ēcu (p. 78) கிறேன், ஏசினேன், வேன், ஏச, v. a. To abuse, to reproach, to rail at, to vilify, to insult grossly, இகழ. ஏசாதவர், appel. n. The unimpeachable, the good, நல்லோர். 2. The gods, தேவர். (சது.) சமயம்
camayam (p. 162) s. A convenient, suitable or proper time; leisure, convenience, opportunity, தருணம். 2. Time, season, occasion, juncture of time; emergency, extremity, காலம். 3. Any religious persuasion, faith or system, மார்க்கம். (c.) W. p. 894. SAMAYA. --Note.. There are twelve principal religious systems, of which six are approved and six rejected by the Saiva sect. 1. உட் சமையம், or the six systems considered orthodox by the Saivas are. 1. வைரவம், making Bhairava supreme. 2. வாமம், regarding the female principle in nature, as the primeval form of deity, and teaching the worship of the generative female organ. 3. காளாமுகம், similar to the வாமம். 4. மாவிரதம், teaching that the deity is a pure spirit. 5. பாசுபதம், similar to மாவிரதம். 6. சைவம், Saivism, which teaches that the deity is both spirit and matter; assuming forms for accomplishing his purposes. II. புறச்சமயம், or the six heterodox systems; viz.:-- 1. உலகாயதம். A species of Atheism regarding sensual gratifications as the chief good, as taught by the atheistical school of Charvaka. 2. புத் தம். Bhuddism, which rejects the notion of a Supreme being, maintains that all material existences proceed from a fortuitous combination of the four primitive elements, (earth, water, fire, and air,) and that mental phenomena are the mere results of organization. It regards Bhudd as a deified teacher and object of worship. 3. சமணம். The Jaina system which is a modification of Bhuddism, and regards Argha as the deified preceptor and object of worship. 4. மீமாஞ்சை. A system that regards Brahm as the soul of the universe. 5. பாஞ்சாரத்திரம். A system taught by Vishnu, during five successive nights. 6. பாட்டாசாரியம். The system of Battacharya whose followers regard the Vedas as god, and consider that virtuous actions of themselves result in felicity. III. Other systems derived from these twelve or in some respects similar to them are very numerous, some of them are கபாலம், சவுத்திராந்திகம், யோகசாரணம், ஆத்துமிகம், வைபாடிகம், நிகண்டவா தம், நையாயிகம், வைசேஷிகம், பதஞ்சலியம், சாங்கியம், சித்தாந்தம், வேதாந்தம், &c. The six orthodox systems among the Vaishnuvas are 1. யாதவம், that of Yádava Misra. 2. மாயாவாதம், that by Sankarachárya. 3. இரணியகர்ப்பம், that by Hiranyagarbha. 4. இராமானுசீயம், that by Rámánuja. 5. பாஸ்கரம், that by Bhaskara. 6. தத்துவவாதம், that by Mádhavácharya. சமயகருமம், s. Rites and duties of religion, மார்க்காசாரம். சமயகாரியம், s. Questions, matters, &c., of theology; religious concerns, subjects, &c. சமயக்கட்டு, s. Religious obligation. See கட்டு. சமயக்கொள்கை--சமயக்கோட்பாடு, s. Religious opinions, tenets, &c. சமயசாத்திரம், s. The theology of a sect. 2. Religious writings or shastras. சமயதீட்சை, s. The ceremony of initiating a disciple in the mantras, &c., peculiar to the sect. See தீட்சை. சமயத்தார், s. The followers of a religious system. சமயங்கடக்க, inf. To transcend all religions--as the supreme being. (p.) சமயநிந்தை, s. Scoffing at religion, profaneness, blasphemy, &c. சமயநிலை, s. The commands, tenets of a religion. 