The eight special mountains (அஷ்டகிரி), in Jambu Dwipa are Kailasa, கைலை or வெள்ளிமலை; Himalaya, இமயம், or பனிமலை; Mandara, மந்தரம் or கடலைக்கடைந்த மலை; Vindhya, விந்தம் or ஆரியதேசத் தென்புறத் தெல்லைமலை; Nishada, நிடதம், or நிடதநாட்டுமலை; Hémakúda, ஏமகூடம் or பொன்மலை; Nilagiri, நீலகிரி or அஸ்தமிக்குமலை; Gand'hamadan, கந்தமா தனம் or மேருவின்கீழ்பாலுள்ளமலை. (Rott. Other authorities say Malyavan on the east; Gand'hamadan on the west; Nishatha, Hémakúda and Himalaya on the south; Nila, Sveda and Sringa on the north of Méru (காந்.)
