tattam (p. 223) s. Gift, present, donation, grant--as land, &c., with due formality, in presence of witnesses human or divine, ஈகை.--Note. The sun is often appealed to as witness, and water is poured, by the bestower of a grant or gift, on betelleaf and gold in the right hand of the receiver. 2. Adoption, சுவிகாரம். (Sans. An adopted son. தத்தம்பண்ண, inf. To make a grant, donations, &c. தத்தம்பண்ணிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To give with proper formality. தத்தம்பண்ணிவிட, inf. To devote a piece of land, a cow, &c., to a temple or a brahman. தத்தம்வாங்கிக்கொள்ள, inf. To adopt. தாராதத்தம், s. (St.) Giving a girl in marriage by placing betel-leaf, paddy, and gold in her hand, and pouring water on these, the god of fire being invoked as a witness. He is supposed in stand on the top of the flame on the occasion; [ex தாரா, wife.]. மனோதத்தம், s. Purpose formed in the mind to make a grant. 2. A vow to a deity who is called to witness. A bond given in return. 2. A copy of a bond. பிரதிட்டை--பிரதிஷ்டை, s. Consecration, dedication, by which a god is supposed to be brought into an image, ஆவாகனம். See பிராணப்பிரதிஷ்டை. (c.) 2. Four different sounds; 1. சூக்குமை, the sound from the navel--the supposed source of the air, or wind which gives intonation; 2. பைசந்தி, sound from the breast or lungs; 3. மத்திமை, sound from the throat or epiglottis; 4. வைகரி, articulate sound, from the tongue or mouth. அவருடையதுநல்லவாக்கு. His poetical composition is good. அவன்வாக்கிலேகேட்டேன். I heard it from his mouth. அமிர்தவாக்கு, s. A sweet word, a word of good omen--oppos. to விஷவாக்கு. வாக்காட, inf. To say, to speak. 2. See தானம், 15. வாக்குத்தானச்சனி, s. As இரண்டாமி டத்துச்சனி, under சனி. (R.) வாக்குத்தீட்சை--வாசகதீட்சை, s. Oral instruction--one of the modes of enlightening the mind of a disciple. See தீட்சை. வாக்குநாணயம், s. Fidelity to one's word, unfailing fulfilment of promises. வாக்குப்பிசக, inf. To slip, in words or utterance, as the tongue in pronunciation. 2. See பிசகு. வாக்குப்புரள--வாக்குமாற, inf. To fail in a promise, to break one's words. வாக்குப்புறப்படுதல், v. noun. The coming out of words from the mouth. வாக்குமூலம், s. A deposition in which the statements of complainants, defendants, and witnesses, are taken with their signatures. 2. [as adv. also வாக்கு முகாந்தரம்.] By word of mouth; upon one's assertion. வாக்குமூலம்வாங்குகிறது. Getting one's deposition as a magistrate. (Govt. usage.) வாக்குரோசம்--வாக்குரோஷம், s. Irritation from insulting words, irascibility. வாக்குவசீகரம், s. Cajoling, wheedling, இன்சொல். வாக்குவல்லபம், s. Emphatic and powerful language, oratorial speech. வாக்குவாதம், s. A disputation, a quarrel. வாக்குவிசேஷம், s. An effective speech. வாக்குவிற்க, inf. To give a binding promise, (lit.) to sell one's words (colloq.) நானவனுக்குவாக்குவிற்றிருக்கிறேன், தவறக்கூடா து.
