cilēṭai (p. 186) --சிலேஷை, s. A figure of Rhetoric, a paronomasia, in which a word or phrase has a double meaning; a pun, a quibble, உபயார்த்தசொற்றொடர், as நீர்வாரும், which may mean, come thou, or pour water. See அலங்காரம். W. p. 866. S'LESHA. --Note. There are two kinds of சிலேடை. viz., செம்மொழிச்சிலேடை, பிரிமொழிச்சிலேடை, which see. சிலேடைதீவகம், s. A union of the two figures, சிலேடை and தீவகம். சிலேடையாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak ambiguously, to play upon words. சிலேடையுவமை, s. A mixture of the figures சிலேடை and simile. செம்மொழிச்சிலேடை, s. See செம் மொழி. 71) *

piri (p. 317) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To part from; to diverge, நீங்க. 2. To become disjoined or parted, கட்டுவிட. 3. To leave, to quit, depart, recede, விட்டுவிலக. 4. To disagree, as persons, வேறுபட. 5. To secede, அகல. 6. To be untwisted, as a rope; to be ripped or loosened as a seam, or texture, முறுக்கவிழ. 7. To be analyzed, to be decomposed, கூறுபாடாக. 8. To be understood, விள ங்க. (c.)--Note. This word is often improperly pronounced and written, பிறி. பிரிந்துபோனபால். Turned milk. (R.) பிரிநிலை,s. [in gram.] Distinction as indicated by certain particles, வேறுபடுக்கு நிலை. See ஏ 1. பிரிநிலையுயர்புநவிற்சியணி, s. A rhetorical expression or figure, ஓரலங்காரம். பிரிநிலையெச்சம், s. A form of speech by which a fact not expressed is implied--as அவனோகொண்டான், it is he who bought it, not others. பிரிந்திசைத்துள்ளல், s. One of the modes of கலிப்பா verse, கலிப்பாவினோசையி னொன்று. பிரிந்திசைத்தூங்கல், s. One of the characteristics of வஞ்சிப்பா verse, வஞ்சிப் பாவினோசையினொன்று. பிரிமொழிச்சிலேடை, s. A kind of சிலே டை verse in which the words convey different meanings as differently arranged, as மென்காமரமுழக்கும்வேங்கடமே, Vengadam where beetles sing soft tunes, or where elephants tread down the tender trees in the grove. பிரியலர், appel. n. [pl.] Friends, those who forsake not, சிநேகிதர். (p.) பிரியாவிடை, s. A dieu, farewell, a respectful form at parting, implying that the heart does not leave. (c.) பிரிவினை, s. Division, separation, பிரிவு. 2. Disunion, disagreement, ஒவ்வாமை. 3. Sehism as to religion, சமயபேதம். Sometimes பிரிவனை. பிரிவினைக்காலமோதெரியாது. I know not whether the time of separation has come. பிரிவு, v. noun. [used substantively.] Separation, division, disjunction, பிரிவினை. 2. Section, chapter or paragraph of a book, புஸ்தகப்பகுப்பு. 3. Parted, ripped-as a seam loosened, or as a yarn from the cloth தையற்பிரிவு. 4. Disunion, disagreement, dissension, ஒவ்வாமை. 5. Secession, segregation, schism, மதபேதம். 6. Distinction, difference, வேறுபாடு. 7. [in arith.] Division; also பிரிவுக்கணக்கு. (c.) பிரிவாற்றாமை, s. Impatience of sepation-- lovers' language when they separate, பிரிவைச்சகியாமை. (குறள்.) பிரிவுகாலம்--பிரிவினைக்காலம், s. The time of separation. பிரிவுகாட்டுதல், v. noun. Appearing strikingly different. பிரிவுசெய்தல். Dividing, separating, distinguishing. பிரிவுபடுதல். Being separated, or divided. 2. Becoming discordant, disagreeing as former friends. 67)