2. Religion as observed, believed, practised, &c., by its professors. சமயநூல், s. The religious writings of a sect. சமயப்பற்று, v. noun. Attachment to a religion. சமயபத்தி, s. Bigotry, enthusiasm, conceit in religion. சமயமதங்கொண்டாட, inf. To be enthusiastic, to act the bigot. சமயமானம், s. A natural regard to one's own religion. (c.) 2. (Rott.) Constancy or firmness in a religion. சந்நியாசிக்குஞ் சாதிமானஞ் சமயமானம்விடாது.... The ascetic who has relinquished every thing will not relinquish his caste or sect. சமயவாதம், s. Religious controversy. சமயவாதி, s. A disputant for religion. 2. A professor of religion. சமயாசாரம், s. The rites and ceremonies, of a religion according to a prescribed institute. 2. Religious practice, observance of rites. (c.) சமயாதீதன், s. The supreme Being-as transcending all religions, சமயங்கடந்த கடவுள். (p.) சமயி, s. [com. சமயத்தான்.] A religionist, a sectarian, the follower of any religion, sect, &c., a sectary. (p.) சமயமாயிருக்கையில், [adverbially.] At a particular juncture, in an emergency. சமயங்கடத்த, inf. [prov.] To while away time, to loiter. சமயங்கிடைக்க, inf. To obtain an opportunity. (c.) சமயங்கெட்டவேளை, s. An unseasonable time. (Limited usage.) சமயத்துக்குதவ, inf. To help in an emergency. சமயம்பார்க்க--சமயந்தேட, inf. To watch an opportunity. சமயாசமயம், s. Urgent or pressing occasion, unfavorable opportunity. (c.) தற்சமயம், s. The very juncture or moment. 2. A special opportunity. நற்சமயம், s. A good opportunity. சமயந்தப்பிவந்தான். He came unseasonably. சமயத்திலே கையைவிரித்தான். He refrained from helping in time of need. 2) *

cāttiram (p. 176) --சாஸ்திரம், s. Scripture, written works on science, philosophy, &c., கலைநூல். 2. Astrology, astronomy, சோதிடம். 3. Any of the mystical science for ascertaining and predicting future events, அதி நூல். 4. Divination, sooth-saying, prognostication by any of the mysterious arts, ஆரூடம். 5. Religious or other institutes as laid down in writings and considered, of divine origin or authority, including the Vedas, Agamas, Puranas, incantations, works on medicine, mathematics, law, mechanics, erotics, &c., வேதாகமமுதலி யன. 6. Any of the systems of philosophical theology--as the Sidhanta, the Vedanta, the Potanta, &c., வேதாங்கம். 7. Religious, ceremonial, or other rules, laws, precepts, &c., as laid down in the sacred writings, விதிப்பிரமாணம். W. p. 841. S'ASTRA.--Note. The three சாத்திரம் or systems of philosophical religion; are. 1. சாங்கியம், the Sankhya system, the founder of which was Kapila, maintaining that perfect bliss consists in the entire subjection of the three gunas, which proceeded from the threefold origin of the eternal, unoriginated Maya; 2. பாதஞ்சலியம், the Yoga philosophy, as taught by Pathanjali, distinguished from the ceremonial; 3. வே தாந்தம், the theological portion of the Vedas as contained in the Upanishads. The founder of this last school was Vyasa, and its most celebrated supporter was Sankaracharya. It makes the divine being the the soul of the Universe, and