அமுக்கு
amukku (p. 20) கிறேன், அமுக்கினேன், வேன், அமுக்க, v. a. To crush, press or squeeze, as a fruit, a boil, &c., அமுத்த. 2. Press down, press in or under, as a vessel into water, immerse, depress, press down or in, indent by pressure, அமிழ்த்த. 3. (fig.) To oppress, நெருக்க. நீரிலேசெம்பையமுக்கிமொண்டுவா. Sink the brass pot in the water, draw it up, and bring it. அமுக்கு, v. noun. Compression, depression, oppression as by nightmare, pressure as by the hand of the bailiff, அழுத்துகை. 2. That which compresses, depresses, &c., an incumbent weight, அமுக்குபாரம். அமுக்குண்டு கதறிக்கொண்டுகிடந்தான், He lay crying out, prostrate under the burden. அமுக்கன், s. ஆற்று
āṟṟu (p. 43) கிறேன், ஆற்றினேன், வேன், ஆற்ற, v. a. To cool, refresh, குளிரச்செய்ய. 2. To assuage, appease, alleviate, soothe, console, compose, lull, mitigate, தணிக்க. 3. To slack, loosen what is tied or twisted, முறுக்குத்தளர்த்த. (c.) 4. (p.) To do, act, perform a duty, செய்ய. 5. To bear a weight, தாங்க. 6. To carry, or sustain a burden or calamity, பொறுக்க.--Note. This verb is sometimes used impersonally--as இந்த வழியென்னாலேயாற்றாது. I cannot get along this road. ஆற்ற, inf. [used adverbially.] Greatly, exceedingly, மிகுதியாய். அமிழ்தினுமாற்றவினிதே. Sweeter than nectar. (குறள்.) கணவராற்றமுனிந்தே. The husbands greatly resenting. ஆற்றாக்கேடு, s. Extreme poverty, indigence exigence, great necessity. ஆற்றாச்சண்டி, s. One who perversely persists in application for aid through poverty, one past shame, an insatiable wretch. ஆற்றாத்தனம், s. Insatiableness. ஆற்றாப்பட்சம், s. What cannot be borne, intolerableness--as ஆற்றாமை. ஆற்றாமை, neg. v. noun. Inability to bear--as excessive hunger, pain, &c., சகிக்கக்கூடாமை. 2. Impatience, பொறா மை. 3. Voracity, voraciousness, insatiableness, திருத்தியின்மை. ஆற்றார், s. Foes, opponents, rivals, those who envy one, பகைவர். 2. The poor, the afflicted, தரித்திரர். (p.) ஆற்றிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To cool and give. 2. To help or relieve one at work. ஆற்றித்தேற்ற, inf. To soothe and console. ஆற்றிப்போற்றிக்கொள்ள, inf. To treat guests with civility, விருந்தினரை யுபசரிக்க. 2. To render aid--as to a sick person, to help one in distress, துன்புற்றோ ரைக்காக்க. 3. To console, ஆற்ற. ஆற்றுவிக்க, inf. [causal.] To console, cherish, afford consolation, தணி யச்செய்ய. 2. To inspire with courage, வலிதர. 3. To enable to bear, or endure, உறுதிசெய்ய. ஆற்றல், v. noun. Cooling, assuaging, consoling, &c. 2. Enduring, bearing patiently. 3. Bearing a load.

