To those who have adored, at the feet of him who is without desire or aversion, there shall be no suffering for eternity. 101) *

iṉi (p. 57) adv. Now, immediately, presently, இப்பொழுது. 2. Henceforth, hereafter, பின்பு. 3. A particle of place, from this limit, onward, இப்பால். (நன்னூல்.) இனிக்கள்ளமில்லை. There is no more injurious, offensive matter, &c., no longer any alloy, spuriousness, &c. இனிக்காரியமில்லை. There is no further business. There is no more hope for him--said of a dying man, &c. இனிநம்மெல்லை. We are now close on our limit; we approach our boundary. இனிப்பிழைக்கிறதா? Can he possibly survive? (he will certainly die). இனிப்பேசு. Now you may speak, there is no longer any restraint. இனிப்போதும். Now there is enough. இனிமேல். Hereafter, at some future time. இனியார்? Who else? இனியாற்றாது. I am unable to proceed further (I am altogether exhausted). இனியெங்கேபோவாய்? Whither will you go next? What further resource is left you? இனியென்னசெய்வாய்? What can you do further? இனிவேண்டாம். It is needed no longer, or no more is required. பண்டறியேன்கூற்றென்பதனையினியறிந்தேன்.... Formerly I knew not, but now I know who Yama is. (குறள்.) 46)

uṭṉ (p. 59) s. A particle of time and place used in combination with other words and expressing co-existence, accompaniment--a form of the third case or the social ablative, மூன்றாம்வேற்றுமையின்சொல்லு ருபு. 2. Instantly, immediately, at once, அப்பொழுதே. உடனாளி, appel. noun. Companion, co-partner, கூட்டாளி. 2. (Rott.) A man of property. உடனிகழ்ச்சி--உடனிகழ்தல்--உ டனிகழ்வு, v. noun. Co-existing, happening simultaneously. 2. A term in grammar implying co-existence, concomitan cy. உடனிகழ்ச்சிப்பொருள். ஒடுவென்பதுடனிகழ்வைக்காட்டும். The particle ஒடு shows accompaniment. உடனிலைமயக்கம்--உடனிலைமெய் மயக்கம், s. [in orthography.] The combination of two consonants of the same kind--as அக்கம், அச்சம், opp. to வேற்றுநிலை மெய்மயக்கம். உடனுக்குடனே. The very instant, at the very juncture, immediately succeeding another event. பாம்புகடித்தவுடனுக்குடனேபிரயோகம்பண்ணிக் கொண்டான். He applied the remedy as soon as the snake bit him. உடனுற்றவன், s. A servant of the same class with another. உடனே, adv. Immediately. 2. prep. With, together with. ஒருசாமமானவுடனே. Immediately after the first watch. அவனதைச்சொன்னவுடனே. As soon as he had said it. என்னுடனேவா. Come along with me. உடனொத்தபங்காளி, s. An equal sharer. உடனொத்தவன், s. An equal, a fellow, an acquaintance, a compeer. உடன்கட்டையேற, inf. To ascend the funeral pile--as a Hindu widow with her deceased husband, அனுமரணம டைய; [ex கட்டை, log of wood.] உடன்கூட்டு, s. Co-partnership, fellowship, உடன்சேர்க்கை. உடன்கூட்டாளி, s. Co-partner, participator. உடன்கை. [prop. உடனே.] Immediately succeeding, just after, as soon as. வேலைசெய்துமுடிந்தவுடன்கையிலேகாசுகிடைக் கும். The wages will be paid as soon as the work is done. உடன்பங்காளி, s. A joint-sharer or participator, a co-partner, கூட்டுப்பங் காளி. 2. A co-heir, joint-heir, a brother's sons having a right to share in the family property, உடன்சுதந்தரவாளி. உடன்பங்கு, s. A joint-share, equal share (whether in trade, inheritance, land or otherwise), participation, joint-heirship, கூட்டுப்பங்கு. உடன்பட, inf. [com. உடம்பட.] To agree, assent, consent, acquiesce, harmonize with, சம்மதிப்பட. 2. To engage, contract, form a compact, பொருந்த. 3. To undertake, enter upon, உடம்படிக்கை செய்ய. 4. To answer in the affirmative, மறாதிருக்க. 5. To be privy to, to have a hand in, சேர. 6. To yield, submit, comply, இசைய. உடன்படிக்கை, s. [com. உடம்ப டிக்கை.] A contract, agreement, compact, covenant, engagement, &c., written or verbal, சம்மதிப்பத்திரம். 