A medicine composed of eight metals: 1. பொன், gold. 2. வெள்ளி, silver. 3. செம்பு, copper. 4. இரும்பு, iron. 5. வெண்கலம், white copper. 6. தரா, brass. 7. வங்கம், lead. 8. துத்தநாகம், zinc, with different salts and vegetable juices; the whole prepared by fire and reduced to powder to be used in various diseases. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், s. uḷai (p. 67) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To ache or suffer pain in the limbs from weariness, cold, rheumatism, நோவ. 2. To gripe, suffer pain--as persons with dysentery, வயிறுளைய. 3. To ache--as the gums in teething, பல்லுவலிக்க. 4. To suffer--as in bringing forth young, சூலுளைய. 5. To suffer either in mind, or body; to be in a state of suffering, வருந்த. In most of the meanings, a dragging or moving pain is implied. உனக்குமுதுகுளைகிறதா? Does your back ache? i. e. why do you behave so as to incur punishment? உளைந்துளைந்துபேச, inf. To express regret again and again from revolving in mind an injury received. மூக்குளைய, inf. To ache--as the nose. இடுப்புளைய, inf. To feel pain in the hips-as in child-bearing, or as persons in some diseases, or after a long walk. மனமுளைய, inf. To be pained in mind from unkind conduct or expressions. கால்கையுளைய, inf. To suffer pain in the arms and legs. வாயுளைய, inf. To be tired as the mouth by constant talking. வாயுளையுமளவுமலட்டினான். He chattered till his mouth ached. வயிறுளைய, inf. To suffer as in bringing forth young. 2. To suffer with dysentery. குடவளையினங்கள்வயிறுளைந்தீன்றகுருமணி. The bright pearls produced from the round conchs-- (நைட.) உளைமாந்தை, s. [vul.] An internal imposthume, கடுநோய். உளைவு, v. noun. Griping pain, throbbing, வலிப்பு. 2. Hard pain in the limbs, &c.--as from rheumatism, weariness, cold, &c., குடைவு. உளைவுகொள்ள, inf. To ache--as the limbs, with weariness, &c., வலிப்புற. உளைவெடுக்க, inf. To be attacked with griping, or rheumatic pains, வலிப் பெடுக்க. காலுளைவுகையுளைவு, s. Pains in the limbs--as from walking, labor, &c. பல்லுளைவு, s. ūtu (p. 69) கிறேன், ஊதினேன், வேன், ஊத, v. a. To blow--as with the mouth, to blow the fire, to puff and blow--as with hard labor, வாயாலூத. 2. To blow a musical instrument--as a trumpet, துளைக்கருவியி சைக்க. 3. To blow with a bellows, a blowpipe, &c., துருத்திமுதலியவற்றாலூத. 4. To gnaw or bore holes--as a beetle, to injure--as a moth, வண்டுமுதலியவூத. 5. v. n. To be puffed up with wind, to be inflated, வீங்க. 6. To be bloated, swollen--as the belly after eating, to swell or puff up--as a corpse, or carcass in water, &c., சரீரம்வீங்க. 7. To blow softly--as wind, காற்றுநொய்தாய்வீச. 8. To blow--as bees, beetles, &c., in getting out honey from flowers, வண்டிரைய. அவன்முகம்ஊதிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. His face is swollen. உடலூதியிருக்கின்றது. The stomach is puffed up with wind. ஊதிடுகொம்பு--ஊதுகொம்பு, s. A horn used as a trumpet. ஊதிப்பார்க்க, inf. To try a windinstrument. 