caṟ (p. 173) adj. [A sanscrit prefix.] Good, right, excellent, virtuous, &c., நல்ல, உச்சித. W. p. 884. SAT. சற்கருமம்--சற்கன்மம், s. Good deeds, charitable or meritorious acts. See கரு மம். சற்கன்மபரிபாகம், s. The maturing of works of merit performed in previous births, supposed to promote the illumination of the soul, and to lead to the use of means for its deliverance from transmigrations. (p.) சற்கரிக்க, inf. To treat hospitably, to entertain, உபசரிக்க. 2. To be kind, polite, civil, obliging; [ex சற்காரம்.] சற்காரம், s. Kindness, beneficence, hospitality, civility, உபசாரம். W. p. 884. SATKARA. (p.) சற்காரியம், s. Good things, virtuous deeds, pursuits, &c., meritorious actions. சற்காரியவித்தை, s. The four incidents connected with births as necessary for the performance of actions, namely. 1. தனு, body for the performance of actions. 2. கரணம், intellectual faculties, the senses, &c. 3. புவனம், word, locality--as the theatre of actions. 4. போகம், suffering and enjoyment. (p.) சற்குணம், s. An obliging disposition, amiableness, good nature, benevolence, religion. (c.) சற்குணன், appel. n. An amiable, virtuous, obliging person. சற்குரு, s. A guru who seeks the good of his disciples, நற்குரு. 2. The deity--as the teacher of souls, according to their various states. (c.) சற்சங்கம், s. Good society. (p.) சர்சனர், s. [prop. சச்சனர்.] Good or pious men. (c.) சற்சலம், s. Good, pure water, நல்ல சலம். (p.) (சது.) சற்சூத்திரர், s. Superior sudras who have advanced to the கிரியை, or second degree in the Saiva religion; also called சைவர். (p.) சற்பாத்திரம், s. A good vessel, i.e. a worthy, pious, virtuous man, ஒழுக்க முடையோன். W. p. 885. SATPATRA. சற்பிரசாதம், s. A divine gift, a boon, தேவப்பிரசாதம். 2. A sacred offering, நிவே தனம். 3. [in Christ. usage.] Sacrament of the Lord's supper, நற்கருணை. See பிரசா தம். cittaṉ (p. 182) s. Siva, the accomplisher, சிவன். 2. (நிக.) Bhairava, வைரவன். 3. (நிக.) Argha of the Jainas, அருகன். 4. [ex சித்து, magic.] One who displays powers above natural comprehension--as in magic, legerdemain, alchymy, &c., the production of supernatural appearances, மாயவித்தைசெய்வோன். 5. (fig.) A cunning person, a trickish man, தந்திரி. 6. An upright man, உண்மையுள்ளவன். Sa. Sid'dha. சித்தஞானம், s. The highest state of spiritual wisdom, as derived from Siva, according to the சித்தாந்தம். சித்தபுருடன், s. A prosperous man blessed by God with great and extraordinary gifts. (Colloq.) 65)

