A calf in company with a swine will learn to devour filth; i. e. a man will conform to his associates. இதுஅவனாலேகூடும். He is able to do it. இனிஅவன்கூடான். Henceforth, he will be good-for-nothing. இதுகாரியத்துக்குக்கூடும். This will serve the purpose. நடுவழியிலேகூடினான். He met me in the middle of the road. கூடிப்பிரியேல். Break not (old) friendships. (Av.) அமாவாசைகூடிவிட்டது. [prov.] The time of new moon has already come. ஆளோடேகூடிவிட்டான். He has begun to come into society (from obscurity or boyhood). 2. He is convalescent; he is getting around. ஆகக்கூடியதொகை. The total amount. கூடிக்கொள்ள, inf. To band together; to form an association, to take part in, to side with. 2. To meet together, to assemble. 3. To exceed, surpass. 4. To gain strength and vigor. கூடிவர, inf. To accompany. 2. To prosper, succeed. கூடிநாடித்திரிய, inf. To associate or consort with one, to be on terms of close friendship. கூடாநட்பு, s. False friendship. கூடாவுவமை, s. [in rhet.] A simile in which the comparison is made with a thing having only a hypothetical existence, ஓர்உவமையலங்காரம். கூடாவொழுக்கம், s. Immoral conduct --as of anchorets who in secret break their vows. கூடல், v. noun. Approaching, assembling, &c.; seeking, uniting, cohabiting, being possible, &c.--as the verb கூடு. See also கூடல். s. கூடாமை, neg. [v. noun.] Impropriety, indecorum, பொருந்தாமை. 2. Inability, impossibility, impracticability. கூட்டரவு, v. noun. Collection, aggregate, series, பொருட்கூட்டம். 2. Crowd, association, combination. கூட, inf. [adverbially.] Together, in company, collecting together. 2. Even, also; often in composition with உம். 3. More than due, more than enough, too much; additionally. 4. part. With, together with. எல்லாருங்கூடவாருங்கள். Come all together. குருவுக்குக்கூடப்பயப்படான். He is not afraid even of his guru. அவன்வீட்டிலேதண்ணீர்கூடக்குடியார்கள்.... They will not drink even water in his house--said in disparagement. நான்கூடஅறியேன். I also know it. அவனுக்குக்கூடக்கொடுத்துப்போட்டீர். You have given him too much. ஐந்துரூபாய்கூடத்தந்தார். He gave five rupees in addition. என்கூடவா. Come with me. கூடிய--கூடின, rel. part. Practicable, possible, convenient, proper, &c. என்னாற்கூடியபணிவிடைக்குக்காத்திருக்கிறேன். I am ready to do any service in my power. கூடியமட்டும்--கூடியமாத்திரம். As far or as much as possible; as much as one is able; to the utmost. கூடும். It is possible, proper, fit, practicable, lawful, &c. கூடாது. It is impossible, impracticable, inconvenient, improper, unlawful, unfit, &c. 2. Note to be done--either as command or an entreaty--according to the manner and tone of the speaker. கால்கைகூடாது. My hands and feet are worn out; i. e. with hard work. என்னாற்கூடாது. I cannot; I will not. கூடாதகாரியம். An impossible thing. கூடலர்--கூடார், s. Enemies, foes, aliens, பகைவர். 26)

coṭṭu (p. 210) s. A tap or knock with the end of the fingers on one's head, or with the beak of a crow, குட்டு. (Telugu usage.) 2. A drop, துளி. 3. [prov.] A small piece, slice, துண்டு. 4. (also சொட்டை.) Defect, blemish, stigma, &c., குற்றம். (c.) கள்ளிச்சொட்டுப்போலே. Milk as thick as that of the prickly pear. சொட்டுச்சொட்டாயிறங்க. To fall in drops. என்வேலைக்கொருசொட்டா. Can you point out a defect in my work? சொட்டுவைக்க, inf. To give a tap on one's head. சொட்டுப்போட, inf. To give a slap. 2. To disparage one's character. வட்டுவத்தின்மேல்சொட்டுப்போட்டால்வட்டுவ த்திற்குமாத்திரமாபடும். Will the slap on the betel-pouch affect that only, or also what it contains; i. e. if one member of a family suffers, will not others be affected? சொட்டுச்சொட்டென்றொழுக, inf. To drizzle, fall in drops. சொட்டுத்தண்டம், s. [prov.] A contribution made unwillingly, through the influence of others. சொட்டுச்சொல்--சொட்டைச்சொல், s. A jest. 2. A stigma. சொட்டுப்பால், s. [prov.] Thick milk, chiefly of the cocoa-nut. சொட்டுமூத்திரம், s. Strangury in children. (c.) தேங்காய்ச்சொட்டு, s. [prov.] A slice or thin piece of cocoa-nut kernel. 24)

