The earth adhering to one's feet, taken for enchantments against him (வசியம்) or for witchcraft, காலிலொட்டியமண். அடிமயக்கு, s. Transposing the lines of a verse without destroying the sense, அடிமாற்றுகை. 2. A verse so formed, ஓர்பா, as, அங்கண்மதியமரவின்வாய்ப்பட்டென்ப, பூசல்வாயாப்புலம்புமனைகலங்கி. அடிமறிமண்டிலவாசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four kinds of ஆசிரியம், the lines of which are interchangeable at pleasure, the meaning remaining the same, ஓர்வகையாசிரியப்பா. அடிமறிமாற்றுப்பொருள்கோள், s. Construction in which the lines of a stanza are interchangeable, the harmony and meaning remaining the same, or the harmony only slightly affected. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which each line begins with the same letter, ஓர் வகை மோனைத்தொடை. அடியடியாக, adv. [prov.] In succession, as the descent of title, &c., தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக. அடியந்தாதி, s. A repetition in verse. See அந்தாதி. அடியளபெடை, s. Prolonging the sounds of long vowels at the beginning of every line, தொடைவிகற்பத்தொன்று. அடியறுக்கி, s. A flat piece of wood by which the potter marks his work and cuts it from the wheel below, மட்கலமறுக்குங்கருவி. அடியனாதி, s. Time immemorial, antiquity, தொன்றுதொட்டுள்ளகாலம். அடியார், s. [sing. அடியான்--அடி யாள்.] Slaves, servants as applied to devotees in reference to their deity, and used by persons of themselves in addressing superiors, to show respect, obedience or submission, தொண்டர். அடியிட, inf. To set on foot, commence an undertaking, a law suit, &c., தொடங்க. 2. To make a beginning in braiding--as the bottom of a basket, the first end of a mat, &c., பாய்முதலியவை முடைதற்கு அடியிட. அடியுரம், s. [prov.] Ancestral property, original stock. 2. Crop of a past year reserved for the sustenance of the following. 3. Manure put on the soil round a tree, &c., எரு. 4. The sky, the visible heavens, வானுலகம். 6. Ether, one of the five elements. See பூதம். அண்டகடாகம்--அண்டகோளம், s. The shell supposed to surround the earth and its attendant spheres. அண்டகோசம், s. The egg-shaped universe, முட்டை வடிவான அண்டம். 2. An astronomical treatise, ஓர்நூல். அண்டச்சுவர், s. Wall or shell of the mundane egg, அண்டபித்திகை. அண்டபகிரண்டம்--அண்டரண்ட பகிரண்டம், s. This world and the worlds beyond the mundane sphere; ex பஹி-பஹிஸ், outside. அண்டபிண்டம், s. The universe and the body; the latter is said to contain in embryo, or miniature, every thing found in the former. அண்டத்திலுள்ளதுபிண்டத்தில் உண்டு. What is in the world is also in the human body. அண்டமுகடு, s. The highest part or top of the imaginary shell that surrounds the solar system. அண்டயோனி, s. The sun, சூரி யன்; ex யோனி, the place of birth. அண்டரண்டம், s. The world of the gods; ex அண்டர், gods. அண்டர், s. The celestials or inhabitants of the supernal world, the gods, வானோர். 2. Foes, opponents, enemies, பகைவர். 3. Herdsmen, cowherds, shepherds, இடையர். (p.) அண்டவாணர், s. The gods, celestials. அண்டவாதம்--அண்டவாயு, s. Rupture, scrotal hernia, ஓர்நோய். பிரமாண்டம், s. aṉl (p. 33) s. Heat as of fever, warmth, a glow, உட்டணம். 2. (p.) Fire, தீ. 3. One of the twelve afflictions which a living body suffers, உயிர்வேதனையினொன்று. அனலசனபட்சி, s. A bird said to devour burning coals, &c., the ostrich, தழல்விழுங்கி. (p.) அனலி, s. The sun, சூரியன். (p.) அனலேறு, s. [ex ஏறு, entering.] The thunderbolt. (p.) அனலோடுவேந்தன், s. A kind of native arsenic. அனல்வீச, inf. To flame, be heated by taking spices, &c. அனற்பொறி, s. A spark of fire. (p.) வடவனல், s. The submarine fire, ஊழித்தீ. (p.) 86) *

