nāḷ (p. 275) s. [Gen. நாளின், acc. நாளை, poet. நாளினை.] A day of twenty-four hours, a natural day, from sun rise to sun rise, இராப்பகல்கொண்டபொழுது. 2. Time in general, காலம். 3. An auspicious day, பெரு நாள். 4. A lunar asterism. See நட்சத்தி ரம். (c.) 5. A lunar or astrological day; the period of the moon's passage through an asterism, சந்திரனாள். 6. The name of a metrical foot of the class. அசைச்சீர். 7. adj. New, as நாட்பூ--Note. In combination, the last letter is changed by rule. நாளொருவண்ணமும்பொழுதொருமேனியுமாய்வளர் ந்துவிட்டது. It has grown every day and every hour. நாள்வாய்பெறினும். Even in the early part of the day. (p.) இதுஅதுக்குநாளல்ல. This is not the proper time or season. நாடோறும், adv. [for நாள்தோறும்.] Daily. 2. Always. நாட்கடத்த--நாள்கடத்த, inf. To pass away time, நாள்கழிக்க. 2. To put off from day to day. நாட்கணக்கு, s. Daily accounts. 2. The term, or appointed end of one's life, வாழ்நாளின்முடிவு. நாட்கழிவு--நாள்கழிவு. v. noun. The passing of time. 2. Deduction of days in payment. நாட்காரியம், s. A thing of urgent necessity to be done on an auspicious day. நாட்கால், s. [prov.] The first post of the wedding shed, or of a new building, set up on an auspicious day, மணப்பந்த ருக்குமுதனாட்டுங்கால். நாட்குறிக்க, inf. To appoint a day. நாட்கூலி, s. Old wares or commodities. நாட்பட்டமரம். An old tree. நாட்பார்க்க--நாள்பார்க்க, inf. To find an auspicious day. நாட்பூ--நாண்மலர், s. A new-blown flower. (poetic.) நாட்பொருத்தம், s. Agreement of the lunar constellations in the horoscope of persons to be united in marriage. See தசப்பொருத்தம். 2. One of the ten things in the choice of the first word of a poem. See செய்யுட்பொருத்தம். 3. The class of lunar mansion connected with one's nacshatra, நாளினன்மை. நாளறுதி, s. Expiration of a term. 2. From time to time, gradually, நாள்வட்டம். நாளாக, inf. To pass one's days, to support one's self, commonly with difficulty. நாள்தொலைய-நாள்போக, inf. To expire as days. நாள்தோறும். mṇm (p. 341) s. Nuptials, marriage, wedding, wedlock, கலியாணம். (சது.) 2. [fig.] Better circumstances, நலம். அஷ்டமணம். Eight kinds of marriage: 1. பிரமம், marriage of a virgin to a bachelor; 2. பிரசாபத்தியம், marriage by mutual consent of the relations; the girl having been solicited by the friends of the bridegroom; 3. ஆரிடம், the gift of a girl in marriage; her relations receiving as a present one or two cows, or bullocks; or according to some, the girl is placed between a cow and a bullock with gilded horns and hoofs, and the ceremony is comfirmed by the pouring of water; 4. தெய்வம், marriage of a girl bestowed by a deity in recompense for a sacrifice offered by her father; or, as some say, marriage in the presence of a sacrifice.--Note. These four are performed before the god of fire, as a witness; 5. காந்தருவம், marriage by the mutual consent of the individuals themselves; without consulting friends, or having a marriage ceremony; 6. ஆசுரம், marriage in which the bridegroom furnishes the bride with jewels, and pays her friends the sum which they demand for her.--Note. Some authorities mention certain heroic or athletic explcits as the price to be paid. 7. இராக்கதம், marriage in which the girl is taken by force, without her own consent or that of her friends; 8. பைசாசம், marriage in which a girl is forced when asleep, or in a state of insensibility. மணமும்பிணமும் போகிறவீதியிலிருந்துபேசுகி றேன். I assert it in a street where weddings and funerals pass; a strong asseveration. மணக்கோலம், s. Marriage-attire or costume. 2. See கோலம். மணப்பந்தல், s. A marriage-shed erected and adorned for the wedding. மணப்பறை, s. Drumming at a marriage--oppos. to பிணப்பறை. மணப்பொருத்தம், s. A marriage-contract, a written agreement between the parties marrying; or their parents, on giving their children in marriage. 2. See தசப்பொருத்தம். மணமகன், s. A bridegroom, மணவா ளன். 2. (சது.) A husband, புருஷன். மணமகள், s. A bride, மணவாளி. 2. A wife, மனைவி. மணம்புரிய, inf. To marry. மணவணி, s. Wedding ornaments or decorations; [ex அணி.] (p.) மணவறை, s.
