camāti (p. 163) s. The last of the eight அ ங்கயோகம், or states and modes of silent, contemplative worship, அங்கயோகத்தொன்று. 2. One of the postures of the ascetic for silent meditation, being an upright, majestic position, as a fancied image of the deity, ஞானசமாதி. 3. The abstract contemplation of the ascetic in which the soul is supposed to be independent of the body and mind. (See யோகம்.) 4. Knowledge of the sublimest description--as of the deity, one's own spiritual nature, &c., acquired by supernatural illumination, without the aid of organs physical or mental, சமாதி தரிசனை. 5. A mode of interment, by placing the corpse in a sitting posture in imitation of the சமாதி worshipper, சமாதி யில்வைக்க,--Note. The வீரசைவர் sect are all burried in this manner, (it being deemed improper to burn them lest the linga previously worn should be burnt also,) and occasionally a monument of masonry is built around the corpse, as a linga, which thus becomes an object of worship. 6. A grave, a tomb, a sepulchre, பிணம் புதைக்குங்குழி. 7. [in rhet.] A species of personifications, a metaphor in which the quality or attribute properly belongs to the objects to which the metaphor refers, ஓரலங்காரம்--as பாயிருள்பருகிப்பகல்கான்றெழுதரு பருதி, the orient sun which swallows the darkness and pours forth the day; also, கன்னிமதில், virgin walls, i. e. imperishable, and குமரிஞாழல், the young rush, i. e. ever green. 8. Death, demise, commonly spoken of a devotee, மரணம். W. p. 896. SAMAD'HI. சமாதிக்குப்போக, inf. To betake one's self for a time to his cell, as an advenced devotee to secure uninterrupted, and protracted contemplation in silent worship. சமாதிக்குழி, s. The cell or grave of the devotee for interment, in an erect, sitting posture. 2. A grave. சமாதிபண்ண, inf. To sit in any of the postures of the Yogi. (p.) சமாதிபெற, inf. To receive of the Guru the degree of the Yogi, entitling the person to the privilege of sitting in the சமாதி postures. சமாதியடைய, inf. To sit in the ச மாதி posture in silent meditation. 2. To retire to the grave, to die. 3. To die in an erect posture--as a devotee. சமாதியில்வைக்க, inf. To bury a corpse in a sitting posture--as customary with some Hindus. (c.) சமாதியிருக்க, inf. To sit in a contemplative posture--as a silent devotee. 2. To betake one's self to his sepulchre --as an exalted devotee, on the approach of death, remaining without nourishment in a sitting posture until life is extinct. சமாதியுப்பு, s. A kind of medicinal salt formed from the corpse interred in a sitting posture, taken up after some years; also the salt cast into the grave at the interment to prevent putrefaction. 10)

civam (p. 187) s. Liberation from births, eternal bliss, the true heaven, முத்தி. 2. Spiritual good, நன்மை. 3. Excellence, உயர்வு. (சது.) 4. (சிவ. சி.) The highest state of deity, in which he assumes no form, but is a pure spirit, in perfect quiescence; free from passions, and emotions, eternally and inconceivably happy; in whom the soul liberated from மலம், and birth, becomes absorbed as a drop of water in the ocean, சுயஞ்சிவம். 5. The twentieth of the twentyseven yogas, நித்தியயோகத்தொன்று. 6. One of the five சிவதத்துவம். 7. A measure--as குறுணி. சிவகதி, s. Liberation from births, final bliss, மோட்சம். சிவகதிக்கிறைவன், s. Siva, as god of bliss, சிவன். 2. Argha of the Jainas, அருகன். சிவஞானம், s. Divine knowledge as connected with the Saiva religion, the abstract knowledge of Siva as the deity, பதிஞானம். 2. Good, auspicious deeds, &c.