Dha'ran'a.) நவதாரணை, The nine classes of things; existing or established by art; 1. நாமதாரணை, names appellations. 2. வச் சிரதாரணை,(probably) terms of architecture. 3. மாயாதாரணை, things formed by மாயை, as words, appearance of things created. 4. சித்திரதாரணை, paintings or sculpture. 5. செய்யுட்டாரணை, poems, poetry, compositions. 6. நிறை வு குறைவாகிய எண்பொருட்டாரணை, perhaps abstract numbers. 7. சத்ததாரணை, contrivance for the formation or modulation of sounds, as bells, musical instruments. 8. வஸ்துதாரணை, productions of art in general. 9. சதுரங்கதாரணை, a complete army of four kinds of forces. (See சதுரங்கம்.) II. The nine forms of worship practised by the Saiva Yogis. Their classification is: 1. நாமதாரணை, the worship of the Omnipresent God in the form of an image, to which is given his name. அளவிடப்படாதபிர மத்தைநாமத்தினால்வரையறைப்படுத்தல். 2. மாயாதா ரணை, worshipping the Supreme Being, who is unlimited, and without form, by the use of he formule, Maha Vakya (the great speech), accompanied by the entire renunciation of the world. This accords with the practice of the Adwita class of Vedantists, விகாரங்களில்லாதபாமரன் மாவினிடத்தில்புனைந்துரைக்கப்பட்ட பிரபஞ்சவியா பாரமாயையைத்துறப்பதற்குக்கருவியானமகாவாக்கியத் தைப்பொளுணர்ச்சியோடுஉச்சரித்தல். 3. பேததார ணை, an exercise of the Yogi to restrain his bodily affections, by uniting the vital air in the heart, பிராணன், in the podex, அபானன், in the body generally, வியானன், and in the throat, உதானன், these four, with that in the navel, சமானன்; and thus with the inward recital of the mystic O'm, to alter the position of his heart, supposed to be like a lotus flower with eight petals hanging downwards, பலமுறைஇயமாதிகள்செய்து, பிராணன், அபாணன், வியானன், உதானன் என்கிறவாயுக் களைச்சமானவா யுவுடனேசேர்த்து, கீழ்முகமாயிருக்கிற உள்ளக்கமலத் தைமேல்முகமாக்குகை, 4. மந்திரதாரணை, worshipping Siva by the famous five lettered incantation, நமசிவாய--rejecting the mystic O'm--ascribing to him the supremacy, and recognizing the universe as only the manifestation of Siva. Such as do this reject the primitive system, and believe in an all pervading soul of the universe, called Siva, எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் அதிஷ் டானமாய்எவையுமாகிறவன்சிவனேயென்று, பௌ ராணிகமந்திரங்களால்சிவத்தியானஞ்செய்தல். 5. சது ரங்கதாரணை, meditating on the Supreme Being, as one who having purified himself, and suspended his breath, unites the faculties of the mind with the four constituents of the body--earth, water, fire and wind--in the cavity of the crown of the head. This is done when the reason represented by fire; reflection by the wind; the will by water, are joined with resolution or passion, represented by earth, and all co-operate to fix the mind in the air, the seat of Brahma, காய சோதனம்பண்ணுகிறவன் நிலம், நீர், தீ, கால் என் னுஞ்சதுரங்கமாகிய அகங்காரசித்த புத்திமனசென்கிற வைகளைமுறையாக அடக்கி, பின்பு கால்வடிவானம னசை ஆகாயமாகியபிரமத்தானத்தில் சேரும்படிதியா னித்தல். 