Lifetime, உறைகாலம். 4. The earth, பூமி. ஊழிபெயரினுங்கலங்காருரவோர். Though the world should come to an end, the sages will not deviate from their purposes. ஊழியுள்ளளவும். Through all eternity, lit. to the end of an age. உனக்கூழிவர. may you die--an imprecation. நீடுழிவாழ்க. May you live long. ஊழிகாலம், s. A very long time, ages without number, நெடுங்காலம். (சத. 2.) ஊழிக்காய்ச்சல், s. An epidemic fever, or pestilence supposed to be produced by a malignant demon, தொத்து சுரம். ஊழிக்காற்று, s. A destructive wind that prevails at the end of the world, யுகமுடிவிலுண்டாகுங்காற்று. 2. A demon, or bad vapor that causes epidemic diseases, pestilence, &c., விஷக்காற்று. ஊழித்தீ, s. The deluge, or submarine fire, usually described as a mare dwelling in the sea and breathing fire, by which, at the end of every quadruple age, the fire is consumed, வட வைத்தீ. ஊழிநீர், s. The water which prevails at the last deluge, described as rain poured down from the seven species of clouds united, also as the water of the circumfluent sea, உலகமுடிவிலுண்டாகுஞ்ச லப்பிரளயம். ஊழிநோய், s. kālam (p. 104) s. Time. duration, பொழுது-Note. In Hindu philosophy, காலம் is said by the Saivas to have proceeded from மோகினி Maya, and to be a co-efficient cause with Siva in the acts of creation, preservation and destruction. It is Time personified, and according to the Hindu metaphysicians, one of the seven வித்தியாத் துவம். (சிவ. சி.) 2. Season of the year or life; also a specific time of the day, பருவம். 3. A seasonable or proper time, opportunity, season, சமயம். Wils. p. 216. KALA. 4. Day-break, விடியல். 5. (fig.) (c.) The time appointed for death, as distinguished from that for accident death, முடிவு. 6. [in gram.] Tense; also, the characteristic of a tense, வினையின்காலம். The three tenses are, இறந்தகாலம், எதிர்காலம், நிகழ்காலம். 7. [in music.] The three measure--as (1.) விளம் பம், slow. (2.) துரிதம், quick. &c. (3.) மத் திமம், the medium. 8. Epoch, era, யுகம். 9. Weather, காலவியல்பு. காலத்துக்குத்தக்ககோலம். Adapting one's self to the times. காலத்துக்குத்தக்கதாய்நடக்க. inf. To live according to circumstances. காலம்போம்வார்த்தைநிற்கும். The price of the articles for the time being; current or market price, காலவிலை. காலக்குறி, s. Signs of the time. காலக்கொடுமை, s. The evils, calamities, &c., of time. காலங்கண்டவன், s. An experienced man; an aged person. காலங்கரந்தபெயரெச்சம், s. [in gram.] A relative participle without the characteristics of the tenses--as in கொல் யானை. காலங்கழிக்க, inf. To pass time கா லம்போக்க. காலங்கழிய, inf. To pass--as time, நாட்கழிய. காலங்கூட, inf. [local.] To die. காலசக்கரம், s. The different number of years of influence ascribed to the respective planets as operative on the lives of persons, ஆயுள்நியதிச்சக்கரம். 2. The aggregate of the years of the nine planets according to their respective influence, கிரகபலச்சக்கரம். 3. Period or term of life, ஆயுட்காலம். Wils. p. 216. KALACHAKRA.. அவனுக்குக்காலச்சக்கரமுடிவுவந்துவிட்டது. The end of his term is come. காலசங்கதி, s. Intelligence, news or events of the time or the day. காலசங்கை, s. Guess of time from mere inspection, காலஉத்தேசம். 2. Reckoning of time, காலக்கணக்கு. (p.) காலசந்தி, s. The daily morning worship; also applicable to that at noon and evening. 