koṭu (p. 146) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To give, grant, afford, bestow, present, ஈய. 2. In combination, to issue--as commands; கட்டளையளிக்க; to communicate, impart--as knowledge, அறிவிக்க; to supply, give aid, உத விசெய்ய; to stay with the hand, or give support, முட்டுக்கொடுக்க; to create, give existence--as the Supreme Being, சிருட் டிக்க; to give place, to yield, இடங்கொடுக்க. Note.-- This word is generally used in its direct meanings of give, &c., only when there is a receiver, so as to correspond with வாங்க. It is therefore, except as to the elephant, incorrectly, though commonly, used in reference to the lower animals, Strictly also it implies the giving of a superior, to an inferior; but these distinctions are little noticed. When combined with the gerund of another verb or with a noun, the meaning is often modified--as சொல்லிக்கொடுக்க, to instruct, to teach; காட்டிக்கொடுக்க, to betray; முதுகு கொடுக்க, புறங்கொடுக்க, பின்கொடுக்க, to turn the back, to flee. கொடுப்பதொழியேல். Cease not to give [the poor.] கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல், v. noun. Dealing, bargaining. 2. Lending, borrowing, &c. அவனுக்குமெனக்குங்கொடுக்கல்வாங்கலுண்டு.... He and I have business transactions together. கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல்பண்ண, inf. To deal, bargain, barter; to lend and barrow. கொடுக்குமதி, s. [prov.] What is due to one, a debt. கொடாமை, v. noun. Not giving, withholding. கொடான். He will not give. கொடுத்துக்காட்ட, inf. To give and thus unintentionally encourage further application. கொடுத்துக்காட்டினால்விடார்கள். If you give way and encourage them, they will not let you be quiet. கற்றுக்கொடுக்க, inf. [loc.] To teach. சாகக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lose by death-as a mother her child, &c. புருஷனையுமகனையுஞ்சாகக்கொடுத்தேன்..... I have given my husband and son to death--lost them by death. நிறங்கொடுக்க, inf. To tinge, give a color. 2. To be sleek, smooth, plump-as a person in health. பால்பழங்கொடுக்க, inf. To present milk and peeled plantain--as the bride, to the bridegroom; the first food supplied to him. பெண்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a girl in marriage. முடித்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To finish and give to another. 2. To marry; to give in marriage. வாங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To take and give, that is, buy for another. கொடுப்பன--கொடுப்பனை, v. noun. Giving in marriage, கொள்வனை is receiving or marrying. எங்களுக்குமவர்களுக்குங் கொள்வினைகொடுப்பினை யில்லை. vāngku (p. 383) கிறேன், வாங்கினேன், வேன், வா ங்க, v. a. To receive or take a thing, ஏற்க. 2. To buy, கொள்ள. 3. To bend, வளைக்க. 4. To admit, to receive a person, வரவழைக்க. 5. To draw back, retract, withdraw, பின் வாங்க. இதைஎங்கேவாங்கினாய். Where did you buy this? சுவர்சற்றுவாங்கியிருக்கிறது......The wall has given way a little. உன்கையைவாங்கு. Take a way your hand. ஒருவனைக்கையைவாங்குகிறது. Cutting one's hand off. இதைநீவாங்கிக்கொள். Take this. வாங்காமல், as adv. Without intermission, incessantly. வாங்காமலிறைத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். They were drawing water continually. என்வீட்டுக்குவாங்காமல்வருகிறான். He always comes to my house. வாங்கி, appel. n. [vul] A pimp. (lit.) one whe receives. See சங்கம்வாங்கி. வாங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To buy for another. See கொடு. வாங்கிப்போக, inf. To go off, to cease. தண்டுவாங்கிப்போயிற்று. The army has decamped. மேகம்வாங்கிப்போயிற்று. The clouds are dispersed. நோவுவாங்கிப்போயிற்று......The pain has ceased. வாங்கிப்போட, inf. To take off, to remove. அவனுக்குத்தியோகத்தைவாங்கிப்போட்டார். He dismissed him. வாங்க, v. noun. Receiving, or admitting, ஏற்றல், வரவழைத்தல். 2. Buying, கொ ள்ளல். 3. Bending, crookedness, bend of a wall, &c., வளைவு. (சது.) 4. Untoward feeling, மனஸ்தாபம். 5. Distance, தூரம். 6. Depth, ஆழம். இரண்டுபேருக்கும்வாங்கலாயிருக்கிறது. They both have ill-will against each other. அதுக்கிதுவாங்கல். This is farther than that. இந்தநிலம்வாங்கலாயிருக்கிறது. This ground is slippery.