6. சத்ததாரணை, continual meditation of an ascetic in an immoveable posture, uttering the sounds of அ, உ, ம், or O'm. which represent the deity. This is done while closing the eyes and restraining all the external senses. By the mystic syllable, the வாதநாடி pulse is said to be purified, and its pulsation may be beard. (See கும் பகம்.) பிரமத்தையுணர்த்துகிற பிரணவத்தைத்தியான தாரணசமாதிகளால்அடைந்து, புறக்காணச்செய்கை யற்று, கும்பகத்தானமானவாதநாடியைச்சுத்திபண் ணி, நாதானுசந்தானத்தையடைதல். 7. வஸ்துதார ணை, the mental perception of Brahm, obtained by the firm power of thought, separated from external things, which unites the reason with the will, These combined, produce action or passion, Passion, reason and will are condensed in reflection, by which Brahm is perceived, பிறபொருளையடையாமல்அசைவற்றிருக்கிற மனமானதுபுத்தி, சித்தம், அகங்காரங்கள்மூன்றையு முறையேசேர்த்துக்கொண்டபின், அம்மனத்தால்பிரம த்தைத்தரித்தல். 8. வச்சிரதாரணை, rendering homage to Siva only in the Lingam. rejecting the lower positions which represent Brahma and Vishnu; and renouncing passion, and the corporeal senses, contemplating the divine essence with a fixed mind, பிரமன்வடிவாகியபீடத் தையும், திருமால்வடிவாகியவிவரத்தையும்நீக்கி, இலி ங்கத்தைமாத்திரம்பூசித்தல்என்றால்--அகங்காரத்தை யுஞ்சீவத்துவத்தையும்துறந்து, பரத்துவத்தையேதியா னித்தலாம், 9. சித்திரதாரணை, becoming ripe for absorption and approaching assimilation to the deity, by gaining a knowledge of the twenty-six properties of the body, the soul, and the Supreme Being (ஷட்விம்சகபாவம்). This is obtained by entirely forgetting the austerities practised, repeating continually the மகா வாக்கியம், solely contemplating the benefit to be derived, and then renouncing even that; the soul thus dominates over the immerging principle, arrives at a pure, spiritual knowledge and is merged in the Divinity, சத்தஉச்சரிப்பா லாகியமந்திரப்பிரயோகத்தைநீக்கி, பொருளையே ம னதில் அனுசந்தானம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, ஷட்விம் சகபாவத்தையடைந்து, பிராரப்தம் என்கிற கர்மபயன் களைமறந்து, சத்தார்த்தங்களையும்விட்டு, அறிவுமயமாயே இருத்தல். 32) *

niluvai (p. 277) s. That which is left in hand, remainder or balance due, out-standing debts, arrears either of money or goods; [ex நில், stand.] (c.) உன்மேலேநிலுவையெம்மாத்திரம். What is the balance due by you? நிலுவைக்கணக்கு, s. Account of arrears. நிலுவைக்காரர், s. [pl.] Debtors. நிலுவைக்கு, adv. On trust, on credit. நிலுவைக்கில்லை. [in astron.] The setting of a planet, the heliacal setting of a planet, அஸ்தமனம்; [ex படு, v.]--In some combinations it is doubled as பாட்டாளி, பாட் டிலே, &c. அதிலேபாடில்லை. No trouble or no loss. பாடுவந்தாற்றாங்கமாட்டேன். If damage come, I will not bear it. இதுஉடன்பாடுதான். This is your duty. பாடெம்மாத்திரம். How much waste? (by melting. &c.) அவரவர்பாட்டிலேபோங்கள். Let each one go to his work. ஒருபாடு. One side. தன்பாடாய். By his own exertions. இன்றைக்குமீன்பாடில்லை. To-day there is no fish. பாடாக, inf. To suffer injury; to perish, கெட. பாடாயடிக்க, inf. To beat severely. பாடாயழிய, inf. To be seriously damaged, to be ruined. பாடாய்முடிய, inf. To turn out disastrously. பாடாய்விழ, inf. To have a dangerous fall. 2. [prov.] A very heavy or severe blow, a loss; confinement to a couch from a severe injury, மிகுபாடு. பாடாவிதி, s. Troublesomeness, distress, disaster, கெடுவிதி; [ex விதி, fate.] (Beschi.) காரியம்பாடாவிதியாய்முடிந்தது. The thing ended unhappily. பாடுகாட்டிவிழ, inf. To lean or fall on one side, through weakness. பாடுகாயம்--பாடானகாயம், s. A mortal wound, as படுகாயம். பாடுசேதம், s. Loss, waste in measuring or melting metals, &c. பாடுபட, inf. To suffer, to endure hardship, pain, trouble. 