Most of the meanings of this word have reference to the mind. சாஸ்திரத்திற்கமைந்துநடக்கிறவன், He is one who obeyed the shasters. ஐம்புலனமைந்தவன், s. One who has suppressed the five senses, or to whom the senses are subject. இது என்விசாரணைக்கமைந்த காரியம். It is a matter at my disposal. என்விருப்பத்திற்கமைந்தபடிநடந்தது. It has occurred to my satisfaction. சுகதுக்கம் ஊழின்படி அமையும். Good and evil are appointed according to former character. செயுநீர்மைசெய்யாதமைகலாவாறு. The first post of the marriage shed when planted on the fifth day before the marriage, the third, fifth, or seventh day being chosen, as it may be lucky or otherwise, according to astrological calculation, மணப்பந்தரின் ஐந்தாங்கால். ஐந்தானம், s. oṭu (p. 81) s. The name of a tree, ஓர் மரம். 2. [as ஒடக்கட்டி.] concealed matter in a boil or imposthume after the surface is healed, an abscess imperfectly healed, the core, புடைகொண்டபுண். ஒடுக்கட்டி, s. A boil under the armpit, ஓர்பரு. ஒடுத்தங்க--ஒடுநிற்க, inf. To remain as concealed, unremoved, insidious matter in a boil, causing a new eruption, பருவிற்சீத்தங்க. ஓடுநின்றாற்பின்புங்கட்டும். If matter remain, new eruptions will form. ஒடுவடக்கி, s. A plant used for curing new ulcerations, caused by matter remaining in a boil-commonly called குப்பைமேனி. 2. A tree, திராய்மரம். ஒடுவெண்ணெய், s. Oil applied to cause absorption of matter in a boil, or to cure new eruptions, ஓர்தைலம். 46)

kccvṭm (p. 85) s. Traffic, merchandise, commerce, especially in cloth, வியாபாரம். பிச்சைக்குமூத்ததுகச்சவடம். The business of a peddler is little better than begging. [prov.] கச்சவடக்காரன், s. A merchant, man of commerce. கச்சவடம்பண்ண, inf. To trade, to traffic in cloth. 62) *

kyiṟu (p. 96) s. Rope, cord, string, twine, line, bobbin, வடம். கயிறடிக்க, inf. To strike lines on timber with a colored string--as a carpenter. கயிறறுந்தஆட்கள், s. [prov.] Vagabonds, vagrants, strollers. கயிறுகட்ட, inf. To put off from day to day. 2. To show a pretended consent--as a seller to give his goods to one who offers a low price. 3. To employ one to deceive another. கயிறுசாத்த--கயிறுபோட, inf. To pass a string between the leaves of an ola book in order to divine by it. கயிறுசிக்குப்பட, inf. To be embroiled, to disagree, to quarrel--as husband and wife, &c., தொந்தரவுபட. கயிறுதடி, s. One of the weaver's implements, நெய்வார்கருவியிலொன்று. கயிறுதிரிக்க--கயிறுமுறுக்க, inf. To twist, twine, cord, &c. கயிறுபிடிக்க--கயிறுபின்ன, inf. To plat bobbin, cord, &c. கயிறுமாற, inf. To change the rope on the head of a horse or ox newly bought, to ratify the purchase--considered auspicious to the seller. (திருவிளை.) கயிற்றுக்கோல், s. A kind of balance or steel-yard, ஓர்தராசு. கயிற்றுக்கோலாட்டம், v. noun. Playing with strings and sticks so that a weft or lace is formed thereby, ஓர்வ கைவிளையாட்டு. கயிற்றுச்சுருள், s. A coil of rope. See சுருளை. கயிற்றுப்பொருத்தம், s. Astrological agreement required in order to the assumption of the marriage symbol-one of the ten points in astrology in which there should be agreement in the horoscopes of the male and female in order to the suitableness of a marriage connexion.--Note. When such agreement is wanting, though the marriage takes place, the symbol is not put on. கயிற்றேணி, s. A rope-ladder, the shrouds of a vessel, நூலேணி. வடக்கயிறு, s. A rope which is used in lowering or elevating the ploughshare. 2. A great rope used at Hindu festivals for drawing the car. தொடுகயிறு, s. A rope used in ploughing. 51)