nāṭi (p. 273) s. W. p. 46. NADI. Pulse especially at the wrist, sometimes at the foot, தாது. 2. An Indian hour of twentyfour minutes, நாழிகை. (c.) 3. An artery, a vein, tendon, sinew, muscle, nerve, ligament, நரம்பு. 4. String of a guitar, யாழ் நரம்பு. 5. Any thing tubular, tube, pipe, tupularity, உட்டுளை. 6. Nose, மூக்கு. 7. A man's lock of hair, ஆண்மயிர். (சது.) 8. The hollow stalk of the lotus, தாமரைத்தாள்.-There are three varieties of pluse; 1. வாத நாடி, indicating acid humors, hypochondria, &c., and felt by the fore-finger. 2. பித்தநாடி, indicating billous humors, felt by the second finger. 3. சிலேட்டுமநாடி, indicating phlegmatic humors, felt by the third finger,--Note. In healthy persons, cach நாடி is supposed to be prevalent for ten நாழிகை, or four hours of the day and night alike, beginning from sunrise and from sunset; any derangement of these is regarded as indicative of disease. தசநாடி, s. The ten nerves are: 1. சுழிமுனை, passing through the six ஆதாரம்; 2. இடை. beginning from the great toe of the right foot and passing up to the left nostril; 3. பிங்கலை, beginning from the great toe of the left foot, and passing up to the right nostril, crossing each other in five different places; 4. காந்தாரி, beginning at the navel and passing to the neck, where they assume a seven-fold form, being the sources of the seven musical tones of the human voice; 5. அத்தி; 6. சிகுவை, situated in the region of the eyes forming ten branches, as optical nerves; 7. அலம் புடை. 8. புருடன், in the region of the ears forming 12 branches or auditory nerves; 9. குரு, beginning at the navel and reaching to the verenda; 1. சங்கி னி, situated in the verenda,--Note. There are said to be 72, pulses in the body. அவன் ஓடிப்பாடி நாடியிலடங்கினான். His power, and bustle, have come to an end said of an extravagant person reduce to poverty. நாடிக்குறி, s. Indication of the pulse. நாடிதாரணை, s. The system of nerves and arteries with their ramifications. நாடிநிலை, s. State of the pulse. நாடிபார்க்க, inf. To feel the pulse. See தாதுபார்க்க. நாடிபரீட்சை, s. Acquainted with the pulse. நாடியறிய, inf. To be acquainted with the system of pulsation in its threefold variety. நாடியெழும்புதல், v. noun. To make ornamental, astrological or mystic diagrams, commonly of a circular figure, யந்திரம்வகுக்க. மண்டலவிதி, s. Directions for making diagrams, for worship, &c. மண்டலபுருடன், s. [also called வீரமண் டலவன்.] A Jaina ascetic equally eminent as a poet and lexicographer. His poetic lexicon சூடாமணிநிகண்டு, outshines all similar productions in Tamil. He also wrote an epic poem in honor of Argha, ஓர்நிகண்டாசிரியன். மண்டலாகாரம், s. A circular figure, course, &c., வட்டவடிவம். மண்டலாபிஷேகம், s. A daily anointing of an idol for forty days, after the கும்பாபிஷேகம் or other ceremony. மண்டலார்த்தம், s. Semicircle, அர்த்த கோளம். 2. Semidiameter, பாதிவிட்டம். மண்டலீகர், s. [pl.] Kings, sovereigns of a limited reign, அரசர். (சது.) மண்டலேசன், s. An emperor, an independent monarch, உலகாதிபதி; [ex ஈசன்.] மண்டலேசுரன்--மண்டலேச்சுவரன், s. An independent sovereign. 2. A monarch who governs a country forty yojana in length, and forty in breadth; or containing over 1, hamlets. 34) *

To bless as a deity, to endow with supernatural gifts one who has performed rigit austerities. வரதம், s. Bestowing a gift, granting a boon, ஈதல். (Sa. Var. da.) வரதன், s. One granting a boon, a benefactor, ஈகையாளன். 2. An epithet of Siva, Vishnu and Argha. (சது.) வரநதி, s. The river Ganges, கங்கை, (சது.) வரப்பிரசாதம், s. [appel. வரப்பிரசாதி.] Divine grace, spiritual gifts. (local.) வரம்பெற்றவன், appel. n. A man who has a particular gift or talent. வரர், s. [pl.] Sages, மேலோர். 2. Celestials, வானோர். (சது.) வரன், s. A husband, புருடன். 2. An epithet of Siva and Brahma--as granting boons. 3. An elder brother, தமையன். வராங்கம், s. The head, தலை. (சது.) 2. An elegant form, அழகியஉருவம். 3. A celestial body, முத்தியர்மெய்; [ex அங்கம்.] வரேந்திரன், s. One richly gifted. வரோதயன், s. One born by special favor of a god, வரத்தினாற்பிறந்தவன். 108)

virāṭṭu (p. 397) s. The first progeny of Brahma, who, having divided himself into male and female, produced Viraj from the female; Viraj by himself produced the first Menu, or Swayamb'huva, who was the progenitor of the Prajapatis, and the secondary framer of the visible world. According to some, Viraj is the same as Para-Brahma. the primary cause. See W. p. 781. VIRAJ. Others consider him to be the same as Parama-purusha, or Vishnu; who, after being formed, offered up himself in sacrifice. See Kennedy's An. 2.