is a system of Pantheism. See வேதாந்தம். The six சாஸ்திரம் or philosophical systems are; 1. வேதாந்தம், theology, as the highest knowledge. (See above); 2. வைசே ஷிகம், the Vaiseshika doctrine, morality, or ethics, a branch of the Nyaya or logical school instituted by Kanada; 3. பாட் டம், the system of Bhatta'charya, in an epic poem containing narrations; 4. பிர பாகரம், ceremonial law; 5. பூருவமீமாஞ்சை, antiquity or works and actions of old times, elucidating the Karma-kanda of the Vedas, originating with the Muni Jaimini; 6. உத்தரமீமாஞ்சை, logic, the same as the Vedanta, founded on the Gnana-kanda, or theological portion of the Vedas, and treating of God as the soul of the Universe. It is ascribed to Vyasa. சாத்திரத்துக்குக் கொஞ்சங் கூட்டிக்கொள். Take a morsel for form's sake, (lit.) in order to conform to the shastra. சாத்திரக்காரன், s. An astrologer, a diviner, a soothsayer. 2. The author of a shastra, ஆக்கியோன். சாத்திரங்கேட்க, inf. To consult an astrologer or other diviner. சாஸ்திரக்கியன், s. A man of science, a learned man, a pundit, பண்டிதன். (R.) சாத்திரசாலை, s. A college. (R.) சாத்திரசித்தம், s. Sentiment, meaning, doctrine, &c., maintained in a shastra, நூலினாலுறுதிப்பட்டது. (p.) சாத்திரஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To foretell, prognosticate by astrology, augury, &c., to divine. 2. To assert authoritatively as the shastras, தீர்ப்பாயுரைக்க. சாத்திரதீட்சை--சாத்திரதீக்கை, s. Written instruction, the scriptures as one of the modes of enlightening the mind of a disciple. See தீட்சை. சாத்திரமுறை--சாத்திரவிதி, s. The precepts, injunctions, &c., of the shastras. சாத்திரம்பார்க்க, inf. To consult astrology, &c., at the birth of a child, for the site of a house, an undertaking, &c. சாத்திரம்பண்ண--சாத்திரஞ்செய்ய, inf. To make religious ceremonies prescribed in the shastras. சாத்திரி--சாத்திரவாதி, s. [com. சாஸ்திரி.] An astrologer, a soothsayer, a diviner, a prognosticator. 2. A doctor of Sanscrit literature. 35) *

Strict morality, sanctity, மாசின்மை. 5. Being unmixed, untainted, unadulterated, கலப்பின்மை. 6. Innocence, innocence established by trial or ordeal, கறையின்மை. (c.) 7. The third and highest state of separate souls next to absorption, சுத் தாவத்தை. 8. A prefix to the names of the phases of the moon in her increase-as opposed to பகுளம். 9. (fig.) Health, salubrity, recovery from disease, welfare, சொஸ்தம். 1. [in astron.] Correction or equation. சுத்தஞ்சோறுபோடும். Pureness will make one prosperous. சுத்தக்கறுப்பு, s. Entire blackness. (c.) சுத்தக்காரன், s. A man who is neat and clean. 2. (fig.) A pure, innocent man, சுத்தன். சுத்தசதுர்த்தசி, s. The fourteenth phase of the moon in her increase--as opposed to பகுளம். சுத்தசத்தியம், s. The simple truth, genuineness, authenticity. சுத்தசலம், s. Clean or pure water. சுத்தசூனியம், s. Absolute nothingness, nonentity, முழுப்பாழ். (c.) 2. Atheism. நிரீச்சுரம். சுத்த சூனியமாக்கிப்போட்டான். He has utterly destroyed the family. சுத்தசைதன்னியம், s. Pure spirit, pure intellect--as distinct from matter. (p.) சுத்தசைவம், s. The highest, or the sixteenth degree of Saivism. See சைவம். சுத்தச்சிவப்பு, s. Pure red, scarlet. (c.) சுத்தஞானம், s. Pure, spiritual knowledge; pure ஞானம் unmixed with works. (p.) சுத்ததத்துவம், s. One of the five properties of Siva. See சிவதத்துவம். சுத்ததாளம், s. A superior kind of தா ளம். சுத்ததினம், s. A lucky day. See சுதினம். 