kẕuttu (p. 98) s. The neck of a person, brute, thing, &c., கண்டம். கழுத்தடி, s. The lower part of the nape of the neck, தோண்மேல். கழுத்தறுக்க, inf. To cut the throat, to server the wind-pipe. முன்விட்டுப்பின்னின்றுகழுத்தறுக்கலாமோ...... Would you bid one take precedence and then cut his throat? ஒருவன்கழுத்திலேகட்டிவிட. To devolve unpleasant consequences on another. 2. To attribute a crime or blame to a person. 3. To impose on another unsaleable goods, or a woman ineligible for marriage. கழுத்திடுகயிறு, s. Halter for a beast. கழுத்திருத்த, inf. To have the neck pressed down with a heavy load. (c.) கழுத்திலேகயிறுபோட, inf. To threaten self-immolation for the purpose of recovering debts, &c. 2. To be very treacherous, insidious, perfidious. (c.). கழுத்துக்குட்டை, s. A neckcloth, a cravat. (c.) கழுத்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lay down the neck for another on the block, to subject one's self to inconvenience or danger. 2. To expose one's life by a commission of crime. 3. To submit to the yoke as bullocks. கழுத்துச்சந்து, s. The joint of the neck. கழுத்துச்சுளுக்கு, s. Straining of the ligaments of the neck by violent turning of the head. கழுத்துத்திருக, inf. To wring off the head of a fowl, &c. 2. To throttle, twist the head. கழுத்துநெடியபானை, s. A longnecked pot. கழுத்துப்பட்டிகை, s. A collar, a cape. கழுத்துப்பட்டை, s. The collar of a cloak. கழுத்துப்பருத்திருக்க, inf. To have a thick neck. கழுத்துப்பொருத்தம், s. One of the ten பொருத்தம் for marriage, மணப்பொருத்தம் பத்திலோன்று. [in astrol.] Ten points in which there should be agreement in the horoscope of the bride and bridegroom. 1. நாள், in the lunar asterism or lunar day of birth. 2. கணம், in the three-fold division of the lunar asterisms, தேவர், இராட்சதர், and மனிதர், nine being ascribed to each, and a preference given where both are not in the same division. 3. மாகேந்திரம், in the rising sign, and the fourth, seventh or tenth. (See கேந்தி ரம்.) 4. திரிதீர்க்கம், in the asterism at the birth of the bridegroom which should be above that of the bride. 5. யோனி, in genital characteristics, ascribed to the lunar constellations. 6. இராசி, in the zodiacal signs, in which after the sixth of the bridegroom, his should be above the bride's. 7. அதிபதி, in the rulers of the signs which are the seven planets. 8. வசியம், in the respective zodiacal signs one with another. 9. வேதம், தாலிப்பொருத்தம் or மங்கிலியக்கயிறு, in the astrological circles, in no one of which should both be found. 1. இரச்சு, in lines drawn across the circles in any one of which, both persons should not be found. தசப்பொருத்தம்--செய்யுட்பொருத்தம், s. mṇm (p. 341) s. Nuptials, marriage, wedding, wedlock, கலியாணம். (சது.) 2. [fig.] Better circumstances, நலம். அஷ்டமணம். Eight kinds of marriage: 1. பிரமம், marriage of a virgin to a bachelor; 2. பிரசாபத்தியம், marriage by mutual consent of the relations; the girl having been solicited by the friends of the bridegroom; 3. ஆரிடம், the gift of a girl in marriage; her relations receiving as a present one or two cows, or bullocks; or according to some, the girl is placed between a cow and a bullock with gilded horns and hoofs, and the ceremony is comfirmed by the pouring of water; 4. தெய்வம், marriage of a girl bestowed by a deity in recompense for a sacrifice offered by her father; or, as some say, marriage in the presence of a sacrifice.--Note. These four are performed before the god of fire, as a witness; 5. காந்தருவம், marriage by the mutual consent of the individuals themselves; without consulting friends, or having a marriage ceremony; 6. ஆசுரம், marriage in which the bridegroom furnishes the bride with jewels, and pays her friends the sum which they demand for her.--Note. Some authorities mention certain heroic or athletic explcits as the price to be paid. 7. இராக்கதம், marriage in which the girl is taken by force, without her own consent or that of her friends; 8. பைசாசம், marriage in which a girl is forced when asleep, or in a state of insensibility. மணமும்பிணமும் போகிறவீதியிலிருந்துபேசுகி றேன். I assert it in a street where weddings and funerals pass; a strong asseveration. மணக்கோலம், s. Marriage-attire or costume. 2. See கோலம். மணப்பந்தல், s. A marriage-shed erected and adorned for the wedding. மணப்பறை, s. Drumming at a marriage--oppos. to பிணப்பறை. மணப்பொருத்தம், s.
