iḷi (p. 56) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To grin, show the teeth--as in cringing, craving, &c., பல்லிளிக்க. 2. To laugh in a silly manner, to simper, giggle, களகளவெனச்சிரிக்க. 3. v. a. To ridicule, scorn, deride, பரிகாசஞ்செய்ய. 4. To disgrace, contemn, அவமதிக்க. (c.) இளித்தவாய்ப்பட்டம், s. Notoriety for grinning, இளிச்சவாயனெனப்படுகை. 2. The character of a sauntering idler. 3. The state or character of one baffled or defeated in his projects. குரங்குபோலிளித்தவாயன். One who grins like a monkey. பல்லையிளிக்க, inf. To laugh foolishly. இளிச்சற்கண், s. Blear eyes, eyes sore with rheum. இளிப்பு--இளிவு, v. noun. Grinning, simpering, tittering, பல்லிளிக்கை. 2. Ridicule, scorn, derision, இழிவு. 3. Disgrace, நிந்தை. நாயையடித்துப்பல்லிளிவுபார்க்கிறதினாலேயென் ன? What will it avail to strike a dog and then look at its grin? [prov.] எள்ளினிளிவாமென்றெண்ணி. Considering that it would be disrespectful to neglect him. (குறள்.) 8)

uppu (p. 62) s. Salt, any species of salt, acid or alkaline, லவணம். 2. Saltness, உவர்ப்பு. 3. The sea of salt-water-as distinguished from the other seas of Hindu cosmogony, the ocean, கடல். 4. Sweetness, deliciousness, இனிமை. (கு. 382. 8.) 5. A kind of play among females, மகளிர்விளையா ட்டு. 6. Melody, music, அராகம். 7. A heap of sand used as a goal in the game of prison-bars, விளையாட்டுமணற்குவியல். --Note. Five salts are spoken of as used by alchymists and சித்தாதிகள்; viz.: 1. கறியுப்பு, culinary salt. 2. வெடியுப்பு, salt-petre. 3. இந்துப்பு, a fossil, medicinal salt. 4. ஓட்டு ப்பு, salt supposed to be formed in the skull. 5. அமரியுப்பு, Urinary salt. இந்தப்பேச்சிலேஉப்பில்லை. This speech is void of savor. உப்பங்கழி, s. Salt-pan, உப்புக் கழி. உப்பளம், s. Salt-works, salt-pans, உப்புவிளைநிலம். 2. Brackish land, கழி. உப்பளங்கட்ட, inf. To construct salt-pans. உப்பளம்பாய்ச்ச, inf. To convey water into the salt-pans. உப்பளவர்--உப்பமைப்போர், s. Saltmanufacturers. உப்பிட--உப்புப்போட, inf. To salt. உப்பில்லாப்பேச்சு, s. Insipid discourse. உப்புக்கசனை--உப்பூறணி, s. Being impregnated with salt, as land. உப்புக்கட்டி, s. A granulation on a lump of salt. உப்புக்கண்டம், s. Salted meat, a piece of saltfish, flesh, &c. உப்புக்கண்டம்பறிகொடுத்தபார்ப்பாத்திபோல.... Like a Brahmanee who has lost her salted mutton [prov.], used when something is lost which cannot to inquired after. உப்புக்கரித்தல்--உப்புக்கூர்த்தல், v. noun. Having a saline taste. உப்புக்கீரை, s. A plant used for curry, ஓர்வகைக்கீரை. 2. A kind of curry made of that plant, ஓர்கறி. உப்புக்குத்தி, s. A kind of bird, ஓர்பட்சி. உப்புக்கொள்ளுகிறது, s. A play, taking a child on the back and crying, Salt for sale, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. உப்புச்செய்ய--உப்புவிளைவிக்க-உப்பமைக்க, inf. To make salt, உப்புண் டாக்க. உப்புத்தண்ணீர், s. Salt-water, brackish water. உப்புத்தரை--உப்புத்தரவை, s. Brackish soil. உப்புத்திராவகம், s. Muriatic acid, இலவணதிராவகம். உப்புத்திரி, s. A twist dipped in a preparation of salt, to serve as an injection for a child, மலங்கழிக்கஏற்றுந்திரி. உப்புப்பட, inf. To form as salt in pans, &c., by natural process, உப்புண் டாக. உப்புப்பாத்தி, s. The division or beds in salt-pans. உப்புப்பாத்திகட்ட, inf. To make salt-pans. உப்புப்பார்க்க, inf. To try the seasoning of curry, &c. by the taste, உப்புருசிபார்க்க. உப்புப்பால், s. The milk of the mother after child birth for three days. உப்புப்புல்லு, s. Grass growing in salt soil. உப்புப்பூக்க--உப்புப்பொரிய, inf. To begin to form--as salt; to form as the lamina, உப்புமலர. 2. To have a pale color on the skin, perhaps a concretion from perspiration, சரீரத்திலுப்புப்படர. உப்புப்புளிதள்ள, inf. To abstain from salt and acid things--a regimen in medical prescriptions. உப்புப்புளிப்புப்பார்க்க, inf. To examine the taste of curries, சுவையினிசை வுபார்க்க. 2. (fig.) To examine, make inquiry beforehand. பரீட்சைபார்க்க. 3. (fig.) To try or examine a part of a work, &c. in order to form an estimate of the whole. உப்புவாணிகர், s. Salt dealers, the caste, உமணர். உப்புவாணிகனறிவானோகர்ப்பூரவிலை? Is a salt dealer acquainted with the price of camphor? உப்புறைப்பு, s. Saltishness, flavoring of salt, உப்புக்கரிப்பு. காய்ச்சுப்பு or சவட்டுப்பு, s. Alkali, salt produced from the earth impregnated with soda. வழலையுப்பு, s. Soap. கறியுப்பு--கடலுப்பு, s. Sea-salt. காருப்பு, s. Salt produced from sesamum seed, கடுந்திலாலவணம். வளையலுப்பு, s. Fel vitri, glassgall; a very white salt. கல்லுப்பு, s. Salt in lumps. கந்தகவுப்பு, s. Salt produced from sulphur. கறுத்தவுப்பு, s. Black salt produced from the ashes of certain plants. மரவுப்பு, s. Potash. 63)

