umi (p. 62) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To become chaff, பதராக. 2. To become insipid, to spoiled as food, சாரமற. 3. To decay as flesh, dead bodies, the timbers of a house, &c., அழிய. This word is used chiefly in the past tense. வாழைப்பழமுமித்துப்போயிற்று. The plantains are become tasteless. வீட்டுவலிச்சலெல்லாமுக்கியுமித்துப்போயிற்று.... The house is totally decayed. இந்தமீனுப்புப்போடாதிருந்தாலுமித்துநாறிப்போம். If you do not salt this fish, it will become tainted. சோறுமித்துப்போயிற்று. The boiled rice is become insipid. 78)

umiẕ (p. 62) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், உமிழ, v. n. to cast (a liquid) from the mouth, கொப்பளிக்க. 2. To spit, உமிய. 3. (p.) To vomit, retch, puke, eject from an over charged stomach, சத்தியெடுக்க. 4. To emit poison--as from the fangs of a snake; to discharge as arrows; to eject as sparks of fire, to emit as rays; to cast forth as the flower does odor; to yield honey as flowers, to emit sound, சொரிய. நஞ்சுமிழ்வேலினான். He whose dart emits poison. யானைகையுமிழ்நீர். A secretion which the elephant casts. வெங்கணையுமிழ்வில். The bow that discharges the fiery arrows. தழலுமிழ்சிறுகண்யானை. Elephants with eyes of fire. (நைடதம்.) உமிழ்நீர், s. [impr. உமிநீர்.] Spittle, saliva, துப்பல். உமிழ்நீர்குடிக்க--உமிழ்நீரூற, inf. To have the mouth water for things, to covet after. உமிழ்வு, v. noun. I am neither on bad nor good terms with him-often used to show a want of cordiality. உறவர்--உறவோர், (sing. உறவன், வோன்.) Relations, சுற்றத்தார். 2. Friends, நண்பர். உறவாக, inf. To become reconciled, ஒருமைப்பட. 2. To become related, கேண்மையாக. உறவாக்க--உறவுகட்ட--உறவுசெ ய்ய--உறவுபண்ண, inf. To reconcile parties, to make peace with one, ஒருமைப் படுத்த. உறவாட, inf. To be social, to act friendly, exercise the duties of friendship, நட்புச்செய்ய. 2. To treat one as a relation, to caress, entertain, &c., உறவு கொண்டாட. உறவின்முறையார்--உறவுமுறை யார். eccil (p. 73) s. Remains, or refuse of food, crumbs, orts (deemed impure), சேஷம். 2. Any thing defiled by contact with the mouth, saliva, &c., மிச்சில்; [ex எஞ்சு.] எச்சிற்கையாற்காக்கையுமோட்டான். He will not even scare away a crow with his hand while eating, lest any grain of rice fall thereby. எச்சிலாக்க--எச்சிற்படுத்த, inf. To defile food or any thing, by bringing it into contact with the mouth; to defile food by the hand, or spoon in feeding, உச்சிட்டப்படுத்த. 2. To deflour a woman, deprive a damsel of her virginity, either by force or with consent, கன்னிமைகெடுக்க. எச்சிலார், s. Low-caste people, இழிஞர். (p.) எச்சிலிலை--எச்சிற்கல்லை, s. The leaf on which one has eaten. எச்சிலுமிய--எச்சிலுமிழ--எச்சில் துப்ப, inf. To spit. (c.) எச்சில்வாய், s. Mouth unwashed after eating, கழுவாதவாய். எச்சிற்கலக்க, inf. To eat the food left by the bridegroom--as a Hindu bride does on the occasion of her marriage. 2. To eat the food left by others--as friends. எச்சிற்கலப்பு, s. The above ceremony. எச்சிற்காறியுமிழ், inf. To force up the phlegm and spit it out. எச்சிற்கிதம்பாட, inf. To assent to what is wrong from an unworthy motive. எச்சிற்குழி, s. A cavity in a court-yard, used as a spittoon, எச்சில் போடுங்குழி. எச்சிற்பட, inf. To become defiled--as food, &c., by saliva, or contact with the mouth. எச்சிற்பருக்கை, s. Grains of rice fallen while eating, சிந்திக்கிடக்குஞ்சோறு. எச்சிற்பேய், s. A diminutive demon exceedingly voracious, ஓர்பிசாசம். 2. A person very fond of dainties, பெ ருந்தீனிக்காரன். எச்சிற்றழும்பு--எச்சிற்றேமல், s. A kind of ring-worm supposed to be induced by contact with the saliva of others, தழுதணை. எச்சின்மாற்ற, inf. To purify a place after eating by smearing it anew with cowdung. கண்ணெச்சில், s. Evil imagined to be caused by other people's eyes. கண்ணெச்சிற்கழிக்க, inf. To perform a ceremony for the removal of the imagined inauspicious effect of evil eyes. (நைட.) 25)