uku (p. 59) கிறது, ந்தது, ம், உக, v. n. To be shaken off, to fall or drop off--as fruits, &c.; to shed feathers, hair; to become separated; to cast off as the nails, &c., உதிர. 2. To be strewed, scattered, poured out, &c., சிந்த. 3. To trickle or fall down--as rain or tears, சொரிய. 4. To be divested of, liberated from, கழல. (p.) நெஞ்சுகவாய்மலரன்னகண்ணீர்மல்க. The heart fainting and the lotus-flower like eyes shedding tears. மஞ்சுகவார்த்தன. The (bells) sounded so loud as to cause the clouds to fall. உள்ளமுடைந்துக்கக்கால். If the heart be broken and utterly fail. (குறள்.) உயிருக. The soul departing. உடுத்திரளுதிர்ந்தெனவுகுவதந்தமே. Teeth scattered as if multitudes of stars had fallen. அங்கணத்துளுக்கவமிழ்து. Delicious food scattered in the mud. (குறள்.) 7)
உய்
uy (p. 63) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To put in motion, cause to go, discharge, let go, let fly, send, emit, cast, throw, செலுத்த. 2. To ride, drive a carriage, &c., வாகனமூர. 3. To effect, accomplish, bring about, collect, gather together, காரியத்தைமுடிக்க. 4. To carry on, conduct literally, or morally, lead an army, &c., to manage, guide, direct, influence, operate, நடத்த. 5. To place, put in, shoot in, throw or cast in, plunge into, அமிழ்த்த. 6. To cause to arrive at, சேர்க்க. 7. To place, வைக்க. 8. To enjoy, experience, அனுபவிக்க. (p.) (குறள்.) உய்த்துச்சொரியினும்போகாதம. That which is apportioned by fate, though rejected, will not leave. (p.) (குறள்.) காதலகாதலறியாமையுய்க்கிற்பின். If (a king) enjoy the objects of his desire, (his foes) being unacquainted with those desires-(குறள்.) உய்த்துணர, inf. To discern, to distinguish, exercise thought, &c., ஆ ராய்ந்தறிய. உய்த்துணரவைப்பு, s. The use of such terms, descriptions, or definitions in a written work, as may require the exercise of thought, reference to other parts, &c., in order to comprehend them, ஆராய்ந்தறியவைக்கை--one of the thirty-two உத்தி in நன்னூல். உய்த்தலில்பொருண்மை, s. Poetry composed in such terms only as are necessary to express the author's meaning, கருதியபொருள்தோன்றப்பாடப்படுவது. உய்ப்பு, v. noun. Discharging, emission, accomplishment, &c., including all the meanings of the verb, உய்க் கை. 25)

tamiẕ (p. 223) s. Sweetness, pleasantness, melodiousness, இனிமை. 2. The tamil language, தமிழ்ப்பாஷை; of which there are two principal divisions, செந்தமிழ், high, or polished Tamil and கொடுந்தமிழ், common, or unpolished Tamil. A further division is இயற்றமிழ், prose, இசைத்தமிழ், poetic, and நாடகத்தமிழ், dramatic Tamil. For particulars, see these in their places. 3. Nature, state, quality, நீர்மை--Note. When used adjectively, ழ் sometimes changes to ழ. தமிழப்பிள்ளை, s. A tamil lad. 2. [vul.] A tamil man. தமிழவண்ணான், s. Washerman of caste people. தமிழன், s. (fem. தமிழச்சி.) A Tamulian. தமிழிலேபழக, inf. To be familiar with the Tamil language. தமிழெல்லை, s. The precincts, frontiers, confines of the Tamil country. தமிழோர், s. (plu.) Tamil poets, the learned, தமிழ்ப்புலவர். (p.) தமிழ்திருப்ப--தமிழ்ப்படுத்த, inf. To translate into Tamil. தமிழ்க்கூத்தர்--தமிழ்கூத்தர், s. Tamil dramatists or dancers. தமிழ்ச்சொல், s. Tamil word. தமிழ்நடை, s. The order, walk, or going of the Tamil language; i. e. its idiom. தமிழ்நாடன், s. Any king of the Pandyan race. தமிழ்நாடு, s. The Tamil country. See திராவிடம். 