uḷvu (p. 67) s. Realities, internal or secret affairs, உட்காரியம். 2. Secrets, or internal affairs, seen or ascertained by a spy to be revealed to others, இரகசியசமாசாரம். 3. Spying, prying, espionage, வேவு. 4. A spy, ஒற்றன்; [ex உள், inside.] உளவில்லாமற்களவில்லை. No robbery takes place without a spy. உளவடைக்குதல், v. noun. Defending one by excusing his faults. உளவறிய, inf. To learn the secrets of a person, family, state, &c., for some sinister object. உளவன்--உளவாளி--உளவாள்-உளவுகாரன், s. A spy, a scout. உளவனில்லாமலூரழியாது. Without a spy the country cannot be destroyed. உளவுகண்டவன், s. One who is acquainted with the secrets of another. உளவனாக்க, inf. To engage one in order to fish out the secrets of another. உளவுசொல்ல, inf. To discover or expose secrets, உள்ளானவைகளையறிந்துசொ ல்ல. உளவுபார்க்க, inf. To spy, pry into, or expose another's affairs for a bad purpose, வேவுபார்க்க. 37)

To obtain easily. சுளுவானவழி, s. A short cut, சுருக்க மானபாதை. 2. Easy method or schemeful measures, இலேசானவழி. சுளுவுபார்க்க--சுளுவிலேபார்க்க, inf. To seek at a reduced price. சுளுவுபண்ண, inf. cōr (p. 212) --சோரு, கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், சோ ர, v. n. To languish, droop; to be prostrate of lifeless, as the limbs in sleep; to be weary, tired, exhausted, faint, தரை. 2. To faint, swoon, களைக்க. 3. To be infatuated or love-sick, மதிமயங்க. 4. To slip off, slip down as clothes, to become uncovered--as a person asleep, சீலைசோர. 5. To be dejected, dispirited, melancholy, மனஞ்சோர. 14. To grow slack, loose, &c.--as a rope, அவிழ. 15. To fall-as rain in a shower, சொரிய. 16. [improp. for சுவறு, (v.)] To be absorbed in the system as oil, &c. (c.) சோர்ந்துகிடக்கிறான். He is fainting or languishing. சோரப்போட, inf. To let an affair the still. 2. To let a commodity lie. in hopes of getting it cheaper. 3. To appear careless, as an adversary, till an opportunity offer. சோரத்தேய்க்க, inf. To rub oil well in. See சுவறத்தேய்க்க. சோரப்பெய்ய, inf. To rain profusely. சோரவிட, inf. To go slack--as a rope. 2. To let slip, literally or figuratively. காரியத்தைச்சோரவிடாதே. Do not let the business drop. சோர்ந்துபோக, inf. To become weary, faint; to droop, &c., to despond. 2. To be stolen, pilfered. 3. To be cheated. கைசோர்ந்துபோக, inf. To be paralyzed, or weary in the arms. சோர்ந்துவிழ, inf. To faint and fall, to slip off. சோர்வாதம், s. [prov.] Loss of life or power in a limb, &c., அயர்ச்சி. கைகால்சோர, inf. To droop--as to the limbs. சொற்சோர, inf. To falter in voice. 2. To fall in a promise. சோரல், v. noun. Drooping, fainting. சோர்தல். சோர்--சோர்பு, v. noun. Sadness. 2. Lassitude. சோர்வு, v. noun. Languishing, drooping, swooning, சோர்தல். 2. Weakness, failure in strength or mental powers, மெலிவு. 3. Carelessness, listlessness. inattention, negligence, remissness in duty, மறதி. 4. Dropping, falling off, slipping off--as clothes, trickling down, சீலைமுதலியனசோர்கை. 5. That which is lost by theft, or embezzlement, இழந்து விடுகை. 6. Moral blemish, fault, failure, ஒழுக்கஞ்சோர்கை. 7. Dejection, despondency, மனத்தளர்ச்சி. 8. Growing slack or loose, சுழலுகை. சோர்வறப்படித்தவன், appel. n. One who has learned thoroughly. சோர்வாய்ப்போக, inf. To be lost, to disappear. சோர்வில்லாமுயற்சி, s. Indefatigable energy and application. சோர்வுபார்க்க, inf.
