Those who have applied for protection. அபயகரம்--அபயாஸ்தம்--அபயாத் தம், s. The right hand of a deity, idol or great person raised in token of dispelling fear and in assurance of protection, பயந்தீரவமைக்குங்கை. அபயங்கொடுக்க--அபயஸ்தங்கொ டுக்க, inf. To dispel fear, cheer, encourage, dispel fear by raising the hand or otherwise, to give assurance of protection. See கொடு, v. அபயமிட, inf. To call for succor, cry for protection, appeal as in a suit. See இடு. அபயர், s. Warriors, veterans, போர்வீரர். (p.) அபயவாக்கு, s. Assurance (given) of protection, encouragement, அஞ்சாதே யெனுஞ்சொல். அபயன், s. One who removes fear, அச்சமறுப்போன். 2. ām (p. 39) s. One of the poetic expletives, சாரியை. 2. An expletive, அசைநிலை. 3. A termination of the first person plural, in verbs of both classes, தன்மைப்பன்மைவி குதி. 4. A termination of the plural of verbs embracing the first and second person, உளப்பாட்டுத்தன்மைப்பன்மைவிகுதி. 5. A contraction of ஆகும், used to denote a quotation--as பெரியவனாம், it is said 'he is great.' 6. A contraction of the future of ஆ, in the third person neuter. 7. A particle of assent, yes; it is often doubled --as ஆம் ஆம், written, ஆமாம், and contracted to ஆமா. 8. A particle of comparison, ஓர் உவமவுருபு--as அல்லாங்குழலாள், a woman whose hair is black as darkness. (p.) வந்தாம். We came. பணியுமாமென்றும் பெருமை. Greatness is always humble. நானும் நீயுஞ்சென்றாம். I and you went. ஆங்காலம், s. The season when fortune favors and all things prove successful. ஆந்தனையும்--ஆமளவும். As much as possible. ஆமாறு, s. The proper manner of doing a thing, ஆகுமுறை. (p.) ஆமானவன், s. A worthy, competent respectable person, சிறந்தவன். (c.) ஆம்படி. In the manner which is agreeable to, or sufficient for. ஆம்புத்தி, s. The chief form of the third case, or instrumental ablative--implying cause, agency, instrumentality, expressing by, by means of, with, by way of, in consequence of, மூன்றாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. 2. A poetic expletive, usually annexed to the finite verb, also to nouns, அசைச்சொல். 3. A form of the subjunctive, joined to the gerund, or in poetry, to the finite verb, expressing if, வினையெச்சவிகுதி. 4. An optative termination expressing may, let, &c., வியங்கோள் விகுதி. 5. A negative form of the optative--as அழால், don't weep. 6. A form of affirmation, for yes, ஆமெனல். This definition, though given in Saturagarady and Negundu, is not proved by examples. 7. A form of the third case, expressing each, every, distributively. (p.) நீவந்தால். If you come. நாடாமால். It is a country, or one's native land. ஊராலொருதேவகுலம். A temple in every country. மரீஇ யதோரால். May you know--or know --know you what has happened. வாளால்வெட்டினான். He cut with a sword. அரசனாலாகியமனை. A house built by the king. 6)

iṭṟu (p. 45) கிறேன், இடறினேன், வேன், இடற, v. a. To kick off or away, to sever or strike off a head, a limb, &c., with the foot, a bent bow, &c., பெயர்க்க. 2. v. n. To stumble, trip, strike the foot against, தடக்க. இடறொட்டமெனநெடியவரையுருட்டி. Rolling the towering mountains, as one might dash to pieces a pot-sherd with his feet. (இராமா.) கரடியிடறிவிளையாடுஞ்சுரம். The forest where the bear plays, knocking about (the fruits, &c.) with his feet. பரிகாரர்தலையிடறி. (An elephant) striking off the heads of horsemen. (பெரியபுராணம்.) காலிடறிவிழுந்தான். He stumbled and fell. பகைவரின்தலையையானையின்காலினாலிடறுவித்தான். He caused the heads of the enemies to be struck off, with the foot of an elephant. இடறுகட்டை, s. A stumbling block, hinderance, an obstruction. இடறல், v. noun. Stumbling, tripping. 2. Offence, scandal. இடறற்பட, inf. To take offence, to be offended, be hindered. 76)

imai (p. 47) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To twinkle with the eyes, to wink, இமைகொட்ட. 2. (p.) To coruscate--as the stars, to glitter, emit light, ஒளிசெய்ய. இமையாநாட்டம் பெற்றிலமென்றார். (The terrestrial inhabitants) exclaimed we are not gifted with unwinking eyes (as the gods.) 19)

iḷi (p. 56) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To grin, show the teeth--as in cringing, craving, &c., பல்லிளிக்க. 2. To laugh in a silly manner, to simper, giggle, களகளவெனச்சிரிக்க. 3. v. a. To ridicule, scorn, deride, பரிகாசஞ்செய்ய. 4. To disgrace, contemn, அவமதிக்க. (c.) இளித்தவாய்ப்பட்டம், s. Notoriety for grinning, இளிச்சவாயனெனப்படுகை. 2. The character of a sauntering idler. 3. The state or character of one baffled or defeated in his projects. குரங்குபோலிளித்தவாயன். One who grins like a monkey. பல்லையிளிக்க, inf. To laugh foolishly. இளிச்சற்கண், s. Blear eyes, eyes sore with rheum. இளிப்பு--இளிவு, v. noun. Grinning, simpering, tittering, பல்லிளிக்கை. 2. Ridicule, scorn, derision, இழிவு. 3. Disgrace, நிந்தை. நாயையடித்துப்பல்லிளிவுபார்க்கிறதினாலேயென் ன? What will it avail to strike a dog and then look at its grin? [prov.] எள்ளினிளிவாமென்றெண்ணி. Considering that it would be disrespectful to neglect him. (குறள்.) 8)

ungkrikk (p. 59) --உங்காரிக்க, inf. To reprove, menace, scold, reprehend, அத ட்ட. 2. To utter a kind of grunt in token of disapprobation, உம்மெனவெருள. (p.) 28)

ungkāram (p. 59) s. The utterance of the particle உம், in token of displeasure, or to intimidate another, உம்மெனவெகுள்கை. 2. Menace, reproof, reprehension, roaring, bellowing, அதட்டுகை. Wils. p. 977. (c.) ஒல்லையிற்றருமங்களுக்குடந்தையாய். Uniting at once in fellowship with every virtue. (பாரதம்.) அவனிதற்குடந்தையாளி. He is a partner. 2. He is a joint-heir. 3.
