pulāl (p. 327) s. Flesh, fish, raw meat, ஊன் முதலியன. 2. Stench of raw meats, fish, நாற்றம். (c.) அவன்புலால்சாப்பிடுகிறதில்லை. He never takes meat. பெரும்புலால், s. [prov.] Fishes of prey. புலால்கட்டுதல், v. noun. [prov.] Shutting fishes'mouths, i. e. those of sharks at the pearl-fishery. புலால்மணம்--புலானாற்றம், s. Smell of fish or flesh. புலானீர், s. puli (p. 327) s. A tiger, or panther, வியாக்கிரம். (compare புல்.) 2. Leo of the Zodiac, சிங் கவிராசி. 3. One of the compound unguents. See சாந்து. (சது.)-- of tigers there are different kinds, கொடிப்புலி, கழுதைப்புலி, சிறுபுலி, சிறுத்தைப்புலி, பெரும்புலி or வேங்கைப்புலி, &c., which see. புலிபோலப்பாய்ந்தான். He pounced [on me] like a tiger. புலிக்குட்டி, s. A tiger's whelp. புலிக்கொடியோன், appel. n. A king of the solar dynasty, (lit.) whose flag was a tiger. புலித்தடுக்கி--புலித்தொடக்கி, s. A prickly shrub, said to obstruct the passage of tiger, C&ae;salpinia. (Rox.) புலித்தோல், s. Tiger's skin, regarded as a pure seat for the strict religionist. 2. (p.) As புலித்தோலுடையோன். புலித்தோலுடையோன், appel. n. Siva, as robed with a tiger's skin, சிவன். புலிநகம், s. A tiger's claw; often put on the neck of a child, as a charm or ornament. புலிநகக்கொன்றை, s. A kind of flower shrub. See கொன்றை. புலிநெய், s. Tiger's fat, as a medicament. புலிப்பனை, s. [prov.] A tiger's den. புலிப்பாய்ச்சல், v. noun. Springing or leaping of a tiger. புலிமுகக்கடுக்கன்--புலிமுகப்பணி, s. A kind of female ear-ornament resembling a tiger's mouth. புலிமுகச்சிலந்தி--புலிமெய்ச்சிலந்தி, s. A tarantula, ஓர்விஷசெந்து. See சிலந்தி. புலியுறுமி, appel. n. [prov.] A kind of drum, sounding like the growl of a tiger, ஓர்பறை. 2. A watchman's rattle, கிறிச் சான். 3. A rattle to scare away birds, புள்ளோட்டுங்கருவி. புலியுறுமுதல், v. noun. Growling of a tiger. புலியூர், s. A name of Chillumbrum, said to be the residence of a Rishi with a tiger's leg, சிதம்பரம். புலியேறு, s. A male tiger, ஆண்புலி. 3)

perumai (p. 334) s. Greatness, largeness-oppos. to சிறுமை, பருமை. 2. Highness, dignity, excellence, eminence, nobleness, grandeur, மாட்சிமை. 3. Abundance, excessiveness, மிகுதி. 4. Power, might, வல்ல மை. 5. Celebrity, renown, கீர்த்தி. 6. (fig.) Pride, vanity, self-consequence, haughtiness, அகந்தை. 7. [in combin.] Grossness, heinousness, notoriousness. (c.)--Note. For the changes in combination, see அருமை. The first letter is lengthened as பேர், in the adjective. பெருமைபீற்றற்கோலம். Pride will end in rags. பெருமைபெத்தரிக்கமில்லாமலிருக்கிறது. Being free from pride and arrogance. பெருமையாய்ப்பேசுதல். Speaking arrogantly. அதுனக்குப்பெருமையல்ல. That is no honor to you. பெரியகுடி--பெரியகுடியானவன், s. [com. பெரியப்பன்.] The father's elder brother, or the mother's elder sister's husband. பெரியதம்பிரான், s. A god, ஓர்தேவ தை, also used in irony. 2. See தம்பிரான். பெரியதனம், s. Dignity, honor, கனம். See தனம். 2. Pride, haughtiness, arrogance, மேட்டிமை. 