eḷ (p. 75) s. [vul. எள்ளு.] One of the nine kinds of grain, sesamum, from the seeds of which an oil is extracted, used for food, bathing, &c., திலம். Sesamum orientale. See தானியம் and எண்ணெய்.-Note. The ள் of this word becomes ட் and ண் by permutation. எள்ளத்தனையைமலையத்தனையாக்க. To make a mountain of a sesamum seed, to exaggerate. எள்ளளவு--எள்ளுப்போலே. As much as a sesamum seed, a very little. எள்ளளவுநம்பிக்கையுமில்லை. Utterly unworthy of confidence. 2. Destitute of belief, confidence, &c. எள்ளுக்குளெண்ணெய்போலெங்குநிறைந்தகடவுள். God who pervades the universe, as oil the sesamum seed. எட்கடை--எட்கிடை--எட்பிரமா ணம். As much as a sesamum seed, எள்ள ளவு. 2. A standard of measure in regard to space, ஓரளவு--eight எள் make a நெல் or grain or rice; eight grains of rice one அங்குலம், an inch, &c. எட்பாகு, s. A kind of porridge made of sesamum seed, எள்ளுப்பாகு. எண்ணெய், s. [impr. எண்ணை.] Rape-seed oil. 2. (fig.) A common name for oils of all kinds. எண்ணெயூற்ற, inf. To express oil, எண்ணெய்வடிக்க. எண்ணெயெரிக்க, inf. To prepare medicinal oils by burning, in which the drugs are rolled up in a bit of cloth which is dipped in oil and set on fire; the oil which drops from it is used as a medicine, தைலமெரிக்க. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பு, s. The color of rape-seed oil, or dark brown. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பி, s. A female whose skin resembles rape-seed oil, not so much in regard to its color as its soft and beautiful appearance. எண்ணெய்க்காப்பு, s. Oil for bathing an idol, எண்ணெயபிஷேகம். எண்ணெய்க்காரன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். எண்ணெய்ச்சாணை, s. A hone prepared for use by oiling. எண்ணெய்ச்சாயம், s. Oil paint, எண்ணெயாற்செய்யப்பட்டசாயம். 2. Dyeing a cloth red after soaking it in margosa oil, எண்ணெயிற்றோய்த்தேற்றப்பட்டசாயம். எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு, s. Indigestion produced by eating oily food, எண்ணெய் வயிற்றிற்றங்குகை. 2. A clotted state of the hair from the oil not being well washed out, எண்ணெய்மயிரில்விடாமை. 3. A bad smell--as of oil, எண்ணெய்நாற்றம். எண்ணெய்ச்சீலை, s. Cloth dipped in oil to be applied to wounds, எண் ணெய்த்துணி. 2. A piece of cloth put round the waist before bathing, எண் ணெய்க்கோவணம். எண்ணெய்தேய்க்க, inf. To rub oil. எண்ணெய்தொட்டுப்பொட்டுவைக் க. inf. To dip the finger in oil before bathing dropping seven drops on the floor for the சிரஞ்சிவியர், who are supposed in consequence to grant long life. எண்ணெய்பிறக்க, inf. To form as oil by boiling. எண்ணெய்பூச, inf. To oil, anoint, besmear with oil. எண்ணெய்பொருத்த, inf. To put medical oil on the head or other parts of the body, and to rub it in, மருந்தெண் ணெய்பூச. எண்ணெய்ப்பற்று, s. Adherence of oil or unctuous matter to the bowels, hair, clothes, &c., oil, greasy substance in food--as in fish or on the dress from cooking, எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. எண்ணெய்வழுக்கு, v. noun. Being greasy--as oil, &c., எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. 2. Shining, sleek, glossy, bright, எண்ணெய் மினுக்கு. எண்ணெய்வாணிகன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். ஆமணக்கெண்ணெய், s. Castor oil. தலைக்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil for the head. விளக்கெண்ணெய், s. Lamp oil. புன்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from புன்கம் seeds. சூட்டெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from the residuum of the margosa berry. மருத்தெண்ணெய், s. Medical oil. குருந்தெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from