ōmpu (p. 84) கிறேன், ஓம்பினேன், வேன், ஓ ம்ப, v. a. To protect, guard, defend, save, காக்க. 2. To preserve, keep, take care of, பாதுகாக்க. 3. To keep off, ward off, dispel, cease from, ஒழிய. 4. To cherish, nourish, maintain, support, to cause to increase, வளர்க்க. பரிந்தோம்பிக்காக்கவொழுக்கந்தெரிந்தோம்பித்தேரி னுமஃதேதுணை. Desire and maintain with great care the conduct proper to your caste, which, how much soever the virtues are examined and understood, and how much soever the senses are guarded, is alone the convoy of the soul. (குறள்.) அஞ்சலோம்பென்றார். He said, away with your fears. (குறள்.) வலியார்மேன்மாறேற்றலோம்புக. Let opposition to those more powerful than yourself cease. (குறள்.) விலக்கியவோம்பி. Avoiding whatever is prohibited by the shasters-- (நீதிநெறி.) தாங்கற்றனவோம்பாது. Not retaining in memory what they have learnt--(நீதிநெறி.) விருந்தோம்ப, inf. To entertain (guests), religious mendicants, &c.--as one of the duties of the householder. See இல்வாழ்வான். தீயோம்பி, verb. part. Cherishing the sacred fire. (நீதிநெறி.) வேள்வியோம்ப, inf.