cūlam (p. 201) s. The trident, as a weapon; the three pronged dart or trident of Siva, ஓராயு தம். 2. An Instrument for impaling, கழு. 3. The spear on the top of a banner, கொடி த்தலைச்சூலம். 4. One of the twenty-seven astrological yogas, இருபத்தேழ்யோகத்தொன்று. W. p. 855. S'OOLA. 5. The twentyseventh or last lunar mansion, இரேவ திநாள். 6. The supposed position of the trident of Siva, at any given time, according to the days of the week; during which it is considered unlucky to set out on a journey in the direction in which it lies, and the reverse, வாரசூலம்--Thus, திங்கள் சனிகிழக்கேசூலம், On Monday and Saturday, to go Eastward; செவ்வாய்புதன் வடக்கேசூலம், Tuesday and wednesday to the North; வெள்ளிஞாயிறுமேற்கேசூலம், Sunday and Friday to the West; வியாழந்தெற்கேசூலம், Thursday to the South, is unlucky. சூலக்குறடு, s. [prov.] An instrument for branding cattle. See சூட்டுக்கோல். சூலக்குறி, s. The trident mark, branded on a temple, cow, ox, or described on a heap of threshes paddy. சூலதரன்-சூலபாணி-சூலபாணியன். s. Siva. 2. Bhairava. W. p. 855. S'OOLAD'HARA. சூலத்திசை, s. [prov.] The point of the compass toward which the trident is supposed to be directed. சூலத்திலேற்ற, inf. [commonly கழு வேற்ற.] To whirl one on the trident, as a mode of punishment for Siva, by Yama; also the sins of souls, and to give them salvation. சூலத்தீவர்த்தி, s. [prov. சூலவிளக்கு.] A lamp with three lights in imitation of a trident; used in temples. சூலவலகு, s. The blade of the trident weapon; [ex அலகு.] சூலாயுதம்--சூலப்படை--சூலவேல், s. The trident weapon--as சூலம். சூலம்போட்டுவிட்டஎருது, s. A branded bull, devoted to the temple. 5) *

cērlṉ (p. 208) --சேரன், s. (pl. சேரர்.) Any king of the Séra race, that reigned on the Malabar coast and were said to be descended from the god of fire, பூழியன். சேரநாடு--சேரமண்டலம், s. The Séra country. வடக்குத்தலம்பழனிவாழ்கீழ்ச்செங்கோடு, குடக்குத்திசைக்கோழிக்கூடாம், கடற்கரையின் ஓரமதுதெற்காகுமோரெண்பதின்காதம், சேரநாட்டெல்லையெனச்செப்பு. The most northerly place is Palany, the most eastern Chengodu (Trichengodu), the most western Kolicodoo (Calicut), and on the south, is the sea--in all, eighty Kathams (eight hundred miles). This is called the boundary of the Séra country. சேரமான்--சேரமான்பெருமான், s. One of the sixty-three devotees of Siva, a king of the Séra race, an author and a universal linguist, knowing even the supposed language of animals, அறுபத்து மூவரிலொருவர். 34)

tamiẕ (p. 223) s. Sweetness, pleasantness, melodiousness, இனிமை. 2. The tamil language, தமிழ்ப்பாஷை; of which there are two principal divisions, செந்தமிழ், high, or polished Tamil and கொடுந்தமிழ், common, or unpolished Tamil. A further division is இயற்றமிழ், prose, இசைத்தமிழ், poetic, and நாடகத்தமிழ், dramatic Tamil. For particulars, see these in their places. 3. Nature, state, quality, நீர்மை--Note. When used adjectively, ழ் sometimes changes to ழ. தமிழப்பிள்ளை, s. A tamil lad. 2. [vul.] A tamil man. தமிழவண்ணான், s. Washerman of caste people. தமிழன், s. (fem. தமிழச்சி.) A Tamulian. தமிழிலேபழக, inf. To be familiar with the Tamil language. தமிழெல்லை, s. The precincts, frontiers, confines of the Tamil country. தமிழோர், s. (plu.) Tamil poets, the learned, தமிழ்ப்புலவர். (p.) தமிழ்திருப்ப--தமிழ்ப்படுத்த, inf. To translate into Tamil. தமிழ்க்கூத்தர்--தமிழ்கூத்தர், s. Tamil dramatists or dancers. தமிழ்ச்சொல், s. Tamil word. தமிழ்நடை, s. The order, walk, or going of the Tamil language; i. e. its idiom. தமிழ்நாடன், s. Any king of the Pandyan race. தமிழ்நாடு, s. The Tamil country. See திராவிடம். 2. The Madura district. See செந்தமிழ்நாடு. தமிழ்நாவலர், s. Tamil poets. (p.) தமிழ்ப்போங்கு--தமிழ்ப்போக்கு, v. noun. As தமிழ்நடை. தமிழ்மலை, s. Mount Pothiyam, the reputed residence of the sage Agastya, father of the Tamil language. தமிழ்முனி, s. The poet Agastya. தமிழ்மொழியாக்கம், s. The formation of Tamil words. தமிழ்வாணர், s. Tamil poets; (lit.) they in whom classical Tamil lives. தமிழ்வேதம், s. A book of four-thousand parts, நாலாயிரப்பிரபந்தம். 2. The books தே வாரம், and திருவாசகம்; also the குறள், of the poet, திருவள்ளுவர், is so called in eulogy. செந்தமிழ்நாடு, s. The districts where pure Tamil was spoken. See செந்தமிழ். கொடுந்தமிழ்நாடு. s. The twelve districts around the Madura kingdom, in the Tamil of which, irregularities and provincialisms weer found; as stated in the following stanza-தென்பாண்டி, குட்டம், குடம், கற்கா, வேண், பூழி பன்றி, அருவா, அதன்வடக்கு--நன்றாய சீதம், மலாடு, புனனாடு, செந்தமிழ் சேர் ஏதமில் பன்னிரு நாட்டெண். 114)