குருந்தம் seeds. இலுப்பெண்ணெய், s. The இலுப் பை oil. வேப்பெண்ணெய், s. Margosa oil. தேங்காயெண்ணெய், s. Cocoanut oil. வடியெண்ணெய், s. Clarified medical oil. கொதியெண்ணெய், s. A species of boiled oil, used for medicinal purposes. புளியெண்ணெய், s. A medical oil. புன்னையெண்ணெய், s. The oil extracted from புன்னை seeds. நல்லெண்ணெய், s. Sesamum oil used for the hair and the skin, &c. மரவெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from wood. தெளிவெண்ணெய், s. Clear margosa oil poured off from the sediment. ஊற்றெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted by pressing or pounding the seeds. மீனெண்ணெய், s. Fish oil. எள்ளுண்டை--எள்ளுருண்டை, s. A pastry made into balls, said to be a very strengthening food, ஓர்சிற்றுண்டி. எள்ளுந்தண்ணீருமிறைக்க, inf. To pour water to the manes of deceased persons on sesamum seeds and sacrificial grass held in the hand. எள்ளோரை, s. Sesamum and rice boiled and mixed with ghee--one of the சித்திரான்னம். காட்டெள்ளு, s. A kind of sesamum found in uncultivated places. காரெள்ளு, s. The common எள். 2. A distinct species of எள். பேரெள்ளு, s. A large kind of sesamum. கடலெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum. வெள்ளெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum bearing white seed. சிற்றெள்ளு, s. The mode of using the hands in dancing which are of twenty-three kinds, viz.: 1. பதாகை, stretching all the five fingers keeping them close and straight. 2. திரிபதாகை, bending the thumb and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 3. பிறை, keeping the other four fingers close together separately from the thumb. 4. சர்ப்பசிரம், keeping the palm of the hand curved. 5. சாளையம், bending the little finger and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 6. மான்றலை, keeping the middle three fing ers down and lifting the other two up. 7. பதுமகோசரம், keeping up the palm of the hand opened having the fingers bent. 8. சிலீமுகம், keeping the tip of the forefinger at the bottom of the thumb and the tips of each of the rest at the middle of the adjoining finger. 9. முட்டி, folding all the four fingers and keeping the thumb above the middle finger. 1. சிக ரம், folding all the other fingers and keeping the thumb stretched. 11. சூசி, stretching the pointing finger and keeping the thumb curved while the others are folded. 12. கபித்தம், keeping the tips of the thumb and fore-finger close together and the other folded. 13. கடகம், keeping the tips of the thumb and forefinger together, the middle finger bent and the rest stretched. 14. சந்தங்கிஷம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, stretching the rest. 15. அஞ்சவாய், keeping the ringfinger and little finger separately stretched up and keeping the tips of the rest together. 16. முகிழ், keeping the tips of all the fingers together. 17. திரிலிங்கம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, the rest curved and the wrist a little bent. 18. மிருகசிரம், stretching up the pointing finger and the little finger and keeping the rest close together. 19. சிங்கநகம், keeping up the palm of the hand having the fingers almost folded. 2. கூர்மம், stretching up the middle finger while the others are bent down. 21. பூரணம், stretching all the five fingers straight not being close together. 22. மென்னிலை, bending the thumb and stretching up the rest. 23. முன்னதம், separating the fore-finger from the rest. கரவாளம், s. A sword, கைவாள். கராசலம், s. An elephant--as having a mountain (its body) connected with its trunk, யானை. கராசனம், s. A tiger, as resting on its paws, புலி. 83)

