pulmai (p. 326) s. Wisdom, knowledge, learning, கல்வி. 2. Talent in composition, poetic ability, பாண்டித்தியம். புலமையர்--புலமையோர், s. [pl.] Poets, the learned, புலவர்.--Note. Poets are of four classes: 1. கவி, one who composes any of the four kinds of poetry, called ஆசு, மதுரம், சித்திரம், வித்தாரம். See கவி; 2. கமகன், one who treats abstruse subjects in a natural and agreeable manner; 3. வாதி, one who by adducing reasons, and quoting authors, confutes the doctrines of another and establishes his own; 4. வாக்கி, one who treats on the four classes of subjects, அறம், பொருள், இன்பம், வீடு, and is thus a rhetorician in ethics. 21)