2. To attempt a cure by enchantment consisting in part of blowing into the patient's body. ஊதிப்போக, inf. To be puffed up. ஊதிப்போட--ஊதிவிட, inf. To blow away, blow out, extinguish. ஊதினபொன், s. Refined gold, gold refined in the fire. வண்டூதினபுடைவை, s. A garment injured by insects, moths. வண்டூதினமரம், s. A timber or beam gnawed or pierced by beetles. வண்டூதினவோலை, s. An ola book, &c., eaten by insects. அந்தூதினநெல், s. Insect-eaten rice. ஊதுகட்டி, s. [vul.] Silver of the purest kind, சொக்கவெள்ளி. ஊதுகரப்பன், s. A kind of disease resulting from bad humors in the system and attended with eruptions. ஊதுகாமாலை, s. A kind of jaundice in which the body swells. ஊதுகுழல், s. A pipe, a gold smith's blow-pipe. ஊதுமா, s. A kind of hastypudding. ஊதுமாந்தம், s. A disease of children, ஓர்நோய். ஊதுமுகம், s. A bloated face. ஊதுவழலை, s. A kind of snake. ஊதுவிரியன்--ஊதுபாம்பு, s. A kind of viper, ஓர்பாம்பு. எக்காளமூத, inf. To sound a trumpet. 58)

ūṟu (p. 71) கிறது, ஊறினது, ம், ஊற, v. a. To spring, flow as water in a well, to issue, நீரூற. 2. To soak, to be steeped, pickled, காய்முதலியவூற. 3. To ooze through, percolate, filter, distil, கசிய. 4. To run or spread--as ink in paper, as dampness in land around a spring; to become moist, மைமுதலியவூற. 5. To form, become collected--as milk in the breast, toddy in palm flowers, &c., பால்முதலியனசுரக்க. 6. To form as raw flesh in a sore, to heal, காயத்திலூன்வளர. 7. To increase--as flesh in a person who has been wasted by disease, to increase by slow degrees, மெலி ந்தவுடல்தேற. (c.) தொட்டளைத்தூறுமணற்கேணிமாந்தர்க்குக் கற்றனைத் தூறுமறிவு. The more you dig in a sandy soil the more does the water spring forth; so the more you apply to science the more your knowledge will increase. கற்கவூறுங்கலைஞானம். By learning, knowledge is increased. இறைத்தகிணறூறும்இறையாக்கிணறூறாது. Water issues from the springs of a well constantly drawn, but from one not drawn, it ceases to do so; i. e. the more one gives, the more will be given to him. ஊறணி, s. A fountain, a spring of water, ஊற்று. 2. [prov.] Good, moist land where water oozes out, கசிவுநிலம். 3. Wet, marshy, or brackish lands, சேற்று நிலம். 4. Income, property stored up, வருவாய் (probably a corruption of ஊ றுநீர்). ஊறவூறக்கறக்க, inf. To milk the cow as fast as the milk forms. 2. To obtain money from a person as fast as he gets it. ஊறவைக்க, inf. To steep, pickle, imbue, macerate. ஊறுகாய், s. Pickled fruits, அடை காய். ஊறுநீர், s. Spring-water, ஊற்று நீர். ஊறுபுண், s. A healing wound, ஆறிவரும்புண். தேனூறுமலர், s. The honey forming flower. ஊறல், v. noun. Oozing as from a sore, &c., percolation, discharge, issue, ஊறுகை. 2. s. A small spring, springwater, ஊற்று. 3. A tincture, infusion, &c., மருந்திலூறல். 4. A taint, or faint mixture of another metal, பஞ்சலோகக்கலப்பு. 5. One's income acquisition, property amassed, &c., வருவாய். 6. A slight degree of verdigris, களிம்பு. ஊறற்பாக்கு, s. Betel-put soaked to render it fit for use. ஊறற்றாள், s. Sinking paper.