2. The interval between any two yugas, kalpas, &c. See கற்பம் and சந்தி. திரிகாலசந்தி, s. Worship in the morning, at noon and in the evening. காலசுகம், s. Favorableness of the time, astrologically and superstitiously considered. காலஞ்செல்ல, inf. To depart this life, to die. 2. [prov.] To be late. காலக்ஷயம்--காலட்சயம், s. Passing one's time or days, காலக்கழிவு. காலக்ஷேபம்--காலட்சேபம் s. Passing one's time or days; circumstances, welfare, &c., காலங்கழிக்கை. 2. Means of subsistence, சீவனம். Wils. p. 216. KALAKSHEPA. 3. Time in reference to the influences of planets upon the fortune, health, &c., of a person. காலநோக்காடு, s. [prov. in child-birth.] Natural and timely labor. காலந்தள்ள, inf. To pass one's days, to pass one's time, to maintain one's self, to live, காலம்போக்க. காலப்பரிச்சேதம், s. Discernment--as to the time of an event or the existences of a thing. It is one of the three பரிச்சேதம் modes of ascertaining facts. காலபரிபாகம், s. The maturity of the soul, or time for its attaining bliss, having eliminated its good and evil propensities. காலபேதம்--காலவித்தியாசம்--கால வேற்றுமை, s. Difference of time with respect to the changes it produces. காலபோகம், s. A crop of grain or fruits in the proper season. 2. The enjoyment or suffering resulting from previous moral actions, to which a living being at distant times is subjected, காலப் பயனுகர்வு. காலப்பெயர், s. Nouns or names of time--as year, month. 2. Nouns derived from names of time--as பங்குனன் (one born in the பங்குனி month). காலப்பெயர்ச்சி, s. Change of season or monsoon; unseasonable weather, கால விகற்பம். காலமயக்கம்--காலமயக்கு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses, காலவழு. 2. An allowed deviation in the use of tenses, காலவழுவமைதி. காலமலைவு, s. Confusion of statement in regard to time--as asserting that the lotus blooms in the evening, or the lily during the day. காலமல்லாக்காலம், s. An unfortunate, fatal time; an unseasonable time, அகாலம். காலமழை, s. Rain in the proper season, பருவத்திற்பெய்யுமழை. காலமறிய, inf. To know the times so as to adapt one's self to them, காலவகைய றிய. 2. To know things past, present or future intuitively or by apiritual sight --as yogis, காலவியற்கையறிய. காலமாறு, Morning by morning, every morning, காலைதோறும். (c.). காலமானம், s. [in arith.] Time measure. காலமிருத்து, s. Death at the destined season--as distinguished from accidental death, விதித்தகாலத்திலடையுமரணம். காலமே--காலத்தாலே. Customs of the times. காலவழு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses--as the past for the future, &c., காலக்குற்றம். காலவாகுபெயர், s. [in gram.] Nouns of time or portions of time, used by metonymy for what is intimately connected with time--as கார்த்திகை, the name of a month, for a plant which mostly blossoms during the month. காலவிடைநிலை, s. [in gram.] Characteristics of tenses, காலத்தைக்காட்டுமிடை நிலை. They are 1. த், ட், ற், and இன் for the past. 2. ஆநின்று, கின்று and கிறு for the present. 3. ப், ல், for the future. There are some other characteristics-as மன், இசின், ய், இ, ன், &c. காலவிரைவு, v. noun. Swiftness or rapid flight of time. காலாகாலம், s. Times seasonable and unseasonable, auspicious and inauspicious, நற்காலந்துர்க்காலம். 