That part of the trunk of a tree, or shrub, which reaches from the ground to where the branches begin, (occurs only in composition) thus: கோழரை, a smooth trunk, like the plantain; பொரியரை, a rough trunk, like the tamarind or mangoe; முள்ளரை, a thorny trunk. அரைக்கச்சு--அரைக்கச்சை, s. A string of bells worn by children round the waist. அரைஞாண்--அரைநாண்--அரை நூல், s. A cord worn round the loins to which the cloth to cover the nakedness is attached, or sometimes worn over the inner cloth, and made of gold, silver, &c., called, பொன்னரைஞாண், வெள்ளியரை ஞாண், பட்டையரைஞாண். &c. அரைநலவன், s. [prov.] A bull not well castrated. அரைநாவை, s. A part of the plough which receives the share bent one side and unfit for use, the tip of a hoe bent one side. அரைநாள், s. The half of a day. அரைப்பட்டிகை, s. A golden or silver plate or girdle worn by dancing girls and some other women round the waist, sometimes also by men, இடையணியினொன்று. அரைப்பூட்டு. Girdle, இடைக் கட்டு. 2. A joint of the loins, இடுப்பின் பொருத்து. அரைமூடி, s. A small plate of metal worn by little girls over the private parts. அரையாப்பு--அரையாப்புக்கட்டி, s. [prop. கட்டிதிர ள.] To form or swell--as a tumor. கட்டுத்தையல், s. A kind of firm sewing. கட்டுத்தோணி--கட்டுப்படகு, s. A dhoney or vessel of which the seams are sewed together. கட்டுப்பட, inf. To yield to, to submit, be influenced by, be brought under the power of, be overcome by, கட் டுக்குள்ளடங்க. 2. To be bound by spells or otherwise restrained, மந்திரமுதலியவற் றாற்கட்டுப்பட. 3. To be constipated--as the system; to be obstructed--as waters, as humors in the system, blood, urine, menstruation, &c., தடைப்பட. ஒருமயிரினாலேகட்டுப்படுவான்.
