il (p. 55) . A form of the fifth case, (see இன்), ஐந்தனுருபு, which denotes. 1. Removal, withdrawal, நீங்கல். (a) Literally --as தமரிற்றீர்ந்தான், he has left his relations, i. e. for ascetic life. (b) (fig.) In which it expresses speciality, disparity, &c., and includes the comparative degree --as அரசரிற்பெரியரந்தணர், the Brahman caste is superior to the royal. 2. Similitude, ஒப்பு--as திறல்வேனுதியிற்பூத்தகேணி. A tank whose flowers resemble the points of mighty lances. 3. The bearing of a place, எல்லை--as கருவூரில்வடக்கு, north of Caroor.--Note. This form of the fifth case is peculiar to the poetic dialect. 4. The primitive cause, ஏது--as பொன்னிற் செய்தமுடி, a crown made of gold. 24)

kākkāy (p. 103) s. [prov. காக்கை.] A crow, (c.) 2. (p.) The twenty-third constellation of the Hindus, அவிட்டம். காக்காயின்கண்ணுக்குப்பீர்க்கம்பூப்பொன்னிறம்... The yellow flower of a cucumber plant appears gold to a crow: i.e. trifles are of value in the eyes of a fool. காக்காய்க்குந்தன்குஞ்சுபொன்குஞ்சு. Even to a crow its young one is regarded as a golden one; i. e. the best. காக்காய்க்கொல்லி, s. A plant, ஓர் செடி, Anamirta cocculus, or Cocculus Indicus. 2. Jagged moon seed, Menispermum cocculus, L. காக்காய்ச்சோளம், s. A small kind of grain, ஓர்சோளம். காக்காய்ப்பாலை, s. A kind of tree, ஓர்பாலை. காக்காய்ப்பூ, s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு, smooth torenia, Torenia asiatica, L. காக்காய்ப்பொன், s. A kind of gold leaf tinsel, cut in small pieces and scattered at weddings and other festivals, போலிப்பொன். காக்காய்மீன், s. A kind of fish, ஓர்மீன். காக்காய்மூக்கன், s. A man with a sharp aquiline nose. காக்காய்மூக்கி, s. A kind of arsenic, கருமுகிற்பாஷாணம், lit crow-beak (nursery usage). காக்காய்வலி, s. [prov.] Prosperity, command of money, பாக்கி யம்; [ex பசுமை.]--Of பச்சடி, are பாகற்காய்ப் பச்சடி, pickle of பாகல் fruit; மாங்காய்ப்பச் சடி, mango pickle; வாழைப்பூப்பச்சடி, pickle of plantain flowers. பச்சடிகண்டால்ஒட்டடிமகளே. Would any one cut his throat because the knife was of gold? பொன்னுக்குப்பொடியாயிருக்கிறது. It is extremely dear; (lit.) a particle for a goldcoin. இதிலேபொன்விளையும். Gold is produced in this, i. e. it is a rich soil. பொற்கட்டி, s. A lump of gold in the mass. பொற்கணக்கு, s.
