ēẕu (p. 79) . Seven, septuple, seven fold, ஓரெண்.--Note. Seven is considered a special or sacred number. As a prefix it is often எழு or ஏழ். எழுகடல்--ஏழ்கடல், s. The seven oceans. எழுநிலைக்கோபுரம், s. A tower seven stories high. எழுநிலைமாடம், s. A palace seven stories high, lit. with seven door frames one above another. எழுபிறப்பு--ஏழ்பவம்--ஏழ்பிறப் பு, s. The seven different living beings, viz.: 1. தேவர், supernals. 2. மக்கள், men. 3. விலங்கு, beasts. 4. பறவை, birds. 5. ஊர்வன, reptiles. 6. நீர்வாழ்வன, aquatic creatures. 7. தாவரம், immovable things --as trees, plants. ஏழடிபின்போக, inf. To accompany a poet or learned person seven steps on his departure. ஏழத்தனை. Seven-fold. ஏழரை--எழரையாண்டுச்சனி, s. The period of saturn's evil influence being seven-and-half years. See மங்கு சனி, பொங்குசனி, மரணசனி. ஏழனுருபு, s. The seventh case or local ablative, ஏழாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. ஏழாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage-shed when planted on the seventh day before the wedding, a lucky day being chosen. ஏழுகோணம், s. A heptagon, septangular figure. ஏழுதீவு, s. The seven continents. ஏழுபருவம், s. The seven stages of life. See பருவம். ஏழுலகம், s. The seven worlds, including the earth and six supernal worlds. ஏழேழு, s. Seven times seven. 2. Seven of each, எவ்வேழு. ஏழேழுதலைமுறை, s. Seven generations, the duplication of the numeral indicating and equal number of generations both on the side of husband and wife. ஏழ்பரியோன், s. The sun as drawn by seven green horses, ஆதித்தன். ஏழ்புரி, s. The seven sacred cities, also witten ஏழ்புர, and ஏழ்தலம். See புரி. ஈரேழுலகம், s. caṉi (p. 173) s. The planet Saturn, the most, malignant, in astrological influence of all the planets, ஓர்கிரகம். 2. Saturday, சனிக்கி ழமை. W. p. 829. S'ANI. 3. (fig.) A person of ill omen whose company is dangerous, சனிபோன்றவன்.--Note. The different positions and influences of the planet are. (1.) அஷ்டமசனி. See under அஷ்டம். (2.) நாலாமிடத்துச்சனி, called also அர்த்தாஷ்டம சனி. Saturn in the fourth sign from that of one's birth, where his influence is less malignant. (3.) இரண்டாமிடத்துச்சனி, or பாதச் சனி. Saturn in the sign nest to that in the ascendant, where his influence is indicative of eloquence and oratory. (4.) ஏழ ரையாண்டுச்சனி. Saturn's 7?? years' evil influence called ஏழரை, and divided into three parts, மங்குசனி, பொங்குசனி, மரணச்சனி which see. As saturn is 2?? years in each sign of the zodiac, it occupies 7?? years for three signs, so that a man living ninety years would pass three times through all these periods. See ஏழரை. (5.) பன்னிரண்டாமிடத்துச் சனி. Saturn in the 12th sign from that in the ascendant. (6.) சன்மச்சனி. Saturn in the ascendant. (7.) மகத்துச்சனி. Saturn in the first lunar asterism of Leo called மகம், indicating great calamities. (8.) மீனச்சனி. Saturn in the Pices, considered unpropitious in its influence. இவனெனக்கு மகத்துச்சனிபோலிருக்கிறான். He is a great enemy to me. சனிகழிய--சனியன்றொலைய, inf. To expire or end as any period of saturn's malign influence on a person. 2. To terminate as a cause of calamity, evil, &c. சனிக்கிழமை--சனிவாரம், s. Saturday. சனிக்கிழமைவிரதம், s. [also சனிவிர தம்.] A fast on Saturdays, to avert the evil influences of Saturn, when, before eating, crows, emblems of Saturn, are fed. 2. A fast in honor of Vishnu. சனிபகவான்--சனீச்சுரன், s. The regent of Saturn. சனிபிடித்தல், v. noun. Being seized by Saturn, brought under his malignant influence. 2. (fig.) Being assailed by adverse circumstances, துன்புறுதல். சனிமுழுக்கு, v. noun. Bathing on Saturdays. சனிமூலை, s. The north east, (lit.) Saturn's quarter, வடகிழக்கு. சனியன், s. Saturn the planet. 