A grammatical treatise on Sanscrit words used in Tamil, ஓர் இலக்கணநூல். பிரயோகி, appel. n. A competent, capable man, சமர்த்தன். பிரயோகி, க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To emit, to discharge arrows; to shoot, செலுத்த. 2. To use, apply, employ, as words, வழங்க. 3. To have recourse to a remedy, or contrivance, முயல. பிரயோசகம், s. Advantage, utility, profit, as பிரயோசனம்; [from Sa. Prayojaka. W. p. 577.] பிரயோசகன்--பிரயோசனன்--பிரயோசி கன், s. One who receives advantage or profit. பிரயோசனம், s. [vul. புரோசனம்.] Profit, advantage, usefulness, ஆதாயம். 2. Reward good or bad, fruit or result of actions, செய்கையின்விளைவு. (c.) பிரயோசனப்பட, inf. [causat. பிரயோ சனப்படுத்த.] To be of use, turn to account or advantage. பிரயோசனப்பட்டவன், appel. n. A useful man. பிரயோசனம்பண்ண, inf. To do one a benefit to put one in the way of getting a livelihood. பிரலம்பம்,s. Hanging down; motion, waving, அசைவு. W. p. 577. PRALAMBA. பிரலாபம், s. Unmeaning speech,பய னில்சொல் W. p. 578. PRALAPA. 2. Lamentation, grief, புலம்புகை. பிரலாபசன்னி, s. A raving fit, அலறு சன்னி. பிரலாபி, க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To talk excessively and incoherently through grief; to lament, as a mourner, புலம்ப. (c.) பிரலோடனம், s. Rolling on the ground, revolving, உருளுகை. W. p. 576. PRALOD'HANA. பிரவசனம், s. Preaching or sermonizing, பிரசங்கம்பண்ணுகை. W. p. 578. PRAVACHANA. பிரவருத்தகன்--பிரவர்த்தகன், s. An author, original instigator, முயற்சிசெய் வோன். W. p. 578. PRAVARTTAKA. 2. A merchant, trader, வியாபாரி. பிரவருத்தனம்-பிரவர்த்தனம், s. Effort, exertion, taking measures, using means, exercise, endeavor, பிரயத்தினம். W. p. 578. PRAVARTTANA. பிரவர்த்தி, s. Engagement, activity, exertion, முயற்சி. பிரவர்த்தி, க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To exert, to use means for the completion of an object, முயற்சிசெய்ய. பிரவாகம், s. Inundation, flood, வெள் ளம். 2. Stream, rapid flow, torrent, நீரோட்டம். 3. Action, work, செய்கை. W. p. 579. PRAVAHA. பிரவாகி, க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To overflow, to destroy, as a flood, பெரு க்கெடுக்க. பிரவாளம், s. Red coral. See பவளம். பிரவிடை--பிரௌடை, s. A woman of middle age. See பருவம். பிரவிருத்தர், s. [pl.] The third class of the nine forms of deity, embracing four of the five operating gods, முயலுங்கடவுளர். See கிருத்தியம். பிரவிருத்தி, s. Increase, வளர்ச்சி. 2. Affairs, circumstances, occurrence of life, வர்த்தமானம். W. p. 579. PRAVRUTTI. பிரவிருத்தி, க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To cause to increase, to augment; to evolve, அதிகப்படுத்த. 2. v. n. To increase, to be augmented, வளர. பிரவேசம், s. Entrance of a great person, with parade, உட்படுகை. 2. Intentness on an object, engagedness in a pursuit, மனம்பற்றுகை. 3. Entrance on, or progress in, a work, a study, &c., commencement, initiation, ஆரம்பம். 4. [fig.] Place of entry, வாயில். W. p. 58. PRAVASA. பிரவேசபரீட்சை, s. Entrance examination. (adopted.) பிரவேசப்படுத்த, inf. To cause to enter or go in, பிரவேசிப்பிக்க. பிரவேசமாக, inf. To enter, to go in, to get into, &c. உட்புக. பிரவேசம்பண்ண, inf. To enter, to make an entrance. பிரவேசி, க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To enter, உட்செல்ல. 2. To enter, upon, commence, தொடங்க. (c.) பிரவேசிப்பிக்க, inf. To cause to enter. பிரவேட்சணம்-பிரவேக்ஷணம், s. Seeing beforehand, முன்னுறக்காண்கை. W. p. 579. PRAVEKSHAN'A. 9) *

purāṇam (p. 325) s. Antiquity, பழமை. 2. Ancient story; a purana, a legendary tale containing accounts of gods, heroes, Rishis, &c., பழங்கதை. (c.) புராணம், 18. The eighteen principal puranas are; 1. சைவம், Saiva. 2. காந்தம், Skanda; 3. இலிங்கம், Linga; 4. கூர்மம், Kurma; 5. வாமனம், Vamana; 6. வராகம், Varaka; 7. பௌடிகம் or பவிஷியம், Bhavishyat or prophetic; 8. மச்சியம், Matsya; 9. மார்க்கண்டேயம், Markandeya; 1. பிர மாண்டம், Bra'hmanda or egg of Brahma. According to சதுரகராதி, these are Saiva puranas. 11. நாரதீயம், Naradiya; 12. பாகவதம்; Bagavat, describing the ten incarnations of Vishnu; 13. காரூடம், Garuda; 14. வைணவம், Vaishnava. These four are Vaishnava puranas. 15. பிரமம், Brahma; 16. பதுமம், Patma or the lotus. These two are Brahma puranas. 17. பிரமகைவர்த்தம்; Brahmakaivarta, or transformations of Brahma or Krishna; purana of the sun. 18. ஆக்கினேயம், Agneya, of the god of fire.--Note. The above were all written in Sanscrit and but few of them are yet translated into Tamil. There are also eighteen secondaries, called உபபுராணம், and many of an inferior order, called ஸ்தலபுராணம், written in praise of sacred places. புராணங்கேட்க, inf. To hear the puranas read. mayāṉam (p. 344) s. [com. மசானம்.] Burning or burial ground, கடலை. See மசானம். மயானக்கிரியை, s. The ceremonies performed in the burning or burial place. மயானவைரவன், s. Bhairava, as residing in places for burning the dead. See பைரவம். மயானவைராக்கியம், s. Vows at a cremation, as சுடலைஞானம். 2. Pledge of fidelity till death--given by a bride. 9) *

vayirākkiyam (p. 376) --வைராக்கியம், s. Absence of secular passions or desires, இச்சையின்மை. W. p. 811. VAIRAGYA. 2. [usage.] Zeal, earnestness, persistence, perseverance, fanaticism, மனோதிட்டம். 3. Obstinacy, pertinacity, வீஷ்மம். (c.) ஞானவயிராக்கியம், s. Religious Zeal; self-denial.