2. One time or another, not often, not frequently. (c.) காலாக்கினி, s. Rudra or the deity in the lowest region, in charge of the deluge-fire. There are ten subordinate Rudras, who resemble their chief. காலாந்தம், s. (c.) சத்தியசம்பன்னன், s. A man of veracity. See சம்பன்னம். சத்தியஞ்செய்விக்க, inf. To administer an oath. சத்தியந்தப்ப, inf. To swerve from truth; to become insincere, to fail in one's promises. சத்தியதரிசனி, s. The title of the author of the சிவஞானபோதம் in Tamil--as மெய்கண்டான். சத்தியநாதர், s. The first of the சித்தர். சத்தியநிருவாணம், s. Entire liberation from births, &c., and consequent supreme bliss. (p.) சத்தியப்பிரமாணம்--சத்தியபிரமாணி க்கம், s. Veracity; pure, unmixed truth. 2. A true oath. (c.) சத்தியம்பண்ண, inf. To take an oath, to swear. சத்தியம்பண்ணிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To take an oath in order to remove another's suspicions. சத்தியயுகம், s. The first of the four yugas, the age of truth, the golden age, கிரேதாயுகம். சத்தியலோகம், s. The highest of the seven upper worlds said by some to be the abode of Brahma, and by the Saivas to be that of Siva, ஓர்லோகம். சத்தியவசனம்--சத்தியவாக்கு--சத்திய வாசகம்--சத்தியவாய்மை, s. A true saying or assertion; an infallible truth. சத்தியவதி, s. The mother of Vyasa, வியாசன்றாய். சத்தியவந்தன்--சத்தியவாசகன்--சத்திய வாக்கி--சத்தியவாதி--சத்தியவான், s. A person of veracity, a faithful person. சத்தியவிரதன், s. One who scrupulously adheres to the truth. 2. One who has taken a vow always to speak the truth. 3. A name of the eldest of the five Pandavas. 4. The twenty-fifth king of the Solar dynasty in the second age (Sa. Satyavrata.) சத்தியவேதம், s. The true Veda, or holy writings. 2. [in christian usage.] The holy scriptures, the Bible. 3. [in Rom. Catholic usage.] The Christian religion. சத்தியவேதக்காரர், s. Christians, also the Romanists. (c.) 62) *

trumm (p. 225) --தர்மம்--தன்மம், s. Justice, right, equity, law, நீதி. 2. Virtue, moral and religious merit according to the Shastras, ஒழுக்கம். 3. Charity, any charitable or meritorious act from which future good is expected --as alms-giving; building or endowing temples, contributing to the support of life, human or brute, or the maintenance of religion, or religious establishments. (See அறம்) (c.) 4. Peculiar or prescribed duty, occupation, &c., according to the different ranks and classes in society--as giving alms, &c., by the house-holder; administering justice, by kings; piety and performing rites by brahmans; courage, bravery in the solider; shaving in the barber, சாதிக்குரிய கருமம். 5. Nature, instinct, characteristic, property or action in animals--as humming in bees, barking in dogs, இயல்பு. 6. Inherent and peculiar qualities in plants, as fragrance in flowers; flavors in fruits, குணம். W. p. 439. DHARMMA.--Note. The negative of the above is அதர்மம், injustice, &c. தருமந்தலைகாக்கும். Uprightness will preserve the head; i. e. the life. தருமகர்த்தா, s. Wardens of a heathen temple. 2. Arbitrators, judges, jurymen. தருமகாரியம், s. A charitable act, subject, affair, &c. 2. (fig.) Marriage by charity. தருமகேத்திரம்--தருமக்ஷேத்திரம், s. A place near Delhi, where the Kurus and Pandavas fought. See குருசேத்திரம். தருமக்கட்டை, s. An orphan, supported by strangers, அநாதப்பிள்ளை. (c.) 2. A rubbing post for cattle, ஆவுரிஞ்சுதறி. தருமக்கிழவர், s. Traders of three kinds, the வைசியர் caste; (lit.) guardians of justice. See வைசியர், 3. தருமக்கொடை, s. A donation for a charitable purpose. தருமக்கொள்ளி, appel. n. One who lights a funeral pile in