2. A promise, assurance, உறுதிப்பாடு. உடன்படுத்த, inf. To induce consent, to make willing, சம்மதிப்படுத்த. 2. To unite, reconcile, இசைவிக்க. உடன்படுவிலக்கு, s. A figure of speech by which a negation is couched in affirmative words--as அப்போதடுப்ப தறியேனருள்செய்ய இப்போதிவளுமிசைகின்றாள்-தப்பில், பொருளோபுகழோதரப்போவீர்மாலை இரு ளோநிலவோவெழும். (அலங்காரம்.) உடன்பட்டகடமை, s. A covenanted obligation. உடன்பாடு--உடம்பாடு, s. Harmony, concord, union, fellowship, agreement, பொருத்தம். 2. Compact, covenant, engagement, உடம்படிக்கை. 3. Consent, assent, compliance, acquiescence, சம்மதிக் கை. 4. Being concerned in, complicity, உடந்தை. 5. Affirmation, மறாமை. 6. [in grammar.] Positive or affirmative--as opposed to negative terms, or negative forms of expression, விதி. உடம்பாடிலாதவர்வாழ்க்கைகுடங்கருட்பாம்போ டுடனுறைந்தற்று. Those who live in discord are as if enclosed in a vessel with a live snake. உடன்பாட்டுவினை, s. A verb in the affirmative form, விதிவினை. உடன்பிறந்தவர்கள்--உடன்பிறந் தார், s. Own full brothers or sisters. உடன்பிறந்தார்சுற்றத்தாரென்றிருக்கவேண்டாம். Because born with you, do not imagine them to be your friends. உடன்பிறப்பு, s. [impr. உடப்பிறப் பு.] Connascence, கூடப்பிறக்கை. 2. Offspring of the same parents, an own brother or sister. 87)

ent (p. 73) adj. prefix. Which, what, வினா. --Note. எந்த is sometimes doubled-as எந்தெந்த, and used before a word ending with an உம் which is called முற்றும்மை, or with ஆனாலும், and then it signifies whosoever, whatsoever--as எந்தெந்தச்சமயத்திலும், at any time whatsoever; எந்தெந்தவார்த்தையானா லும்எண்ணாமலுச்சரிக்கவேண்டாம், Utter no word whatever before you have considered it. எந்தவூரிலும்செல்லும். It will pass in any country. எந்தக்கை. Which hand? எந்தச்சுமை. Which burden? எந்தத்தொழில். What business? எந்தப்பானை. Which vessel? எந்தமட்டும். How far? how great? how long? how much? 60)

ōtu (p. 84) கிறேன், ஓதினேன், வேன், ஓத, v. a. To recite the vedas with appropriate intonations, aspirations, &c.--being one of the six duties of the brahman; to chant a sacred eulogy in the temple, வேத மோத. 2. To read, learn, recite audibly in order to commit to memory, படிக்க. 3. To speak, say, declare, சொல்ல. 4. To repeat prayers--as the Romanists and Mohomedans, செபமுச்சரிக்க. 5. To give advice, persuade clandestinely, to teach one to act with duplicity, புத்திசொல்ல. 6. To utter incantations, to consecrate, மந்திரமுரைக்க. ஓதாதார்க்கில்லையுணர்வுடனொழுக்கம். Knowledge and good manners are not to be found in unlearned men. ஓதாமலொருநாளுமிருக்கவேண்டாம். Employ your whole time in the pursuit of knowledge. ஓதுவதொழியேல். Cease not to learn. (ஔ வை.) எண்ணெயோதிக்கொடுக்கிறது. To administer holy oil to women in labor. காதிலேயோதிவிட்டான். He has given him secret advice, he has prevailed on him by underhand or secret means. நூறுநாளோதியாறுநாள்விடத்தீரும். The traces of learning made in a hundred days will be effaced by indolence in six. ஓதியிறைக்க, inf. To sprinkle holy water. ஓதியுடைக்க, inf. To break a cocoanut with appropriate incantations. ஓதிவிட, inf. To cease reading. ஓதினநீர், s. Holy water, consecrated water. ஓதுவான், s. A teacher of the vedas, and other sacred literature, ஆசா ன். 