kāṟu (p. 106) கிறேன், காறினேன், வேன், காற, v. a. To hawk, to hawk up phlegm, &c., காறி யுமிழ. 2. v. n. To taste bitter, musty, or rancid--as stale food, காறலாயுருசிக்க. கத்தரிக்காய் காறுகின்றது. The cooked brinjal tastes bitter. காறித்துப்ப--காறிப்போட--காறியுமிழ, inf. To hawk and spit. எல்லாரும் உன்முகத்திற் காறித்துப்புவார்கள்.... Every body will hawk and spit on your face; i.e. if you act thus, every one will treat you with contumely. காறல், s. A bitter, musty flavor, producing often a tendency to hawk and spit; the bitter taste of stale food; rancidity, காறுகிறருசி. 2. An eatable that tastes bitter and musty, காறலான பதார்த் தம். 3. v. noun. Hawking; retching, காறுதல். காறலாயிருக்க, inf. [local.] To feel an itching in the throat. 39)

kuruvi (p. 126) s. A small bird, சிறுபறவை. 2. The nineteenth lunar mansion, மூலநாள். See மூலம். குருவிக்கூட்டைக்கூட்டைக்கோலாலேகலைக்கலாமா. Is it right to destroy a nest with a stick; i.e. to ruin a family? குருவிக்குத்தக்கராமேசுரம். A Ramisseram suitable to a small bird; i. e. the poor do not need great houses, &.c. ஒருகுருவியுமறியாமல். Not a bird (soul) knowing; i. e. with the utmost secrecy. அங்கேஒருகுருவியுமில்லை. There is not a soul there. குரீஇ, s. A poetic form of குருவி. குருவிக்கூடு, s. A bird's nest. குருவியெச்சம், s. Bird's dung. குருவிவேட்டை, s. Fowling, birdcatching. குருவிக்குடல், s. A craving for food frequently, which some get by eating too little at a time, சிறுகுடல். குருவிக்கார், s. A small kind of black paddy, ஓர்நெல். குருவிவாலான், s. [local.] A large kind of paddy with a beard. ஓர்நெல். குருவித்தலைப்பாகல்--குருவிப்பாகல், s. [prov.] A kind of பாகல், with an edible, bitter fruit. குருவித்தலைப்பாக்கு--குருவிப்பாக்கு, s. [prov.] A peculiar species of arecanut, small but abundant. குருவிமீன், s. The name of a fish.

koẕu (p. 146) s. A plough-share, a coulter, காறு. 2. adj. Fat, rich, &c. See கொழுமை. கொழுச்சென்றவழிநுண்ணுசிசெல்லுமாபோல்..... Just as a small needle passes with ease through a passage made by a coulter. கொழுக்கட்ட--கொழுத்தைக்க, inf. To fasten the iron point to the plough share. (R.) கொழுச்சிராய், s. [prov.] A piece of wood which fastens the coulter to the plough. கொழுத்தட்ட, inf. To sharpen the plough-share--a yearly practice. கொழுமீதி--கொழுமுதல், s. The owner's portion of the produce of a field, deducting the rent to the government. கொழுக்கட்டை, s. A kind of steamed cake, ஓர் சிற்றுண்டி. பிடிகொழுக்கட்டை, இலைக்கொழுக்கட்டை, and ஆவிக்கொழுக்கட்டை, are different kinds of கொழுக்கட்டை pastry. கொழுக்கட்டைக்குத் தலையுமில்லைக் காலுமில்லை, குறவருக்கு நெறியுமில்லை முறையுமில்லை. The கொழுக்கட்டை cake has neither head nor foot, and the குறவர் people have no manners nor principle. இருப்புக்கதவிடித்துத் தவிட்டுக்கொழுக்கட்டை யெடுக்கிறதா? Does one break through an iron door to steal cakes made of bran, i. e., no man of sense wearies himself for trifles. 126)

cangkōcam (p. 156) s. Shutting, contracting, சுருங்கல். 2. W. p. 88. SANKOCHA. Bashfulness, shyness, coyness, ticklishness, கூச்சம். (c.) சங்கோசம்விட்டாற்சங்கையுமில்லை. Where there is no modesty there will be no virtue. சங்கோசக்காரன், s. A bashful man. சங்கோசப்பட, inf. To be bashful, timid. 36) *

(c.) 8. The thing conceived in the mind, as one of the three things about which the astrologer is consulted. See நஷ்டம் and முஷ்டி. Compare சிந்தை. உனக்கொருசிந்தனையுமில்லை. You need have no concern. 2. (R.) There is nothing against you. சிந்தனைகெட்டுப்போக, inf. To become bewildered, or deranged. சிந்தனைப்பட, inf. To be careful, anxious, concerned. 2. To be distracted, disturbed in thought. சிந்தனைபண்ண, inf. To remember, to think, to reflect, to meditate. 2. To make supplication in the heart. 3. To heed, attend to. 4. To inquire, examine. சிந்தனைபண்ணிப்பார். Ponder this well; think over and over. சிந்தனையின்மை, s. (neg.) Freedom from care or apprehension. 2.
