akppāṭṭuṟuppu (p. 2) s. The twelve members of அகப்பொருள் or அகத்திணை, viz. 1. இயல்பகத்திணை. Method of defining a thing or showing its nature, quality, &c. 2. வகையகத்திணை. Amplification, or detailing at large what has been said briefly. 3. பொதுவகத்திணை. The rule for summing up or recapitulating. 4. சிறப்பகத்திணை. The rule for discriminating, or explaining the difference of things. 5. உவமவகத்திணை. The rule for illustrating a subject by metaphors, comparisons, &c. 6. புறநிலையகத்திணை. The rule for exemplifying a subject by examples. 7. எதிர்நிலையகத்திணை. The rule for elucidating a circumstance by its opposite. 8. காரண or கருவியகத்திணை. Showing the condition or quality of a thing by its orginal cause. 9. காரியவகத்திணை. Proving a thing by its effects. 1. காரகவகத்திணை. The rule for relating an action, event, &c., to which belong the following:-- 1. செய்பவன், who. 2. செய்தொழில், what. 3. கருவிகள், by what helps. 4. பயன், why. 5. இடம் or நிலம், where. 6. காலம், when. 7. திறன், in what manner or how. 11. முன்னவையகத்திணை. akkaram (p. 3) --அட்சரம், s. A letter of the alphabet, a character, the marks on an amulet, எழுத்து. Wils. p. 4. AKSHARA. (p.) *அக்கரசுதகம்--அடசரசுதகம், s. A kind of play in writing, arranging letters in a fanciful manner, மிறைக்கவியி லொன்று. அக்கரவிலக்கணம்--அட்சரலட்ச ணம், s. The properties, forms, names, powers, &c. of letters, orthography. 2. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம், ex இலக் கணம். அக்கராரம்பம்--அட்சராரம்பம், s. Beginning to teach a child the letters of the alphabet, with appropriate ceremonies, on the fifth year. 46) *

akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. AGNI. அக்கினிகணம், s. The same as தீக்கணம், an inauspicious measure. See கணம். (p.) அக்கினிகர்ப்பம், s. A spark. 2. A crystal with fabulous qualities. 3. A decayed cuttle-fish bone, Os sepi&ae;, கட னுரை. அக்கினிகலை, s. Breath coming from the nostrils, in சரசாத்திரம். அக்கினிகோத்திரம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். 2. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread on fire, one of the thirty-two kinds of selftorture. அக்கினிமூலை, s. The south-east region. அக்கினியாதேயம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம், sacrifices. அக்கினியாஸ்திரம், s. A kind of arrow, ஓரத்திரம், (c.) அக்கினியோகம், s. An inauspicious conjunction of the days of the week with the tithi திதி, as follows: 1. When the 5th or 11th tithi, Lunar day (திதி) occurs on Monday. 2. When the 5th tithi occurs on Wednesday. 3. When the 6th or 9th occurs on Thursday. 4. When the 8th or 1th occurs on Friday. 5. When the 9th or 11th occurs on Saturday. 6. When the 12th occurs on Sunday. 18) *

angkā (p. 5) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To gape, open the mouth freely, yawn, வாய்திறக்க. (p.) அங்கா, v. noun. Opening the mouth. ஆயுதக்கிடந்தலையங்காமுயற்சி, (நன்.) The letter ஃ originates in the head, and is pronounced by opening the mouth. 19)