2. To take pains, to labor hard, to try, to endeavor. பாடுபடவிதித்தாயோதெய்வமே. O, God! hast thou doomed me to suffer thus? பாடுபடுத்த, inf. What is allowed to brahmans, or held free by them. பிரமதானம்--பிரமஸ்தானம், s. The inmost recess in a temple where the chief idol is placed, as கர்ப்பக்கிரகம். பிரமதேவன், s. The god Brahma, the Creator or Evolver of worlds. பிரமத்துவம், s. The divine nature, கட வுட்டன்மை. பிரமநிருவாணம், s. Union with the deity, கடவுளுடனொன்றுகை. பிரமபதம்--பிரமபதவி, s. The world of Brahma, an inferior state of bliss. பிரமபுத்திரம், s. The river, Brahmaputra, ஓர்நதி. பிரமபுத்திரி, s. The Sarasvati river, சரஸ்வதியாறு. 2. The goddess Sarasvati, சரஸ்வதி. பிரமபுரம், s. Seehali, a town in Southern India on the northern bank of the Cavery, சீகாழி. பிரமபுராணம், s. Puranas which teach that Brahma is the chief deity. In the celebrated eighteen there are two of this class. the பிரமம், and the பதுமம். (சது.) பிரமப்பிரளயம், s. The deluge at the end of the life of Brahma, பிரமனாயுள்முடி வில்வரும்பிரளயம். பிரமமணம், s. A goblin or savage animated by the soul of a brahman, who in a former birth died with unexpiated sin. பிரமராட்சதி-பிரமராட்சதை, s. The ghost of a brahmani who having died a violent death appears in the form of a demon, inhabiting trees and possessing all the knowledge previously obtained, பார்ப் பாரப்பெண்பேய். பிரமலிபி, s. The writing of Brahma in the forehead of all persons before birth; fate, destiny. See தலைஎழுத்து. பிரமலிபிதப்பாது. The writing of Brahma will not fail. பிரமலோகம், s. The world and heaven of Brahma, being the seventh and highest of the seven upper worlds, also called சத்தியலோகம். (சது.) பிரமவமிசம், s. Lineage in succession from Brahma. 2. The race of brahmans, பிராமணசாதி. பிரமவாதம், s. The religious tenets of the Vedas considered systematically, வேதமதம். பிரமவித்து, s. One of the four grades of those who pursue a true and perfect knowledge of the deity, நால்வகைமுத்தரி லொருவன். பிரமவிந்து--பிரமபிந்து. s. The seed, or progeny of a brahman, &c., பிராமணவிந்து. 2. A letter which is the origin of all letters, and the prime root of all prayers and incantations, மூலவெ ழுத்து. பிரமாண்டம், s. The system of worlds, as created by Brahma, உலகம். 2. One of the eighteen Puranas, பதினெண்புரா ணத்தொன்று. 3. [fig.] That which is large, gigantic, huge, colossal, காத்திரம். (usage.) பிரமாண்டநாயகன், s. Lord of the universe, கடவுள். 2. An epithet used in praise, or compliment, சக்கரவர்த்தி. பிரமாத்திரம்--பிரமாஸ்திரம், s. A famous arrow of supernatural qualities, given by Brahma to some, who had practised extraordinary austerities. பிரமாந்தரம், s. Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, உயிர்நிலை. பிரமாயு, s. The age of Brahma, as பிர மகற்பம்; [ex ஆயு.] பிரமாயுதம், s. A number, one million, பத்திலட்சம். (சது.) பிரமாரண்ணியம், s. The name of a town called வேதாரண்ணியம். பிரமாலயம், s. The house of a brahman. பிரமானந்தம், s. Heavenly bliss, or felicity, as பரமானந்தம். பிரமோத்தரகாண்டம், s. A brahamani who has lost her husband must shave her head; or her hair, adding to her beauty, will entice men, and so be a cord to bind her husband in hell. மொட்டைப்புத்தி, s. Stupidity, bluntness of intellect. மொட்டைமாடு, s. [also மோழை.] A cow, or any of the genus bos without horns. மொட்டையடிக்க, inf. To shave the head entirely, as the widows of brahmans, and of the கோமுட்டி caste. 2. To shave the head of a criminal, as a punishment. மொட்டையாய்ப்போக, inf. To become blunt. மொட்டையாய்வெட்ட, inf.
