cittu (p. 183) s. Intellect, intelligence, the principle of knowledge or intellect in the deity, or human souls; spirit (as opposed to சடம் or அசித்து, matter or non-intelligence) in all its diversified forms in the various beings inhabiting the universe, whether supernal, infernal, human, brute or vegetable; all being capable of knowing and enjoying the deity, அறிவுப்பொருள். W. p. 325. CHIT. 2. (a change of சித்தி.) Illimitable and supernatural powers, obtained by abstract devotion, and exercised at pleasure; including the eight சித்தி, which see. 3. Legerdemain, sleight of hand, exhibition of supernatural appearances by means of magic, alchemy, &c., மாயாவித்தை. 4. The யாகம் sacrifice. சித்திலாதபோதுவேறுசீவனில்லையில்லையே. When there is no intelligence, there is no life. i. e. to deny intelligence [as a first cause.] is to deny that there is life. சித்தசித்து, s. Spirit and matter, or intelligence and non-intelligence--as eternal, uncreated principles in nature. சித்தசித்தீசுரன், s. Spirit, matter, and God--as constituting the world. (p.) சித்தாகாரம், s. Spirituality, incorporeality belonging to the spirit or intellect, as refined, purified and tending toward the deity; [ex ஆகாரம், form.] சித்துக்காரன், s. As சித்துவித்தைக்காரன். சித்துப்பறக்க, inf. To fly or pass through ether, as the சித்தர். 2. (fig.) To disappear, as a person; spoken in surprise or contempt. 3. (fig.) To carry one's self proudly, to take airs; to be supercilious. சித்துப்பொருள், s. An intelligent being, the faculty of intelligence, as in the deity or a soul--oppo. to சடப்பொருள். சித்துரூபம்--சிற்சொரூபம், s. Imbodied intelligence, a spiritual nature. 2. The deity as identified with the intellect. சித்துரூபன்--சிற்சொரூபன், s. The deity as a pure intelligence, கடவுள். சித்துவித்தை, s. As சித்து, 3. சித்துவித்தைகற்றவன்--சித்துவித்தைக் காரன், s. ceppṭi (p. 203) --செப்படிவித்தை, s. Legerdemain, sleight of hand--from the practice of striking a cup on the ground with the ball under it, செப்புவித்தை. 2. Tricks, deceptive arts, illusion, உபாயம். (c.) 3. [prov.] (fig.) Contrivance, to economize, by dealing out in small quantities, சிக்கனம். செப்படிவித்தைக்காரன், s. One who practises legerdemain. 2. (fig.) A deceitful person, உபாயக்காரன். செப்படிபண்ண--செப்படிவித்தைபண் ண, inf. To practise legerdemain, especially with cup and ball. 2. To play tricks, deceive; practise cheating and knavery. 3. To make a veriety of things from the same material; to manage with great economy; (not spoken in the credit of the person.) 34)

tampaṉam (p. 224) --ஸ்தம்பனம், s. (sometimes தம்பம்.) Stopping, restraining, hindering the power of fire; stopping a flow of water or blood; checking the ferocity of wild beasts; causing a person or spirit to stand immovably in a place; suppressing bodily faculties; depriving one of the power of speech, action, motion; suspending natural qualities, அசைவறநிறுத்துகை.-There are different kinds, as அக்கினித்தம்ப னம், கட்கத்தம்பனம், சலத்தம்பனம், சுக்கிலத்தம்ப னம், திஷ்டித்தம்பனம், பூதத்தம்பனம், வாயுத்தம்பனம், which see in their places, as given with ஸ்தம்பம் termination and in கலைஞானம். தம்பனகாரன்--தம்பனவித்தைக்காரன், s. A magician, a conjurer who exercises magic powers to stop or restrain as above. தம்பனக்குளிகை, s. A magical pill. See குளிகை. தம்பனவித்தை. That art of restraining by magic. கன்னத்தம்பனம், s. Stopping the discovery of hidden things. 5)

Dissimulation, deceit. மாயஞ்செய்தல், v. noun. Juggling, மாரீசம்பண்ணல். மாயப்பெண், s. A disguised woman, or a man in the garb of a woman, as வேஷப்பெண். மாயமாலம், s. A deceitful devil, வஞ் சனையுள்ளபேய். (R.) மாயரூபம், s. A phantom, shadow, as மாயாரூபம். மாயமடிக்க, inf. To dissemble. மாயவாக்கை, s. Unstable or mortal body; [ex ஆக்கை.] (p.) மாயவாழ்வு, s. Arts displaying skill, சித்திரத்தொழில். 4. Magic, jugglery, காரடவித்தை.--It retains its Sans. pronunciation in most of the compounds. வித்தியாசாலை, s. A college. வித்தியாதத்துவம், s. A department of knowledge, one of the தத்துவத்திரயம். According to the Saivas, it includes; 1. காலம், time; 2. நியதி, fate; 3. கலை, science; 4. வித்தை, arts; 5. இராகம், desire; 6. புரு டன் or ஆன்மா, soul; 7. மாயை, matter. வித்தியாதரர், s. [pl.] Lords of learning, learned men, poets, வித்தை யாளர். வித்துவசிரோமணி, s. One trancendently eminent for learning. வித்துவாமிசன்--வித்துவான், s.
