A creeping plant, சிறுகுறிஞ்சா, Periploca, L. அமுதப்பார்வை, s. A favorable or propitious look. as of a lady towards her admirer, குளிர்ந்தபார்வை. அமதமேந்தல், v. noun. Giving food to ascetics and other virtuous persons, guests, as one of the nine kinds of புண்ணியம், and of the sixteen உபசாரம். அமுதயோகம், s. [in astrology.] The auspicious conjunction of a certain day of the week, phase of the moon and lunar constellation. See யோகம். அமுதர், s. Celestials, வானோர். 2. Herdsmen, இடையர். (p.) அமுதவல்லி, s. uẕai (p. 67) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [col. for உழத்து.] To earn, gain by labor, procure by industry, to acquire, வருந்தியீட்ட. 2. v. n. To labor hard, toil, strive, drudge, ply, வேலையிற்பிர யாசப்பட. 3. (p.) To sound--as talk, buzz, clamor, இரைய. 4. To suffer, endure hardships, to be afflicted, துன்பமுற. கல்வியிலேமிகவுமுழைக்கிறான். He is very diligent and successful in study. நானுழைத்தஉடைமையிலேதின்கிறேன். I live by my own earnings. உழைத்தபுண்ணியம், s. Acquired merit. உழைத்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To labor for nothing, or in vain. வயிற்றுக்குழைக்க, inf. To labor for one's maintenance. 2. To procure support by labor. உழைப்பு, v. noun. Hand-labor, toil, industry, diligence, பிரயாசம். 2. Earnings, gain, profit of labor, toil, or industry, thriving, thriftiness, வருந்தி யீட்டுகை. 3. Endeavors, exertions, energy, close application, முயற்சி. உழைப்பின்வாராவுறுதிகளுளவோகழப்பின்வாராக் கையறவுளவோ? Is there any good to be obtained without exertion? Is there any evil that may not arise from indolence? அவருக்கிலக்கணத்திலேநல்லவுழைப்பு. His application and success in the study of belles-lettres are great. உழைப்பாளி, s. civaṉ (p. 188) s. Siva, the third of the Indian Triad, in the character of destroyer, or reducer of things to their primitive atoms. By his votaries he is considered the supreme god. the other deities being subject to him, சங்கரன். சிவகணம், s. The attendant demi-gods of Siva, commonly in companies, சிவன் சேனை. சிவசமயம், s. The Siva religion. சிவசிந்தை, s. Divine contemplation, meditation on Siva--as சிவத்தியானம். சிவஞானசித்தியார்--சிவஞானசித்தி, s. A commentary on சிவஞானபோதம். See சித்தி யார். சிவஞானபோதம், s. A celebrated work consisting of twelve rules translated from the ரௌரவம், or the sixteenth Agama, being almost the only part of the Agamas known in Tamil. It is regarded as divine, without origin, and as not to be read unless the person has attained a competent degree in the religion. Other works--as சித்தியார், சிவப்பி ரகாசம், தத்துவப்பிரகாசம், &c., are commentaries on this or other treatises in support of its doctrines, ஓராகமநூல். சிவஸ்தலம்--சிவஸ்தானம்--சிவதலம், s. Blasphemy or contempt of Siva. சிவபஜனை, s. Praising Siva by lyrics. சிவபத்தர்--சிவபத்திக்காரர்--சிவமதஸ்தர், s. Worshippers or devotees of Siva as distinguished from விட்டுணுபத்தர். சிவபத்தி, s. The religion of Siva. 2. The profession of the Siva religion. 3. Adherence, attachment, or devotedness to Siva. சிவபுண்ணியம், s. Deeds of merit, performances in reference to Siva--as சிவதர்மம். சிவபூசை, s. The worship of Siva as practised in the temple or by the கிரியை க்காரன்; the Siva-pujah, consisting of the offering of flowers, milk, boiled rice, fruits, &c., waving incense and light-reciting mantras and praises, prostrating, before the idol, &c., 2. Mental worship of Siva, in which there is an idol ceremony corresponding to what is mentioned above. சிவபூசைவேளையிலே கரடியைவிட்டாட்டுகிறதா. Is it proper to exhibit a dancing bear during the Siva-pujah--i. e. to trifle on a solemn occasion? சிவபுராணம், s. The Siva-Puranas, forming ten out of the eighteen. See புராணம். சிவபுரி, s. The kind, merciful, gracious, benevolent God. சீவகாலம்--சீவநாள், s. Life time. சீவகோடிகள், s. Myriads of living creatures. சீவசங்கட்டம், s. The struggle preceding the last breathing. See சங்கட்டம். சீவசாட்சி--சீவசாட்சிசைதன்னியம், s. The intelligent soul, or universal intellect, according to the Vedantic system, as witness of all things, and identified with the Supreme Being, or Brahm. சீவசுவாசம், s. The breath of life. சீவசெந்து, s. Living beings. சீவதருமம்--சீவபுண்ணியம், s. Meritorious deeds of men to living creatures as distinguished from சிவதருமம் or சிவ புண்ணியம், divine benevolence. சீவதாதா, s. A patron, a generous, liberal person. (c.) சீவதாரு, s. tampirāṉ (p. 224) s. God the Supreme Being. (See எம்பிரான், and உம்பிரான்.) 2. A title of royalty in Travancore, பொன்னந்தம்பிரான். 3. A kind of monk, devoted to celibacy, in token of which he wears red garments and clotted hair; is generally learned and qualified to perform the Siva-pujah. pāvam (p. 313) s. [St. பாபம்.] Sin, vice, evil, crime, தீமை. 2. Demerit, accumulated results of evil actions attaching to the soul, தீவினை. 3. Misfortune, as the result of former actions, but often spoken in burlesque, அதிஷ்டவீனம். (c.) பாவகாரி, s. (St.) A sinner, பாவி. பாவங்கட்டுப்படுதல், v. noun. The accumulation of sin. பாவசங்கீர்த்தனம்-பாவசங்கீர்த்தனை, s. [R. Cath. use.] Confession of sin. பாவசென்மம், s. As பாவயோனி. பாவசேடம், s. Remains of sin attaching to holy persons, பாவத்தின்மீதி. 2. Remaining demerit of souls at the close of a term of existence, to be expiated afterwards, ஊழின்மீதி. பாவச்சடம்--பாவசரீரம், s. Bodies assumed as the effect of former actions. பாவச்சுமை, s.