2. A learner, a scholar, a student, படிப்பவன். 3. The eulogist of the god of the temple whose duty it is to chant the verses directed by the attending priest, திருப்பாட்டுப்பாடுவோன். ஓதுவானெல்லாமுழுவான்றலைக்கடையில். The scholar must wait at the backdoor of the ploughman; i. e. learning is dependent on the plough. ஓதுவிக்க, inf. To teach the vedas, வேதங்கற்பிக்க. 2. To teach science, instruct, படிப்பிக்க. ஓதல், v. noun. Reciting the vedas, &c. 2. Reading. 3. Learning, speaking. ஓதலினன்றேவேதியர்க்கொழுக்கம். Good manners in a brahman are preferable to the recitation of the vedas. ஓதற்றொழிலுரித்துயர்ந்தோர்மூவர்க்கும். The right of reciting the vedas belongs to the three superior classes; i. e. brahmans, kings, and merchants. (அகப்.) ஓதன்மை, v. noun. The act of reading, ஓதற்றன்மை. 2. Chanting, பாடல். (p.) 91)

kẕuttu (p. 98) s. The neck of a person, brute, thing, &c., கண்டம். கழுத்தடி, s. The lower part of the nape of the neck, தோண்மேல். கழுத்தறுக்க, inf. To cut the throat, to server the wind-pipe. முன்விட்டுப்பின்னின்றுகழுத்தறுக்கலாமோ...... Would you bid one take precedence and then cut his throat? ஒருவன்கழுத்திலேகட்டிவிட. To devolve unpleasant consequences on another. 2. To attribute a crime or blame to a person. 3. To impose on another unsaleable goods, or a woman ineligible for marriage. கழுத்திடுகயிறு, s. Halter for a beast. கழுத்திருத்த, inf. To have the neck pressed down with a heavy load. (c.) கழுத்திலேகயிறுபோட, inf. To threaten self-immolation for the purpose of recovering debts, &c. 2. To be very treacherous, insidious, perfidious. (c.). கழுத்துக்குட்டை, s. A neckcloth, a cravat. (c.) கழுத்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lay down the neck for another on the block, to subject one's self to inconvenience or danger. 2. To expose one's life by a commission of crime. 3. To submit to the yoke as bullocks. கழுத்துச்சந்து, s. The joint of the neck. கழுத்துச்சுளுக்கு, s. Straining of the ligaments of the neck by violent turning of the head. கழுத்துத்திருக, inf. To wring off the head of a fowl, &c. 2. To throttle, twist the head. கழுத்துநெடியபானை, s. A longnecked pot. கழுத்துப்பட்டிகை, s. A collar, a cape. கழுத்துப்பட்டை, s. The collar of a cloak. கழுத்துப்பருத்திருக்க, inf. To have a thick neck. கழுத்துப்பொருத்தம், s. One of the ten பொருத்தம் for marriage, மணப்பொருத்தம் பத்திலோன்று. (c.) கழுத்துமுறிக்க--கழுத்தைமுறிக்க, inf. To break the neck--spoken of the power, &c., of demons. வேண்டாமென்றுகழுத்தைமுறிக்கிறான். He absolutely refuses, it is very repugnant to his feelings, &c. கழுத்துவெட்டி, s. A cut-throat, a betrayer, an assassin. (c.) கழுத்தூட்டி, s. The throat. (p.) கழுத்தேறுதண்டம், s. nñcu (p. 267) s. Poison, venom, விஷம். (சது.) (c.) 2. [adjectively in combin.] Malignant, baneful, pernicious, fatal, தீமை. 3. (fig.) The after-birth, as நஞ்சுக்கொடி. நஞ்சுடனேஒருநாளும்பழகவேண்டாம். Never keep company with a mallignant person. அவன்படுநஞ்சு. He is rank person. நல்லுறவில்நஞ்சுகலக்க. To sow discord among friends. நஞ்சன், s. A malignant person. நஞ்சுகக்க, inf. To eject or infuse poison, as a snake, &c.,விஷம்கக்க. நஞ்சுகரந்த அமுதம், s. Something good covering what is bad. 2. (fig.) One with pleasant words, but a malevolent heart. நஞ்சுகரையல். v. noun. Dissolving of the secundiness without parturition, which is fatal to the mother. நஞ்சறுப்பான், s. A medicinal creeper. See நச்சறுப்பான். நஞ்சிட, inf. To make of infuse poison into food, &c. 2. To poison a person or animal. 