2. New year's day, வருஷப்பிறப்பு. 3. The exact number of days elapsed in an epoch, or in any fixed portion of time --considered as an element for finding the longitude, &c., of the sun, moon, planets, &c. சுத்தத்தோடிருக்க, inf. To be pure in body and mind. சுத்தநாசம், s. (also சர்வநாசம்.) Entire destruction, utter ruin. (c.) சுத்தநிலை, s. As சுத்தம், 7. சுத்தபஞ்சமி, s. The fifth day of the new moon. See பஞ்சமி. சுத்தபட்டினி, s. Utter starvation. (c.) சுத்தபத்தி, s. Real piety, sincere devotion. சுத்தபரிமளம், s. Fragrance, sweet scent. சுத்தபரிசம், s. [in astron.] True time of the beginning of an eclipse. சுத்தபரிசுத்தாங்கம், s. Entire purity, holiness. (Colloq.) சுத்தபவித்திரம், s. Entire pureness, holiness. (p.) சுத்தபாடம், s. The correct or genuine reading. சுத்தபோசனம், s. Sacred food--commonly used in reference to offerings made in the temples. சுத்தபௌரணை, s. The oppositions of the sun and moon. சுத்தபுடம், s. [in astron.] The real situation (longitude) of a planet, &c., as differing from its mean place. சுத்தப்பட, inf. To be cleaned. சுத்தப்படச்செய்ய, inf. To make a thing neatly. 2. [in carpentry.] To plane the wood smoothly. சுத்தப்பிரதி, s. A fair copy. (c.) சுத்தபூமி, s. Cleared land. (p.) சுத்தப்படுத்த--சுத்தம்பண்ண, inf. To cleanse, to clear away, make clean. சுத்தப்பிழை, s. Complete error. (c.) சுத்தப்பொய், s. A downright lie. (c.) சுத்தமத்தளம், s. A superior kind of மத்தளம். சுத்தமனம், s. A frank, sincere mind, கபடமின்மை. 2. A pure mind. சுத்தமாயை, s. Pure spiritual Maya. See மாயை. சுத்தமாய், adv. Wholly, entirely, utterly, absolutely. 2. At all, in the least. (c.) இன்றைக்கெனக்குச்சுத்தமாச்சாப்பாட்டுக்கில்லை. I am, to day, entirely destitute of food. சுத்தமார்க்கம், s. Pure conduct, spotless morality. 2. Sincere piety. 3. The true system of religion. சுத்தம்பண்ண, inf. To purity, either physically or ceremonially; to cleanse, to refine. 2. [in astron.] To equate or correct. சுத்தம்பேச, inf. [prov.] To speak boastingly of one's character, parentage, connexions, &c. சுத்தவநியாயம், s. A gross injustice. (c.) சுத்தவாசனை, s. Pure fragrance. 2. (fig.) A pure state of the soul--oppo. to மலினவாசனை. சுத்தவாளர், s. [improp.] Pure persons. 2. (Rom. usage.) Saints, அர்ச்சியசிஷ்டர். சுத்தவாளி, s. A person proved innocent in a court of justice, not guilty-oppo. to குற்றவாளி. (c.) 2. A holy person. சுத்தவிக்கேபம்--சுத்தவிட்சேபம், s. [in astron.] The true celestial latitude. See புடலிக்கேபம். சுத்தவித்தை, s. [in Agam.] A preponderance of spiritual knowledge above a tendency to works. See சிவதத்துவம். சுத்தக்கட்டிவெள்ளி--சொக்கவெள்ளிக் கட்டி, s. A lump of pure silver. (c.) சுத்தவீரம், s. True valor, heroism. (c.) சுத்தவீரர், s. (sing. சுத்தவீரன்.) True heroes. சுத்தவுபவாசம், s. Absolute fasting, total abstinence during a fast. சுத்தவெள்ளை, s. Pure white. 