரமாஞ்சலி, s. A form of worship in which the two hands are joined, and placed at the breast. பிரமாட்சரம், s. A letter which is the origin of all letters, and the prime root of all prayers and incantations, மூலவெ ழுத்து. பிரமாண்டம், s. The system of worlds, as created by Brahma, உலகம். 2. One of the eighteen Puranas, பதினெண்புரா ணத்தொன்று. 3. [fig.] That which is large, gigantic, huge, colossal, காத்திரம். (usage.) பிரமாண்டநாயகன், s. Lord of the universe, கடவுள். 2. An epithet used in praise, or compliment, சக்கரவர்த்தி. பிரமாத்திரம்--பிரமாஸ்திரம், s. A famous arrow of supernatural qualities, given by Brahma to some, who had practised extraordinary austerities. பிரமாந்தரம், s. Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, உயிர்நிலை. பிரமாயு, s. The age of Brahma, as பிர மகற்பம்; [ex ஆயு.] பிரமாயுதம், s. A number, one million, பத்திலட்சம். (சது.) பிரமாரண்ணியம், s. The name of a town called வேதாரண்ணியம். பிரமாலயம், s. The house of a brahman. பிரமானந்தம், s. Heavenly bliss, or felicity, as பரமானந்தம். பிரமோத்தரகாண்டம், s. The last section of chapter of the Brahma Purana, added by the Saivas concerning Gokarnam, பிரமபுராணத்துக்கடைக்காண்டம். பிரமோற்சவம், s. An annual grand festival at a pagoda. 3) *

piraḷayam (p. 317) --பிரளையம், s. Destruction; an overflowing, inundation, வெள் ளம். 2. The end of a kalpa, கற்பமுடிவு. W. p. 578. P'RALAYA. 3. A number, ஓரெண். 4. One of the divisions of an army, படையிலொருதொகை.-- Of பிரளயம் are four kinds, அக்கினிப்பிரளயம், சலப்பிரளயம், மகா ப்பிரளயம், மனுப்பிரளயம், which see; also பிர மப்பிரளயம், பிராகிருதப்பிரளயம், &c. பிரளயகாலம், s. The time of the general destruction of the universe, உலக முடிவு. பிரளயகாலருத்திரன், s. Rudra as destroyer of the world at the deluge. See காலாக்கினிஉருத்திரர். பிரளயாகலர், s. [pl.] The second class of souls subject to two of the three மலம், that is, to ஆணவம் and கன்மம், but free from மாயை and not subject to births, having by their merit risen to the rank of gods, மாயைநீத்தோர். makā (p. 338) adj. Great, high, exalted, dignified, noble, honorable, பெருமையான. 2. Immense, prodigious, stupendous, monstrous, extreme, அளவற்ற. 3. Superior, greater, paramount, superlative, உயர்ந்த. 4. Intense, மிகுந்த.--Note. This particle is sometimes repeated to express intensity, as மகாமகாப் பட்ட, the greatest. (Beschi.) Also sometimes contracted to மக, and மா, as மகராசா, மாசனங்கள்; [ex மகத்து.] அதுமகாஅரிது. It is very difficult. அதுமகாஅபூர்வம். It is very rare. மகராசன், s. A king, அரசன். 2. A rich or great or good man, சீமான். மகராசா, s. The king, the sovereign. மகராசி, s. A rich or benevolent lady; (lit.) a queen. மகரிஷி, s. An exalted Rishi, மகாரிஷி. மகாஅவதானி, s. A person who has excellent memory. மகாகருவம்--மகாகர்வம், s. Much arrogance. 2. Ten billions. மகாகற்பம், s. The great Kalpa, consisting of a vast period, probably the life time of Bramha, or 155,52,,, solar years, after which there will be a universal destruction.--Note. By analogy it would be only 1 கற்பம் of 4,32,, each or 43,2,, years; but கற்பம் is used very indefinitely. மகாகாசம்--மகாகாயம், s. The air, or ether at large; as distinguished from கடாகாசம், or air in a pot, the atmosphere, பெருவெளி. மகாகாலம், s. A great and long period of time, sometimes used for eternity, நெடுங்காலம். மகாகிதி--மகாக்ஷிதி, s. A certain number, one thousand trillions. மகாகோணி--மகாக்ஷோணி, s. Ten trillions. மகாகோரம், s. A division of hell, or Tartarus, நரகத்தினோரிடம். மகாசகை, s. A plant bearing an unfading flower, Gomphr&oe;na globosa, வாடா மல்லிகை. W. p. 652. MAHASAHA. மகாசங்கம், s. A hundred billions. 