3. To imbue a weapon with poison. 4. To do evil to one secretly. நஞ்சிட்டுக்கொல்ல, inf. To kill one by giving him any mixture of poison. நஞ்சுகலந்தஅமுதம், s. [sometimes. நஞ் சுபொதிந்தஅமுதம்.] Nectar impregnated with poison; i. e. fair professions with malicious designs. நஞ்சுகழலல், v. noun. Exuding as the poison of a snake from its fangs. நஞ்சுக்கொடி, s. The cord of the secundines. 2. After-birth, secundines. (c.) நச்சுக்கொடியும், s. The funicle and secundines. நஞ்சுடைமை, s. Having poison. (மூது ரை.) நஞ்சுண்டோன்--நஞ்சுண்ணி, appel. n. Siva, as swallowing poison. See ஆல கண்டன். நஞ்சுதின்ன, inf. To take poison. நஞ்சுதின்றுசாக, inf. To die by poisoning one's self. (c.) நஞ்சுபற்றுதல், v. noun. The taking effect of poison in the body; attack of poison on the brain, விஷமேறுதல். 2. The producing of ill effects by retention of the after-birth. நஞ்சுமுறிக்க, inf. As நஞ்செடுக்க. நஞ்சுமுறிச்சான், appel. n. [vul.] A நஞ்சறுப்பான். நஞ்சுவிழுதல், v. noun. The coming away of the after-birth. (c.) நஞ்சுவைக்க, inf. To insert poison, for killing, &c., as நஞ்சிட. நஞ்சூட்ட, inf. To imbue with poison as a weapon. நஞ்செடுக்க, inf. To counteract poison, neutralize its effects. 31)

nir (p. 277) A Sanscrit prefix implying negation, privation, இன்மை, as நிர்நாமன், the nameless; also fulness, நிறைவு, as நிர்நாசம், entire destruction. The final ர், often takes the particle உ, as நிரு; sometimes changes to ஷ், as நிஷ்களங்கம், being spotless; to ச், as நிச்சிந்தை, a quiet mind, and to ன், as நின் மலம். See துர். நிரங்குசம், s. A blockhead, one that does not know letters, மூடன்; [ex குக்ஷி. belly.] நிரதிகாரம், s. Being without authority. நிரதிகாரன், s. One not competent, not duly authorized to execute authority. 2. [in the agamas.] One unworthy, ineligible, unauthorized to perform sacred rites, அநதிகாரி. நிரந்தரம், s. Continuity, uninterruptedness, இடமின்மை. 2. (சது.) Closeness, nearness, நெருக்கம். 3. Perpetuity, எப் பொழுதும். 4. A monkey, குரங்கு. நிரந்தரன், s. The Supreme Being the incomprehensible, கடவுள். நிரபராதம், s. Faultlessness, blamelessness, குற்றமின்மை. நிரபராதி, s. An innocent person. நிரபேட்சம்--நிரபேட்சை--நிரபே��வுள். நிருநாமன், s. The Deity--as நிருணா மன். நிருபாதி, s. Freedom or liberation from passions, or from pain, suffering, &c., உபாதியின்மை; [ex உபாதி, pain.] நிருபாதிகம், s. That which is freed, as the mind of the ascetic from secularities, &c., நிர்விகற்பம். நிருபாதானம், s. Being without an immediate, proximate cause, துணைக்காரண மின்மை; [ex உபாதானம்.] நிருமதம், s. An elephant grown quiet by age, free venereal fury, மதமில்லா யானை. நிருமலம்--நிர்மலம்--நின்மலம். s. Immaculateness, freedom from impurity, மாசின்மை. நிருமலன், s. The Supreme Being, கட வுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். 3. Argha, அருகன். 4. Vishnu, விஷ்ணு. நிருமூடம்--நிர்மூடம், s. Stupidity, blockishness, அறிவின்மைமிகுதி; also நின் மூடம்; [ex நிர், fulness.] நிருமூடன், s. A stupid man, a fool a ninny. நிருமூலம்--நிர்மூலம், s. That which is baseless, or without root, மூலமின்மை. 