ēmā (p. 79) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be proud, haughty, inflated, selfconceited, sprightly; to strut, to be stiff in gait, செருக்குற. 2. to be exhilerated, to be overjoyed, to exult, to be in an extacy, to experience the highest delight, மிகக் களிக்க. (p.) ஏமாந்தபோழ்தின். When exalted in prosperity. (நாலடி.) எனக்கெனக்கென்றென்றேமாந்திருந்தகாவலரைநோ க்கி. Addressing the kings who were greatly elated. each one hoping to get the damsel. (பாரத.) ஏமாந்தகொங்கை, s. Full, prominent breasts. ஏமாப்பு, v. noun. Pride, self-conceit, insolence, elation, செருக்கு. 2. Exhileration, spiritual joy, highest happiness, மிகக்களிப்பு. 3. To conceive, to be impregnated, to fecundate--as brutes of vegetables, to fill-as clouds with water, கருப்பங்கொள்ள. கருக்கொண்டமேகம், s. A teeming cloud. கருத்தங்க, inf. To be conceived, to be formed--as conception, கருப்பந்தங்க. கருத்தரிக்க, inf. To conceive, to be impregnated--as animals in general. கருத்தெரியாதவன், s. An unwise man. கருநூல், s. A treatise on enchantment. கருப்பை, s. The matrix, the womb. கருப்பொருள், s. The second class of பொருள், which treats of the beings, things, &c., peculiar to different countries. They are of fourteen kinds from gods down to the employments of men, அந்தந்தநிலங்களைச்சார்ந்தபொருள். See பொருள். கருமாரி, s. Extremity, difficulty in child-birth, பிரசூதவேதனை. கருமாரிப்பட்டை, s. A bark used medicinally in difficult child-birth. கருவழிக்க, inf. To destroy the f&oe;tus, to cause abortion, கருப்பமழிக்க. கருவழிய, inf. To perish--as the f&oe;tus, to miscarry, to suffer abortion. கருவழிவு, v. noun. miscarriage, abortion, கருப்பஅழிவு. கருவறிய, inf. To come to years of discretion. கருவறிந்தவன்--கருவாளி--கருவு ள்ளவன், s. An ingenious person, a genius, ஊகித்தறிபவன். கருவறுக்க, inf. To exterminate a family, &c., to ruin one's property,அடி யோடுகெடுக்க. கருவாமுப்பு, s. Salt-petre, வெடி யுப்பு. கருவிரிய, inf. To ear, to shoot into ears, கதிர்விரிய. கருவிரிந்தபயிர், s. The earing corn. கருவுயிர்க்க, v. n. To bring forth young either human or brute, ஈன. கருவுளமைப்பு, s. The six things incident to sentient beings on assuming corporeal forms, கருவில்நியமிப்பு, viz.: 1. பெறுதல் or பேறு, getting, gain. 2. இழத்தல் or இழவு, losing or loss. 3. இன் பம், pleasure. 4. பிணி or இடையூறு, disease, affliction, mishap, &c. 5. மூப்பு, old age. 6. சாக்காடு, death. To these some add பிரித்தல், separation, removal to a distance; and பிரிவிலாதிருக்கை, continued association. கருவெடுக்க, inf. Actions of a previous birth, good or evil, entailed on the soul and resulting in the enjoyments and sufferings of the present or a future state, fate, destiny, முன்வினை. 3. Business, profession, occupation, attempt, essay, enterprise, தொழில். 4. Religious rites, duties, &c., stated, periodical, or otherwise, according to the rules of the shasters; moral duty, specific action, duty, obligation imposed by peculiarities of tribe or occupation, &c., வைதீகக்கிரியை. 5. [in grammar.] The object of actions, செயப்படுபொருள். 8. Magical enchantment of eight kinds, அஷ்டகருமம். (1.) வசியம். getting a person into one's own power, influence, &c. (2.) மோகனம், libidinous fascinations. (3.) தம்பனம், stopping, checking, restraining the powers of fire, the flowing of water, the ferocity of wild beasts, &c., making a spirit or person stand immovable in a place and depriving him on the power of speech, &c. (4.) உச்சா டனம், setting demons against one to ruin him by magical incantations, or dislodging them from persons or places. (5.) ஆகருட ணம், summoning or invoking a spirit or absent person visibly into one's presence. (6.) வித்துவேடணம், excitment to hatred. (7.) பேதனம், causing separation, dissension, discord. Knowledge and skill religious exercise and ceremonies. கருமத்தலைவர், s. Royal fortunetellers, astrologers, conjurers, foretellers of future events, வருங்காரியஞ்சொல்வோர். கருமத்தலைவன், s. a superntendent. 2. A minister, அரசர்க்குத்துணைவன். கருமத்துரோகம், s. Treachery, treason, villainy துரோகஞ்செய்யல். கருமநிவிர்த்தி, s. Ceremonies performed to expiate the evil deeds of former births in times of disease, &c. கருமபந்தம்--கருமபந்தனம், s. The tie or vinculum, கருமபாசம், Which connects the actions of a former birth with their fruits in after transmigrations. Wils. p. 198. KARMMABANTHANA. கருமபாகை, s.