2. The thirteenth evening from the new and full moon, a time in which the Saivas, expect particular benefits from their religious exercises. See பிரதோஷம். மகாப்பிரபு, s. A very great, illustrious, or holy person. மகாப்பிரபுக்கள்சபை, s. House of lords. (adopted.) மகாப்பிரளயம், s. The great deluge which destroys the universe at the end of each great Kalpa See பிரளயம். 2. (fig.) A number, ஓரெண். மகாமகம், s. [com. மாமகம்--colloq. மாமா ங்கம்.] The occurrence of the full moon in or about the asterism, மகம், with other astronomical incidents, which occur once in twelve years. Peculiar rites in honor of Siva, are then performed. The time is auspicious for bathing, especially at Combaconum. மகாமண்டபம், s. An open large court of temple, the fourth from the shrine. மகாமந்திரம், s. [com. மூலமந்திரம்.] An appropriate name of Deity. மகாமந்திரமூர்த்திகள், s. A class of souls of a superior order, consisting of seventy-five millions. Of these, thirty-five millions attain liberation when the work of creation is finished. மகாமந்திரி, s. The prime minister. மகாமாயி--மகாமாரி, s. [com. மகமாயி.] A name of Durga, துர்க்கை. மகாமாயை, s. Mother of the king of the Asuras, சூரபன்மன்தாய். 2. As மாமாயை. மகாமிருகம், s. The elephant, யானை. மகாமுத்திரை, s. One of the symbols of the Yoga system, யோகமுத்திரை. மகாமுனி--மகாரிஷி, s. A great Muni. 2. A name of Agastya, அகஸ்தியன். மகாமேரு--மகமேரு, s. The great Meru, or golden mountain, thought to be in the middle of the Central continent. மகாயக்கியம்--மகாயாகம், s. The first order of sacrifices. It is of five kinds; 1. பிரமம், or வேதமோதல், reading and learning Vedas; 2. தெய்வம், or ஓமம்வ ளர்த்தல், kindling a sacrificial fire; 3. பூதம், or பலியீதல், fragments of food left at an oblation; 4. பிதிர், or தர்ப்பணமுடித் தல், presenting water to the manes of persons deceased; 5. மானுடம், or இரப் போர்க்குணவீதல், gifts to beggars. மகாயுகம், s. The great age, the aggregate of the four ages, 4,32, years. மகாயோசனை, s. A large number. மகாரணியம், s. A very large forest, பெருங்காடு; [ex ஆரணியம்.] மகாரதன்--மாரதன், s. The rising of the sun and moon in conjunction, on a Monday, the sun being in Capricorn, in the month of January, and the moon in the twenty-second lunar asterism, in the seventh யோகம்--regarded as a most auspicious moment for sacred bathing; such is called மகோதயதீர்த்தம். maṉu (p. 346) s. Menu, the great legislator and saint, regarded as the son of Brahma, or a personification of that god, and the author of மானவம் or Institutes of Menu. He is called Swayambhuva, மனுச்சக்கிரவர்த்தி. 2. A generic term, applied to the fourteen successive Menus who preside over the universe, each for the period of a Manuvantara--In the present Kalpa there have already been six, of whom Swayambhuva was the first. The seventh, or now ruling Menu, is Vaivaswata. 3. Man in general, மனுஷன். 4. Mantra, a mystical verse, or formula, மந்திரம். W. p. 641. MANU. 5. One of the treatises of jurisprudence. virāṭṭu (p. 397) s. The first progeny of Brahma, who, having divided himself into male and female, produced Viraj from the female; Viraj by himself produced the first Menu, or Swayamb'huva, who was the progenitor of the Prajapatis, and the secondary framer of the visible world. According to some, Viraj is the same as Para-Brahma. the primary cause. See W. p. 781. VIRAJ. Others consider him to be the same as Parama-purusha, or Vishnu; who, after being formed, offered up himself in sacrifice. See Kennedy's An. 2.
