The daily purification in idol worship, is of five kinds, viz; 1. பூதசுத்தி, cleansing the body, accompained by muntras. 2. ஆத்துமசுத்தி, mental purity by invocations. 3. திரவியசுத்தி, cleaning of the vessels, with attending incantations. 4. இலிங்கசுத்தி, the changing of the flowers, &c., before the idol, by which it is made pure. 5. மந்திரசுத்தி, by muntras repeating the mystic Om, and adding the five lettered நமசிவாய, or salutation to Siva. சுத்திசெய்ய--சுத்திபண்ண, inf. mantiram (p. 343) s. A mystical verse, as a prayer, or form of exorcism. 2. A section of the Vedas including prayers and hymns. See உபநிடதம் and வேதாங்கம். 3. A post set up by sages, with incantations, as an antidote for venomous bites, or for magical purposes. மந்திரஸ்தாபனம், s. Uttering incantations over magical letters, diagrams, &c., to communicate virtue to them. See தாபனம். மந்திரஸ்நானம், s. (lit.) Magical bathing of the sick by sprinkling a few drops of water on the head and repeating magical letters. மந்திரஞ்செபிக்க--மந்திரஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To pronounce a mantra. மந்திரதந்திரம், s.
