Frustration, thwarting, விலக்கு. 11. Opposition, check, impediment, தடை. 12. Getting money by deception, swindling, பித்தலாட்டம். 13. (fig.) A cunning remark, a repartee, an insinuation, சூத்திரப்பேச்சு. 14. Patting, மெய்ப்பரிசத் திலொன்று. 15. Publishing by striking a gong, &c., தாளம்போடல்.--Note. In many of these meanings the word is used in cant. (c.) அவனுக்குநல்லதட்டு. He had a good profit. சாப்பாட்டுக்குஇப்போதுஅதிகதட்டு. Now a days, I am much straitened for food. ஒருதட்டுத்தட்டிவிட்டான். He has warded it off, acquitted himself well, given a gentle blow. ஒருதட்டுத்தட்டியிருக்கிறார். He has said something to frustrate the matter, or thrown in a word, &c. [prov.] தட்டிலும்வீச்சிலுங்காரியம்பார்க்க. To make a display and shift the expense on others. தட்டிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க. To support one's self at another's expense. தட்டுக்காரன், s. A rogue, a cunning fellow. 2. An evader, a prevaricator. தட்டுத்தட்ட, inf. To give a tap. 2. To evade. 3. To thwart or frustrate. 4. To act dexterously. தட்டுத்தடவல், v. noun. As தட்டல்த டவல், which see. தட்டாயிருக்க, inf. To be destitute, to be in straits. செலவுக்குத்தட்டாயிருக்கிறது. We are in want of the means of subsistence. தட்டுக்கொட்டு, v. noun. [prov.] Exterior show without accomplishing one's wish. 2. A bauble, gew-gaw. 3. Living by stratagem, &c. தட்டுத்தடக்கு, v. noun. Hesitation, impediment. தட்டுத்தடக்கில்லாமல்வாசிக்கிறான். He reads fluently. தட்டுத்தாவரம், s. [prov.] Resort, resource, refuge, புகலிடம். தட்டுப்பட, inf. To be hit, to be struck--commonly accidentally. 2. To be tapped or beaten as a drum, cymbal, &c. 3. To lack, to be wanting--as stores, money, rain, &c. 4. To be felt by contact. 5. To be stopped in progress, as a vehicle, a performer, &c., To be understood. அவன் என்கண்ணுக்குத்தட்டுப்படவில்லை. I have not seen him any where. இப்போதுதான்எனக்குத்தட்டுப்பட்டது. Now I understand it. தட்டுண்டுபோக, inf. To be beaten off, scattered. 2. To be all threshed out--as rape-seed. 3. To be thwarted, to fail, as an expected good. 4. To be upset, overturned. 5. To exchange commodities clandestinely, and fraudulently. தட்டுக்கெட, inf. To be greatly alarmed, to stand aghast. 2. To be in extremity, in destitution. 3. To suffer loss. தட்டுக்கெட்டுத்தடுமாறிப்போனான். He was greatly surprized. தட்டுக்கெட்டசமாசாரம், s. A complicated business. தட்டுக்கேடு, v. noun. A benevolent, gracious person. தயாபரன், s. (voc. தயாபரா.) The gracious god. 2. (fem. தயாபரி.) A beneficent man. நரசீலதயாபரர். God, who is bountiful towards men. தயாமூர்்த்தி, s. The incarnation of benevolence. தயாவிருத்தி, s. Increase of grace, கிரு பைமிகுதல். 2. The fourteen acts of beneficence, தயாவிருத்தி, 14.--The first seven relate to the soul, the other seven to the body. Of the soul; 1. களாபடனம், education, communication of knowledge, கல் விபயிற்றுகை; 2. வியாதாகாரம், comfort to the afflicted, consolation of mind, துயர்தீர்க்கை; 3. நிர்க்கத்தண்டனம், relieving from punishment, தண்டம்நீக்குகை; 4. சந்தேகவாரணம், removing doubts, contingency, &c., ஐயந் தேற்றுகை; 5. அன்னியகுணசகனம், hearing of the superiority of others without envy, and enduring their infirmities with patience, பிறந்குணத்தழுக்காறின்றிப்பொறுத்தல்; 6. பரதிருதுனயோகம், forgetting the evils inflicted by others and seeking to do them good, பிறராற்செய்யப்படுந்தீமையைமறந்தூன்றிநி னைக்கை; 7. பார்த்ததேவப்பிராத்திதம், praying for the prosperity and good of others, பிறர்நிமித்தந்தேவனைவழிபடுதல். Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

pntl (p. 294) s. A booth, a temporary shed, காவணம். 2. A bower, any frame for running flowers, or a spreading vine, கொடிப டர்பந்தல். (c.) பந்தல்சோடினை, s. Decoration, ornaments, &c., of a festive shed. பந்தல்போட, inf. To make a பந்தல் for a festive occasion, &c. நாலுகாலுண்டானாலொருபந்தல்போடலாம்..... When there are four posts, a booth can be made. பந்தற்கால், s. The posts of a shed. பந்தற்கால்நாட்டுதல், v. noun. Fixing the pole of a booth. See கலியாணக்கால் நாட்டுதல் under நாட்டு. பந்தற்பாடு, v. noun. Slantiness, as of a roof, சாய்ப்பு. 2. [prov. பக்தற்பாடன்.] A flattish roof. பந்தற்பூ, s. A fall of flowers from the இருப்பை tree.