2. That which is entirely white. (c.) சுத்தன், s. A pure person, a sincere person, பரிசுத்தன். (c.) 2. One ripe for liberation from births, a soul in the third, or highest stage, next to absorption, நின்மலன். 3. Siva, அரன். 4. Brahma, ஐயன். 5. Argha, அருகன். 6. Vishnu, அரி. கைச்சுத்தம், s. Cleanness of hands or freedom from bribery. (c.) மெய்ச்சுத்தம், s. Cleanliness of body. (c.) மனச்சுத்தம், s. Mental purity. (c.) வாய்ச்சுத்தம், s. Veracity, or cleanness of mouth. (c.) சுத்தாங்கம், s. Pureness, cleanness, purity, sanctity, சுத்தம். 2. Entireness, absoluteness, முழுமை; [ex அங்கம்.] (c.) சுத்தாங்கமாய்ப்போயிற்று. It is entirely gone. 2. It is quite clean. சுத்தாங்கன், s. A pure person, one without moral stain. (Colloq.) சுத்தாத்துமா, s. A person of superior, spiritual knowledge. 2. One of spotless, irreproachable character. 3. tirumāl (p. 240) s. Vishnu, as lord of illusion, in the universe, விட்டுணு; [ex மால், illusion.] திருமாலவதாரம், 1. Ten incarnations of Vishnu. 1. Matsya, மச்சம், a fish assumed to kill சோமுகன், an Asura who had stolen the Vedas and hidden them in the sea. 2. Kurma, கூர்மம். tortoise, assumed to support Mount Mandara, used as a churning stick in churning the sea of milk to obtain Amrita, or nectar. 3. Varáha, வராகம், a boar, assumed to open and spread out the earth which இரணியாக்கன் had rolled up, as a scroll, and sunk in the ocean; and to kill him. 4. Narasingha, நரசிங்கம், manlion, assumed to destroy இரணியகசிபன், the younger brother of இரணியாக்கன், who, to avenge the death of his brother, had abolished the worship of Vishnu.--Note. These four were assumed without parents. 5. Váhmana, வாமனம், the dwarf born of காசிபன் and அதிதி to overcome மாபலி by deceit, coming to him as a beggar. 6. Parasurama, பரசுராமன், or the axe bearing Rama, born of சமதக்கினி and இரேணுகை to kill the Kshtriyas who oppressed the brahmans. 7. Ramachandra, இராமன், king of Ayodhya, born of தசரதன் and கோசலை, to kill Ravana, king of Lanka, and other Rakshasas. 8. Balab'hadra, பலபத் திரன், half brother of krishna; his father's name was வசுதேவன், and he had two mothers, தேவகி and உரோகணி. He come to destroy பிரலம்பன் and his Rakshasas. 9. Krishna, கண்ணன், son of வசு தேவன் and தேவகி, came to excite the wars of the Bharata, and to relieve the earth of its over-burdened population. 1. The horse, கற்கி, yet future, and for the purpose of destroying the universe.--Note. The poet Jayadeva places Krishna as the eighth and makes the ninth, Buddha. Another class of fifteen incarnations of Vishnu is given. 1. சனகன், Sanaka. 2. சனந்தனன், Sanandana. 3. சனாதன், Sanáta. 4. சனற்குமாரன், Sanatkumara. Rishis regarded as representatives of Brahma and celebrated in the Bagavata. 5. நரநாராயணன், Naranarayana, a great personage mentioned in the Maha B'harata. 6. கபிலன், Capila, founder of the Sank'hya philosophy. 7. இடபன், Vrishab'ha-Yogi, the first of the twenty-four Jaina saints. 8. நாரதன், Nárada,, inventor of the lute, messenger of the gods, and first of the ten principal Munis. 9. அயக்கிரீவன் ((lit.) the horse-headed), Hayagriva, of the Maha Bharata, to be distinguished from the Asura of the same name. 1. தத்தாத்திரேயன், Dattatreya, mentioned in Bagavata. 