2. Extirpation, utter destruction, total extinction, பாழாதல்; also நின்மூலம். நிருமூலப்பட--நிருமூலமாக, inf. To be utterly destroyed. நிருமூலமாக்க--நிரூமூலம்பண்ண, inf. To destroy totally. நிருவாசம், s. That which is uninhabited, without occupant, குடியின்மை. நிருவிகற்பம்--நிர்விகற்பம், s. Freedom from passions, emotions, &c., entire tranquillity of the soul by abstract devotion, விகற்பமின்மை. நிருவிகற்பக்காட்சி, s. [in the Agama log.] Indefinite or indistinct knowledge, perception, &c. See காட்சி. நிருவிகற்பசமாதி--நிருவிகற்பச்சமாதி, s. The state of the ascetic, void of all affection, passion, &c., ஒர்யோகநிலை. நிருவிகாரம்--நிர்விகாரம், s. Unchangeableness, as in the Deity, who, in performing his operations is unaffected by them and in the actions of creatures has no participation or contamination, விகாரமின்மை. 2. Freedom from passions, &c., as நிர்க்குணம். நிருவிகாரி--நிர்விகாரி, s. One free from change as the Deity, or as the soul approximating to the Deity, கடவுள். நிருவிக்கினம்--நிர்விக்கினம், s. Freedom from obstruction, impediment, இடையூறி ன்மை. நிருவிசாரம்--நிர்விசாரம், s. Carelessness, recklessness, வேண்டாமை. 2. Tranquillity, freedom from, கவலையின்மை. நிருவிடம்--நிருவிஷம்--நிர்விஷம். s. A plant, Curcuma Zedoaria from which a poisonous drug is extracted, used as an antidote to snake bites, ஓர்பூண்டு. 2. (fig.) [ex நிர், fulness.] A very wicked person, துன்மார்க்கன். நிர்க்குணம், s. [vul. நிர்க்குணம்] Being without attributes, குணமின்மை. நிர்க்குணன், s. The Deity. See குணம். நிர்த்தாட்சிணியம், s. An unfavorable look, unkindness, unmindfulness, கண் ணோட்டமின்மை. நிர்த்தூளி, s. Utter demolition, entire destruction, சருவநாசம். நிர்தூளிபண்ண--நிர்த்தூளியாக்க, inf. To destroy utterly. நிர்த்தூளியாக, inf. To be reduced to dust, destroyed. நிர்நாசம், s. Imperishableness. See நிருநாசம். நிர்நிமித்தம்--நிர்நிமித்தியம், s. Without and cause, முகாந்தரமின்மை. நிர்ப்பத்தியம்--நிஷ்பத்தியம், s. Being without restraint in diet, &c., as a patient, பத்தியமின்மை. நிர்ப்பந்தம், s. [vul. நிற்பந்தம்] Misery, calamity, wretchedness, affliction.-Note. This word varies in Tamil from the Sanscrit. நிர்ப்பந்தமாயிருக்கிறவன். A woman in travail. (R.) நிர்ப்பாக்கியம், s. [vul. நிற்பாக்கியம்.] Unluckiness, misfortune. நிர்ப்பாக்கியன், s. An unhappy man. நிர்ப்பீசதீட்சை, s. Instruction of a disciple complete in itself. See தீட்சை. நிர்மலம்--நின்மலம், s. See நிருமலம். 140)

Spreading, extending, விரிகை.-- Of பாய் are புற்பாய், a grass mat; தோற்பாய், the skins of some animals used for sleeping on; கூறைப்பாய், a canvass sail of a vessel. பசிக்குக்கறிவேண்டாம், தூக்கத்துக்குப்பாய்வேண்டா ம். A hungry man will not be particular about curry, if he can get cooked rice; and a sleepy man will not be particular about his mat. பாயிலேகிடக்க, inf. To lie on a mat. 2. To be bed-ridden. பாயிழுக்க--பாயெடுக்க--பாய்தூக்க-பாய்வலிக்க, inf. To hoist sail. 2. To unfurl the sails. பாயிறக்க--பாய்தணிக்க, inf. To take in, or strike sail. பாய்க்கோரை, s. A kind of reed-grass, suitable for mats. பாய்சுருட்ட, inf. To roll up a mat. பாய்ச்சுருட்டு, v. noun. A mat rolled up, a roll of mats. பாய்மரம், s. The mast of a vessel. பாய்மரக்கூம்பு, s. Knob or conical top of a mast. பாய்மரவங்கு, s. An orifice in the rib of a dhoney through which the mast passes. பாய்மரவிருட்சம், s. Fir tree. பாய்மாற, inf. To confute, to refute the opinion or argument of another, ஆட்சேபித்துத்தள்ள. 4. To double, to repeat a request, a word, &c., as இரட் டிக்க. 5. [prov.] To plough a second time, மாறியுழ. 6. (நிக.)