3. Superintendence. பெரியதனத்துக்கிருக்க, inf. To affect to be a great man; to anticipate great things. 2. To expect the office of govern or, &c. பெரியதனம்பண்ண, inf. To govern, to hold the office or place of a magistrate or governor. பெரியதாய்--பெரியமாதா--பெரியாத் தாள்--பெரியாயி--பெரியாய் s. The wife of a father's elder brother, &c. See தாய். பெரியது. That which is great or large. பெரியத்தை, s. [contrac. of பெரிய அத் தை.] The father's elder sister. பெரியநங்கை--பெரியாநங்கை, s. A medicinal plant. See பெரியாணங்கை. பெரியநடை, s. A noble course of conduct, nobleness, gentility, நல்லொழுக்கம். பெரியநாயகி, s. An epithet of Parvati at Vriddhachalam, பார்வதி. பெரியநாள், s. A special day, holiday. பெரியபட்டணம், s. A large city. 2. A town on the Malabar coast so called. பெரியபாட்டன், s. Grand-father's elder brother. பெரியபாட்டி, s. Grand-mother's eldersister. பெரியபிராட்டி, s. Lukshmi. பெரியபுராணம், s. An ancient Purana, describing the history of the sixty-three famous devotees of Siva. பெரியபுலு, s. [in cant numbers.] A hundred, நூறு. பெரியபெயர், s. A great name, celebrity, popularity. பெரியமனம், s. A noble mind, magnanimity, உதாரமனம். பெரியமனிதன், s. A great man, பாரி மனிதன். 2. An aged man. பெரியமாமன்--பெரியம்மான், s. The mother's elder brother. பெரியம்மை, s. [contrac. of பெரியஅம் மை.] Small-pox, ஓர்வைசூரி. பெரியர்--பெரியவர்--பெரியார்--பெரி யோர், s. [pl.] The aged, முதியோர். 2. The great. பெரியவன், s. A grown-up man. 2. A man in authority or office, a man of wealth, or excellence, மேன்மையுள்ளோன். பெரியவீட்டுக்காரன், s. (lit.) One living in a large house; ironically; one living in a hut. 2. A Pariah. பெரியவுழைப்பு, v. noun. Close application to labor or study, மிகுமுயற்சி. பெரியவெண்ணம், s. High aspirations, great conceptions. 2. [fig.] High conceit, assumption. பெரியோரியல்பு, s. Properties, qualities or characteristics of the great, of which seven are enumerated: 1. அறம், virtue, beneficence; 2. பொருள், property, wealth; 3. இன்பம், pleasure, enjoyment; 4. அன்பு, love, affection; 5. புகழ், celebrity, fame; 6. மதிப்பு, estimation, esteem; 7. பொறுமை, patience, forbearance. See தொடை. பெருந்தேவனார், s. (Hon.) Names of two professors of the Madura college; one of whom wrote an imitation of the Mahabharat in வெண்பா, which is known by the name of சங்கத்துப்பாரதம். Carelessness, negligence, supineness, அசட்டை. பெரும்பறவை, s. The feigned bird with eight legs, எண்காற்புள். பெரும்பனசை--பெரும்பனையன், s. Small-pox, with large pustules. See பனசை. பெரும்பாடு, s. Immoderate flow of the menses; (lit.) great suffering. பெரும்பாடிறைக்க, inf. To flow excessively, as the menses. பெரும்பாந்தள்--பெரும்பாம்பு, s. A large snake. பெரும்பாலார், s. [pl.] The majority. A plant, Illecebrum Javanicum. பெரும்பெயர், s. A great name, great renown. பெரும்பெயர்க்கடவுள். The Supreme Being. பெரும்பொங்கல், v. noun. A ceremonial boiling of rice by great numbers.