11. மோகினி, Mohini, a fascinating female. (See மோ கினி.) 12. யாகபதி, Yágapati, the lord of sacrifices, always receiving the first of the offerings. 13. வியாதன், Vyasa, son of Parásara, arranger of the Vedas. 14. தன்வந்தரி, D'hanvantari, a physician of the gods. (See தன்வந்தரி.) 15. பௌத் தன், Budha, the head of the Buddhist system; by some considered the ninth principal Avatar. திருமாலாயுதம், 5, s. The five weapons of Vishnu. 1. சங்கம் or பாஞ்சசன்னியம், chank; 2. சக்கரம் or சுதரிசனம், a wheellike missile; 3. தனுசு or சாரங்கம், bow. 4. வாள் or நாந்தகம், sword; 5. தண்டு or கௌமோதகி, club.--Note. These are pictured on a metal plate, and worn on the neck as an ornament, or amulet, by children, which is called பஞ்சாயுதம். திருமாலுந்தி, s. The lotus, said to resemble the navel of Vishnu, தாமரை. திருமால்புதல்வன், s. Kama as son of Vishnu, மன்மதன். திருமாளிகை, s. the house of a spiritual preceptor, in the language of his disciples. திருமாளிகைப்பத்தி, s. A gallery in such a house or on a fane. திருமானகரம், s. The heaven of Vishnu, வைகுந்தம்; [ex திருமால்.] திருமுகம், s. A divine face, divine presence, கடவுள்சந்நிதானம். 2. Presence of a great person, பெரியோர்சமூகம். 3. An epistle or edict from a superior to an inferior, சீமுகம். 4. An epistle, நிருபம். திருமுருகாற்றுப்படை, s. A poem. See ஆற்றுப்படை. திருமுழுக்கு, v. noun. The bathing of பார்வதி, under whatever name for purification, திருஅபிஷேகம். 2. Bathing by women with fasting in honor of பார்வதி, ten days in December. திருமுறை, s. A class of sacred writings, odes, &c., திருவாசகம். திருமுற்றம், s. An open space for performing equestrain exercises, கோயிற் சந்நிதி. 2. Temples or sacred places of Vishnu, கோயில். 3. A horse race, course, hippodrome, குதிரைவையாளிவீதி. திருமுன்--திருமுன்பு, s. Divine presence, தேவசன்னிதானம். 2. Presence of a king or other great persons, பெரியோர் சன்னிதானம். திருமெழுக்கு, v. noun. Smearing the floor of a temple and adjacent parts with cow-dung, கோயில்மெழுகுகை. திருமேனி, s. A divine body, form, shape, &c., the person of a deity or saint, திவ்வியதேகம். 2. In some connections, the idol of a temple as a form of the God, விக்கிரகம்.--Note. All forms of deity or nature belong to the female energy. 3. Any ear-jewel worn by females, ஓராபரணம். 4. A plant, குப்பை மேனி, Acalypha, L. திருமேனிகன்றப்பிரம்படிகொண்டசிவனார்...... Siva who was beaten with a ratan so that his divine body was bruised. திருவடி, s. Divine feet, feet of a deity, கடவுளடி. 2. Saints or great one's feet, குருபாதம். திருவடிதீட்சை, s. The guru's placing his feet on the head of the disciple, as one of the modes of dispelling his sin. திருவடிப்பாதுகை, s. The word, declaration or order of a deity, saint, guru, king or other great person; an oracle. திருவாக்குக்கெதிர்வாக்குண்டோ.... Is the word of a high personage to be controverted? திருவாசகம், s. A poem by மாணிக்க வாசகர். திருவாசல்--திருவாயில், s. The gates or door-ways of a temple, including all the openings between the worshipper and the idol, ஆலயவாயில். 