--as சுகன் மம். சுபகாலம், s. [in astrol.] An auspicious time; a joyful, prosperous time, நல்லகாலம். சுபக்கிரகம், s. An auspicious or benign planet--as the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus. (p.) சுபக்ஷேமம், s. Sound health--as சுக சேமம். சுபசகுனம், s. A good omen, நற்சகு னம். சுபசொரூபம், s. Benignant appearance or manifestation, &c. (p.) சுபசோபனம், s. Joyful tidings, or events--as of the birth of a child, or of a girl's becoming marriageable. (c.) சுபசேதி--சுபசெய்தி, s. Joyful tidings, happy events. (p.) சுபதினம், s. (Astrologically.) A fortunate day, நல்லநாள். 2. (R.) A mode of salutation somewhat like 'Good day' but in implies, that the meeting is fortunate. (Modern.) சுபத்தானம்--சுபஸ்தானம், s. [in astrol.] An auspicipus or favorable position of a planet; [ex தானம்.] (p.) சுபமங்களம், s. Auspicious benediction, by brahmans, &c. சுபமஸ்து, s. Salutation, success, prosperity; a sanscrit term of benediction at the opening of a treatise, &c., மங்களச்சொல்; [ex அஸ்து.] சுபமிருத்து, s. A good or auspicious death. (p.) சுபயோகம், s. Auspicious yogas, being eighteen out of twenty-seven. (See யோகம்.) 2. The conjunction of an auspicious day of the week, phase of the moon and lunar constellation. (p.) சுபவசனம்--சுபவாக்கு--சுபவாசகம் --சுபவார்த்தை, s. Auspicious language; agreeable, or propitious words. சுபவாதனை, s. Blissful experience of the soul; divine illumination, spiritual enjoyment. Good and ill-luck, auspicious and inauspicious appearances, commonly in reference to weddings, and funeral, நன்மையுந்தீமையும்; [ex அசுபம்.] சுபாதிசயம், s. cūlam (p. 201) s. The trident, as a weapon; the three pronged dart or trident of Siva, ஓராயு தம். 2. An Instrument for impaling, கழு. 3. The spear on the top of a banner, கொடி த்தலைச்சூலம். 4. One of the twenty-seven astrological yogas, இருபத்தேழ்யோகத்தொன்று. W. p. 855. S'OOLA. 5. The twentyseventh or last lunar mansion, இரேவ திநாள். 6. The supposed position of the trident of Siva, at any given time, according to the days of the week; during which it is considered unlucky to set out on a journey in the direction in which it lies, and the reverse, வாரசூலம்--Thus, திங்கள் சனிகிழக்கேசூலம், On Monday and Saturday, to go Eastward; செவ்வாய்புதன் வடக்கேசூலம், Tuesday and wednesday to the North; வெள்ளிஞாயிறுமேற்கேசூலம், Sunday and Friday to the West; வியாழந்தெற்கேசூலம், Thursday to the South, is unlucky. சூலக்குறடு, s. [prov.] An instrument for branding cattle. See சூட்டுக்கோல். சூலக்குறி, s. The trident mark, branded on a temple, cow, ox, or described on a heap of threshes paddy. சூலதரன்-சூலபாணி-சூலபாணியன். s. Siva. 2. Bhairava. W. p. 855. S'OOLAD'HARA. சூலத்திசை, s. [prov.] The point of the compass toward which the trident is supposed to be directed. சூலத்திலேற்ற, inf. [commonly கழு வேற்ற.] To whirl one on the trident, as a mode of punishment for Siva, by Yama; also the sins of souls, and to give them salvation. சூலத்தீவர்த்தி, s. [prov. சூலவிளக்கு.] A lamp with three lights in imitation of a trident; used in temples. சூலவலகு, s. The blade of the trident weapon; [ex அலகு.] சூலாயுதம்--சூலப்படை--சூலவேல், s. The trident weapon--as சூலம். சூலம்போட்டுவிட்டஎருது, s. A branded bull, devoted to the temple. 5) *

tiyāṉam (p. 238) s. Meditation, contemplation, fixed and undivided attention to an object, யூகிப்பு. 2. Profound and abstract contemplation of the deity, or of an image formed in the mind, தேவசிந்தனை. 3. Contemplation of a religionist in the சரிதை and கிரியை degrees. (See செபத்தியானம்.) 4. [in Hindu astron.] The longitudinal distance of the sun, or a planet, from the first of Aries, at the end of synodic periods, as found in சோத்தியவாக்கியம். துருவன், s.