tikku (p. 237) s. (Sa. Dik.) Region, quarter, point of the compass, direction, திசை. 2. Protection, shelter, aid, ஆதரவு. (c.) எனக்குத்திக்குமில்லைத்திசையுமில்லை. I have no support whatever. திக்குத்திசைதெரியாதஇருட்டு. Darkness so great that one knows not the points of compass or which way to go. திக்குநோக்கித்தெண்டனிடல். Making obeisance toward the place where a person is-a term of respect or reverence used in epistolary writings. திக்கெல்லாம்வெடிபடப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks loud enough to disturb all the points of compass. அஷ்டதிக்கு, s. The eight points of the compass are: 1. கிழக்கு, East. 2. தென் கிழக்கு, South-east. 3. தெற்கு, South. 4. தென்மேற்கு. South-west. 5. மேற்கு, West 6. வடமேற்கு, North-west. 7. வடக்கு, North. 8. வடகிழக்கு, North-east. Some add two others விசும்பு, the heavens or etherial regions, and பாதாளம், the abyss. தசதிக்கு--தசதிசை, s. The ten points for astrological purposes especially in choosing spots for building houses, &c., are named after certain animals. 1. கிழக்கு. கருடதிசை. 2. தென்கிழக்கு. பூனை த்திசை. 3. தெற்கு. சிங்கத்திசை. 4. தென்மேற்கு. கனகதிசை. 5. மேற்கு. நாகதிசை. 6. வடமே ற்கு, எலித்திசை. 7. வடக்கு. யானைத்திசை. 8. வடகிழக்கு. முயற்றிசை. 9. விசும்புத்திசை. 1. பாதாளத்திசை, which see.--Note The animals of the opposite points are natural foes to each other, the one being pursuer, and the other, the pursued. திக்கடைப்பு--திக்கெல்லை, s. [prov.] Boundaries of land, as mentioned in title deeds. திக்கற்றவன், appel. n. A forlorn, destitute, forsaken person. திக்காக, inf. [adverbiality.] In the direction of, toward. கிழக்குத்திக்காகப்போ. Go directly east. திக்காதிக்கு--திக்காலுக்கு, [prov.] In various directions, here and there, பலதிசையிலும். திக்காலுக்கொருத்தராய்ப்போய்விட்டார்கள். They are gone, are scattered in various directions. திக்கியானை, s. The elephants of the eight cardinal points, male and female supporters of the earth are:-1. East Male ஐராவதம். Female அப்பிரமை. 2. North. ,, சாருவபூமம். ,, அஞ்சனை. 8. N. E. ,, சுப்பிரதீபம். ,, அஞ்சனாவதி. திக்குக்கட்ட--திசைகட்ட, inf. To bind or fortify the cardinal points by turning to each point, repeating the incantation, as இந்திராயநம, and prostrating in worship, to the regent whose protection is sought; then turning to the next point. திக்குக்கட்டு--திக்குப்பந்தனம், v. noun. Fortifying one's self on all sides by incantations, invoking the protection of the regents of the cardinal points. திக்குநோக்க, inf. To look in any direction, as expecting a friend, &c. 2. To direct one's course to any point. திக்குப்பாலகர்--திசாபாலகர், s. The regents of the eight cardinal points, as protectors of the earth, situated beyond the seventh circumambient sea, and invoked in the daily worship, &c. 1. இந்திரன், Indra, regent of the south-east, whose sign is இடி, the thunderbolt. 2. அக்கினி, Agni, regent of the south, east whose sign is புகை, smoke. 3. இயமன், Yama, regent of the south, whose sign is சிங்கம், lion. 4. நிருதி, Niruti, regent of the south-west, whose sign is நாய், a dog. 5. வருணன், Varuna, god of the waters, regent of the west, whose sign is இடபம், a bull. 6. வாயு, Vayu, god of the wind, regent of the north-west. whose sign is கழுதை, an ass. 7. குபேரன், Kuvera, god of riches, regent of the north, whose sign is யானை, an elephant. 8. ஈசானன், Isanan, regent of the northeast, whose sign காகம், a crow. திக்குப்பலி--திக்குப்பூசை, s. Performing puja. around a temple, toward the eight points, to obtain the protection of their regents. திக்குப்பல்லி, s. The chirping of a lizard, as indicating good or ill, according to the direction on which it is heard. திக்குமாறாட்டம், v. noun.