2. The mountain town of Parlany, பழனி, one of the six places sacred to Skanda, முருகர்ஸ்தலம். திருவாழ்ங்கோடு--திருவான்கோடு, s. Travancore, a town and country at the S. W. extremity of southern India, ஓரூர். திருவாளன், s. A rich, prosperous man, செல்வன்; [ex ஆளன். திருவானைக்கா, s. A sacred place, near Trichinopoly, ஓர்ஸ்தலம். திருவிருந்து, s. A divine feast; used for the Lord's Supper, திவ்வியவிருந்து. திருவிலி, s. An unfortunate or poor person, தரித்திரி. 2. A widow or one who has lost her beauty, கைம்பெண்; [ex இலி.] திருவிழா, s. A temple festival, உற் சவம். 2. A temple procession. திருவிழாக்கொண்டாட, inf. To celebrate a festival. திருவிளக்கு, s. The lighted lamp of a temple, or as placed before a holy person, கோயிற்றீபம். 2. A lighted lamp as representing a god. திருவிளையாடல், v. noun. Sports of the deity, commonly of a wonderful, or miraculous character, தெய்வவிளையாட்டு. 2. A book treating on the sixty-four wonderful sports of Siva at Madura. அறுபத்துநாலுதிருவிளையாடல். The sixty-four sacred sports of Siva at Madura. திருவிளையாட்டு, v. noun. The wonderful sports of a deity, தெய்வலீலை. 2. [in burlesque.] Tricks, roguishness, frolics, பாடி. திருவுந்தியார், s. A section of திருவா சகம், composed by மாணிக்கவாசகர், Manikavasakar, திருவாசகத்தோருறுப்பு. திருவுளம்--திருவுள்ளம், s. The will of a god, a king, a guru, &c., [ex உளம், உள்ளம், mind.] 2. (fig.) The Supreme Being, கடவுள். திருவுளங்கொள்ள, inf. To approve, in case of a deity, or holy person; to deign, to be pleased. சுவாமிஅப்படியேதிருவுளங்கொண்டிருக்கிருக்கிறார்.... God is pleased to have it so. திருவுளச்சீட்டு, s. A lot cast or drawn. திருவுளச்செயல், s. Providential occurrence, providence. திருவுளமத்தியஸ்தம், s. Appeal to the deity. திருவுளமறிய, inf. To be witness--as the Supreme Being; used only in some form of the verb. திருவுளமறியச்சொல்லுகிறேன். I say it, God being witness. திருவுளம்பற்ற, inf. To speak, said of a deity or great person; to condescend to speak. திருவுளம்வைத்தல், v. noun. A deity, a guru, &c., exercising grace, deigning, vouchsafing. திருவுறுப்பு, s. A female ornament of solid gold bearing the figure of Lukshmi, worn on the forehead, நுதன்மே லணி. See உத்தி. திருவூசல்--திருவூஞ்சல், s. A swing for the idol, used on the last day of the annual festival, and on some other special occasions; a kind of cot, தேவவூச லாட்டு. திருவூஞ்சலாட, inf. To swing the idol. திருவேங்கடம், s. A place sacred to Vishnu, திருப்பதி. See திசை. திருவேடம், s. Sacred dress of siva, or of his followers, such as red cloths, sacred beads, &c. 2. Ear-rings made of gold or copper worn by the பண்டாரம், the தம்பிரான், &c., சிவனடியார்காதணி. திருவேடம்பூண, inf. To wear the distinguishing marks of the Saiva sect. திருவேரகம், s. Trivaraka near Pondichery, one of the six places sacred to Skanda, குமரன்ஸ்தலம். திருவொற்றாடை, s. Cloth for wiping the body of the idol after bathing, or anointing it, விக்கிரகங்களையொற்றுஞ்சீலை. திருவொற்றியூர், s. A place sacred to Siva, ஓர்சிவஸ்தலம். திருவோணம், s. The twenty-second lunar asterism, containing three stars in the neck of the eagle, ஓணம். திருவோலக்கம், s. The assembly in the temple before an idol. See ஓலக்கம். 5)
தீண்டு
