To cast a garland at random to ascertain the successor to a deceased king by its falling on the person; or sometimes, the destined husband for a king's daughter. In choosing a king, an elephant sometimes throws the garland. மாலைசூட, inf. To adorn with a garland. மாலைநுழைஞ்சான், appel. n. A dark bird with white breast which nestles in the sand at dusk, ஓர்குருவி. மாலைநேரம், s. The evening time. மாலைபோட, inf. To put a garland on one's neck. 2. [fig.] To choose a husband. மாலைப்பண், s. A kind of tune, an evening song, அந்தியிற்பாடும்பண். மாலைப்பதநீர், s. [com. மாலைப்பதனி.] Palmyra sap taken in the evening. மாலைமசங்குகிறநேரம், s. The dusk of evening. மாலைமாற்று, v. noun. Exchange of garlands. 2. A peculiar species of verse, ஓர்சித்திரகவி. மாலையணி, s. Ornaments of wreaths, garlands and flowers. 2. A rhetorical figure, ஓரலங்காரம். மாலையாங்காலம், s. [prop. மாலைக்காலம்.] Evening, மாலைநேரம். (usage.) மாலையீடு, v. noun. [inf. மாலையிட.] Casting of a flower garland by a lady, on the person of her choice, மாலையிடுகை. 2.