charity. தருமக்கோள்--தருமசாடி, s. Indirect information as to any secret crime. தருமங்களைப்போதிக்க, inf. To teach religious duties. தருமசங்கடம், s. [in casuistry.] Difficulty of distinguishing between two duties, காரியமுட்டுப்பாடு. தருமசங்கிதை, s. Some specific book of the law, ஒர்தருமநூல். தருமசத்திரம், s. A rest-house for travellers. தருமசபை, s. Council of arbitrators. தருமசமுஸ்காரம், s. Burying, or burning the deceased poor, அறவைப்பிணஞ்சுடு தல். தருமசாட்சி, s. King's evidence, witnesses cited by the king. தருமசாதனப்பட்டையம்--தருமசாத னம், s. A deed of endowment inscribed on copper. See சாதனம். தருமசாது, s. A very mild, patient and benevolent person, தருமிஷ்டி. தருமசாத்திரம், s. Code of laws, especially the Smriti; rules of justice; ethics, moral philosophy; jurisprudence, ஸ்மிருதி. See கலைஞானம். தருமசாலி, s. A person famed for charity; [ex சாலி.] தருமசாலை, s. An almonry, or place, where any, or all, of the thirty-two charitable acts are performed. தருமசிந்தை--தருமசிந்தனம், s. A charitable or virtuous disposition, motive, intention, object, &c. தருமசிவாசாரி, s. A name of the gurus of the mercantile caste. தருமசீலன், s. (fem. தருமசீலி.) A charitable person piously disposed. தருமசூட்சுமம், s. A nice and difficult point in pleading. தருமஞ்செய்ய, inf. To do charitable and virtuous acts. தருமதானம், s. Beneficence, charitable gifts. தருமதேவதை, s. The goddess of virtue born from the right breast of Brahma, அம்பாலிகை. 2. The vehicle of Siva in the form of a bull, நந்தி. 3. (fig.) A good woman, உத்தமி.--Note. The goddess is described as placing four feet on the earth in the golden age; three in the next, or silver age; two in the brazen; and only one in the iron age. தருமநடை, s. Moral, religious, virtuous conduct; observing prescribed duties according to one's caste. தருமநாள், s. The third lunar asterism --as பரணி. தருமநியாயம்--தருமநீதி, s. Impartial discussion as given in the code of laws. (c.) தருமநூல், s. A corpse buried by public charity. தருமப்பிரபு, s. A man eminent for equity and benevolence. தருமப்பிள்ளை, s. Combat between two champions of equal powers, with the same kind of weapons, and taking no improper advantage. தருமவட்டி, s. Lawful interest. (c.) தருமவாடி, s. An enclosure from which alms are given. தருமவாட்டி--தருமவதி, s. A charitable female. தருமவாளி--தருமவான்--தருமவந்தன், s. A charitable and pious man. (c.) தருமாசனத்தார், s. Judges. தருமாசனம், s. The four class of தோற்றம். 1. பை, or சார யுகம், viviparous, womb-born. 2. முட்டை, or அண்டசம், oviparous or egg-born. 3. நிலம், or உற்பீசம், germinating from the earth by seeds, &c. 4. வியர்வை, or சுவேதசம், insects supposed to be engendered by perspiration, &c., which see severally. வெள்ளிதோற்றம், s. The appearance of stars, as denoting the time of the evening auspicious for marriage, &c. பேய்த்தோற்றம், s. An appearance of an evil spirit. நிலாத்தோற்றம், s. Rising of the moon. தோற்றக்கவி, s. [loc. கட்டியக்காரன்கவி.] A verse sung immediately before the appearance of a person on the stage. தோற்றத்தரு, s. [prov.] The verse and tune sung at the appearance of a person on the stage, who dances round the area while it is sung. தோற்றப்பட, inf. To appear, to be visible, to be conspicuous. 2. To be formed to come into existence, to be born. தோற்றமாக, inf. To appear on the stage. 2. As தோற்றப்பட. தோற்றமொடுக்கம், s.