aṉṉam (p. 34) s. Boiled rice, food in general, சோறு. Wils. p. 4. ANNA. அன்னக்களை, s. Faintness through hunger; languor on eating too much food when weak. அன்னக்காவடி, s. Boiled rice carried with ceremony under a canopy, &c. to be presented to the idol. 2. Boiled rice begged from house to house, to be distributed to mendicants. அன்னக்கொடி, s. A flag hoisted on a choultry to give notice that rice is distributed gratuitously. அன்னக்கொடை, s. Liberality in giving boiled rice. அன்னசத்திரம்--அன்னசாலை, s. A choultry where boiled rice is distributed gratuitously. அன்னசாரம்--அன்னரசம், s. The essence of food, chyle. Wils. p. 4. ANNARASA. 2. Conjee, rice-gruel, கஞ்சி. அன்னசுத்தி, s. Ghee, நெய். அன்னதாதா--அன்னதாதிரு, s. One who gives food, a charitable person. Wils. p. 4. ANNADATRU. அன்னதானம், s. The giving of boiled rice as alms; [ex தானம்.] Wils. p. 4. ANNADANA. அன்னதானப்பிரபு, s. A very liberal man who gives boiled rice daily, &c. அன்னபானம், s. Food and drink. அன்னபானாதிகள், s. Food, drink, &c. அன்னப்பாகு, s. (Anat.) Chyme. அன்னப்பால், s. The water strained from boiled rice, conjee. அன்னப்பிராசனம், s. The ceremony of feeding a child with rice for the first time--if a boy, on the sixth or any other even month afterwards, as the eighth, tenth, &c.--if a daughter, on any odd month after the sixth. The direction is given in காசிகாண்டம், and is regularly practised by Brahmans, குழ ந்தைக்குமுன்னர்ச்சோறூட்டல். Wils. p. 4. ANNAPRASHANA. அன்னமயகோசம், s. The gross material body, sustained by food--as one of the investitures or supports of any soul, சரீரம். See கோசம். Wils. p. 4. ANNAMAYAKOSHA. அன்னரேகை, s. [in palmistry.] A line on the hand indicating abundance of the means of support to him who has it, கையிரேகையினொன்று. அன்னவஸ்திரம், s. Food and clothing. அன்னவூறல், s. Rice-gruel, or water in which rice has been boiled, கஞ்சி. அன்னாபிடேகம்--அன்னாபிஷேகம், s. Anointing an idol with boiled rice. அன்னாலாத்தி, s. Lamps of boiled rice before an idol, or a new married couple, to dispel the fascination of unlucky eyes. See ஆலாத்தி. 9)

amai (p. 20) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To yield, come to a right state, submit, comply, obey, acquiesce, சம்மதிக்க. 2. To become settled, peaceable, quiet; to subside, படிய. 3. To be at one's disposal, as a thing that may be effected, acquired, brought to good order, &c., வசமாக. 4. To fit, suit, join nicely, be adapted to, இசைய. 5. To be destined, be subject to a divine appointment or destiny, good or bad, விதிக்குட்பட. 6. To be made, formed, adjusted, திருந்த. 7. To be satisfied, contented, composed, comfortable, resigned, திருத்தியாக. 8. (in the third person only) To be enough, sufficient, போ துமாக. 9. To happen, occur, come to pass, சம்பவிக்க. 1. To belong to, be connected or combined with, be appropriate to, பொ ருந்த. 11. To be obtained, அமர. (p.)--Note. Most of the meanings of this word have reference to the mind. சாஸ்திரத்திற்கமைந்துநடக்கிறவன், He is one who obeyed the shasters. ஐம்புலனமைந்தவன், s. One who has suppressed the five senses, or to whom the senses are subject. இது என்விசாரணைக்கமைந்த காரியம். It is a matter at my disposal. என்விருப்பத்திற்கமைந்தபடிநடந்தது. It has occurred to my satisfaction. சுகதுக்கம் ஊழின்படி அமையும். Good and evil are appointed according to former character. செயுநீர்மைசெய்யாதமைகலாவாறு. Owing to dissatisfaction at inability to do charity. (குறள். 22. அதி.) அமையவுண்மின். Eat enough. இரட்சிப்பு இறைவனுக்கமைந்தது. Salvation is of God. அமையாமை, neg. v. noun. Unsubmission, insubordination, disquietness, unfitness, கீழ்ப்படியாமை. அமைவு, v. noun. Subjection, subordination, acquiescence, பொருந்துகை. 2. Composure of mind, tranquillity, contentment, மனவமைதி. 3. Repression of the senses, subjection of the mental powers, அடக்கம். அமைவடக்கம், s. Concealment, security, silence. அமைவன், s. The god of the Jainas, அருகன். 2. An ascetic, துறந்தோன். 3. A ஞானி. 4. (in general.) One who controls the passions, அடக்கமுடையோன். 5. A learned man, அறிவுடையோன். (p.) 35)