2. The Madura district. See செந்தமிழ்நாடு. தமிழ்நாவலர், s. Tamil poets. (p.) தமிழ்ப்போங்கு--தமிழ்ப்போக்கு, v. noun. As தமிழ்நடை. தமிழ்மலை, s. Mount Pothiyam, the reputed residence of the sage Agastya, father of the Tamil language. தமிழ்முனி, s. The poet Agastya. தமிழ்மொழியாக்கம், s. The formation of Tamil words. தமிழ்வாணர், s. Tamil poets; (lit.) they in whom classical Tamil lives. தமிழ்வேதம், s. A book of four-thousand parts, நாலாயிரப்பிரபந்தம். 2. The books தே வாரம், and திருவாசகம்; also the குறள், of the poet, திருவள்ளுவர், is so called in eulogy. செந்தமிழ்நாடு, s. The districts where pure Tamil was spoken. See செந்தமிழ். கொடுந்தமிழ்நாடு. s. The twelve districts around the Madura kingdom, in the Tamil of which, irregularities and provincialisms weer found; as stated in the following stanza-தென்பாண்டி, குட்டம், குடம், கற்கா, வேண், பூழி பன்றி, அருவா, அதன்வடக்கு--நன்றாய சீதம், மலாடு, புனனாடு, செந்தமிழ் சேர் ஏதமில் பன்னிரு நாட்டெண். 114)

tu (p. 244) த்தேன், ப்பேன், v. a. (imperfect. used in the past and future.) To eat, take food, make a meal, உண்ண. 2. To enjoy by means of the senses, பொறிகளாலனுபவிக்க. 3. A festive, auspicious or joyous ceremony--as a marriage, putting on jewels; a temple-festival, on a girl's arrival at puberty, &c. மங்கலகீதம்--மங்கலப்பாட்டு, s. Auspicious chants, music, &c. மங்கலகௌசிகம்--மங்களகௌசிகம்-மங்களகௌசிகை, s. A tune, ஓரிராகம். (சது.) மங்கலச்சொல்--மங்கலமொழி, s. Auspicious words, in place of inauspicious terms, fancied to be lucky for speaker or hearer. 2. Language of congratulation, or benediction, ஆசிவசனம். 3. Auspicious terms, together with their synonyms, used for beginning a poem. They are twenty-two in number: 1. திரு, wealth, &c.; 2. யானை, an elephant; 3. தேர், a chariot; 4. பரி, a horse; 5. கடல், the sea; 6. மலை, a mountain; 7. மணி, a gem; 8. பூ, a flower; 9. புகழ், praise; 1. சீர், good state or condition; 11. மதி, the moon; 12. நீர், water; 13. எழுத்து, a letter, a writing; 14. பொன், gold; 15. ஆரணம், Vedas, the law; 16. சொல், a word; 17. புயல், cloud; 18. நிலம், earth; 19. கங்கை, the Ganges; 2. உலகம், the world; 21. பரிதி, the sun; 22. அமிழ்தம், nectar. Others give more. (சது.) மங்கலஸ்நானம்--மங்கலநானம், s. Bathing for an auspicious ceremony, as a marriage, a temple-festival, &c. மங்கலதினம்--மங்கலநாள், s. An auspicious day. மங்கலதூரியம்--மங்கலபேரிகை--மங் கலமுரசு--மங்கலவாத்தியம், s. Auspicious drums and other musical instruments. மங்கலநதி, s. A sacred river. மங்கலநாண், s. The marriage-badge, including the தாலி and its cord. மங்கலபத்திரிகை--மங்கலவோலை, s. A marriage-invitation. மங்கலபாடகர், s. Bards, encomiasts, panegyrists. மங்கலபுருஷன், s. A proper man to conduct a festival, or to communicate good tidings--as one married, not a widower, not deformed, one good tempered, prosperous, &c. மங்கலமங்கையர், s. An auspicious day, commonly Monday or Wednesday, or any day on which there is a favorable configuration of the planets, நல்லநாள். 2. See மங்கலன். மங்கலவார்த்தை, s. Auspicious language, as சுபவசனம். 2. Good news. மங்கலவாழ்த்து, s. Salutation, benediction, praise, especially to a hero in the opening or concluding of a poem. மங்கலவினைஞர், s.