2. An unlucky person, associating with whom may bring evil. 3. A troublesome person, animal, thing, circumstance, &c. இவன் எனக்குச் சனியனாய் வந்தான். He is a Saturn (an inauspicious person) to me. சனிவேதை, s. The influence of Saturn; pain, சனிதோஷம். (R.) சனிக்காசு, s. A small coin paid to the master, by the scholars, on Saturdays. சனிப்பாட்டு, s. [loc.] A song or poem sung by the boys of a school, near the end of a year, to obtain presents from their parents, and others, for the master. சனியெண்ணெய், s. The oil collected by scholars, from their parents, for their teacher, on Saturdays. 66) *

pongku (p. 336) கிறது, பொங்கினது, ம், பொ ங்க, v. n. To boil up, bubble up by heat, கொதிக்க. 2. To foam and rage--as the sea, கொந்தளிக்க. 3. To ferment, to effervesce, நுரையெழ. 4. To rise as bread from leaven, மாப்புளிக்க. 5. To be inflamed and swell, as a sore, சினக்க. 6. To increase, expand, extend, மிக. 7. To grow intense, பெருக. 8. To abound, to flourish, to be fruitful, செழிக்க. 9. To rise, grow high, to become elevated, உயர. 1. To swell--as the heart in anger, sorrow, joy, &c., மனம் பொங்க. 11. To be flushed with hope, or desire, நினைத்துமகிழ. 12. To be elated, to be puffed up with pride, பெருமிதங்கொள்ள. 13. v. a. To boil rice, சோறாக்க. 14. To boil rice in cow's milk, as a religious rite at a temple, கோயிலில்பொங்க. பொங்குங்காலம் புளிபூக்கும், மங்குங்காலம்மாகாய்க் கும். In propitious seasons the tamarind abounds, in scarce times, the mango. பொங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To cook for one--as a host for a lodger. பொங்கித்தெளித்தல், v. noun. Boiling rice in milk, and sprinkling a house with the liquid, because an owl has lighted on the roof. (Jaff.) பொங்கிவழிய, inf. To boil over, as rice, milk, &c. 2. To superabound or overflow as wealth. பொங்குசனி, s. [in astrol.] The second and most propitious of ஏழரையாண்டுச்சனி. See சனி. பொங்கல், v. noun. Boiling, bubbling; fermentation. 2. Raging as the sea. 3. The festival when the sun enters Capricorn about the 11th of January. See தைப்பொங்கல். (c.) 4. Abundance, excess, profusion, மிகுதி. 5. Rejoicing, exulting, மகிழ்தல்.--For மாட்டுப்பொங்கல், see in its place. பொங்கலாண்டி--பொங்கலாள்--பொங் கற்காரன், s. A cook, one who boils his own rice and lives by himself in a niggardly way. பொங்கலிட--பொங்கல்பொங்க, inf. To boil rice without straining out the water in which it has been boiled. 2. To boil rice for a religious purpose-also பொங்கல்போட. பொங்கல்வரிசை, s. The presents sent to a married woman from her parents, at the பொங்கல் feast. 2. presents sent to a superior at that time, as உலுப்பை. பொங்கல்வைக்க, inf. As பொங்கலிட. 2. [in cant.] To injure a person. 3. To kill one. பொங்கற்சம்பா, s. A kind of rice. See சம்பா. பொங்கற்சாதம், s. Rice boiled at the temple. 2. See சாதம். பொங்கற்பானை, s. mngku (p. 338) கிறது, மங்கினது, ம், மங்க, v. n. To grow dim--as a luminous body, ஒளி மழுங்க. 2. To fade, grow pale--as colors; be deprived of lustre, நிறங்குன்ற. 3. To grow dim or dull--as the sight, the appearance of the eyes, a mirror, glass or other transparency; to become obscured, dingy, cloudy, dusky--as twilight, பார்வை குன்ற. 4. To be obscured, as splendor, glory, fame; to fade, as beauty; to decline as prosperity; to be reduced in circumstances, power, or authority, தோற் றங்குறைய. 5. To be overpowered, as light by superior splendor; to be eclipsed, மறைய. 6. To be deprived of freshness--as the countenance, to grow wan or sallow, வாட. 7. A kind of rice quickly growing and yielding abundantly; (lit.) he who has preserved from destruction, ஓர்வகைநெல். மங்கல், v. noun. Decaying, fading, கெ டுதல். 2. Dimness, obscurity, gloominess; growing dim, மழுங்கல். (சது.) மங்கல்விளக்கு. A dim or obscure lamp. மங்கனிறம். A dim or dingy color. 107)