tīṇṭu (p. 243) கிறேன், தீண்டினேன், வேன், தீண் ட, v. a. To touch, feel, come in contact with, தொட. 2. To infect or infuse poison, by contact; to defile, contaminate by touching, தொற்ற. 3. To envenom, as a snake, by biting, விஷந்தீண்ட. 4. To deflour, ravish, கற்பழிக்க. 5. To grasp, take hold of, to appropriate, பற்ற. (c.) சர்ப்பந்தீண்டிஇறந்தான். He was bitten by a serpent and died. இருசுடரை இராகுகேதுதீண்டின. Ráhu and Kéthu seized the two lights of the sun and moon. ஆத்துமா அந்தக்கரணத்தைத் தீண்டிக்கொண்டறி யும். The soul understands by the comprehension of the mental faculties. கிராணந்தீண்டுதல், v. noun. The occurring (touching) of an eclipse. (c.) தீண்டாச்சாதி, s. Low caste that are not to be touched. தீண்டாநெருப்பு, s. An untouchable fire; i. e. matron of unapproachable chastity, பதிவிரதை. பிறர்தாரத்தைத்தீண்ட, inf. To defile another's wife. தீண்டுகை, v. noun. Touching, feeling. 3)

tuḷuvam (p. 251) The name of a country on the western coast between Canara and the Concan, ஓர்தேசம். 2. The language of the country, one of the eighteen, பதினெண்பாஷையினொன்று. துளுவபாஷை, s. The Tuluva language. துளுவப்பிரமணா, s. (plu.) Brahmans of the Tuluva country, of whom, the head of the துளிதம் sect, Mad'hvacharia, was one. துளுவவேளாளன், s. [for. பணி.] Service, work business employment; service to the Deity, or a superior, தொண்டு. 1. [limited.] A time, a season, as a day, year, &c., பண், 4. Four kinds of melody in reference to soil; பாலை, barren ground; 2. குறிஞ்சி, hilly ground; 3. மருதம், cultivated land; 4. செவ்வழி, land near the sea. (சது.) பண், 21. Twenty one kinds of melody, in three classes: இராப்பண், 9, a class of nine night-melodies; பகற்பண், 9, a class of nine day-melodies; பொதுப் பண், 3, a class of three melodies for night or day. பண்கயிறு, s. Larboard stay-rope of a dhoney. பண்கொடி, s. A cane, or ratan used for wattling, or wicker work; an osier, a long switch. பண்டர், s. Bards, singers of a low caste accompanying a great man, and chanting his praises, பாடற்கீழ்மக்கள். (சது.) பண்ணானவன், appel. n. A man of good manners or habits. (limited.) பண்ணாய்ப்பாடுதல்--பண்ணிலேபாடு தல், பண்ணோடேபடித்தல்--பண்ணோடேபாடுதல், v. noun. Singing in a proper tune. பண்ணுக்குவருதல். As பண்படுதல். (R.) பண்ணுறுத்த, inf. To harness. 2. To garnish. (p.) பண்தப்புதல். The tune going wrong. பண்படுதல், v. noun. Becoming or being made fit or serviceable, சீர்திருந் துதல். 2. Being proper for tillage, as land, செப்பமாதல். 3. Being obedient, submissive, teachable, அமைதல். 4. Helping, serving, உதவுதல். பண்படுத்தல்--பண்படுத்துதல், v. noun. Fitting, adapting, tempering, seasoning, preparing, or tilling land. பண்படாதசிறை, s. An untractable slave. பண்படாநிலம், s. Soil not prepared for tillage. 2. Uncultivated land. பண்பட்டவன், appel. n. [neg. பண்படா தவன்.] An educated, experienced man. பண்பட்டுத்திரிதல், v. noun. Attending courteously on one; or continuing in a course of service. பண்பாடுதல், Learning the gamut and other varicties. பண்பிடித்தல், Pitching the right musical note. காலப்பண், s. Time as a god. சத்தப்பிரமம், s. Sound deified. See கலைஞானம். பிரமகத்தி--பிரமக்கொலை--பிரமத்தி-பிர மாத்தி, s. Murder of a brahman, பிராமணக் கொலை. 2. The guilt of brahmanicide as attaching to the soul and haunting the murderer. See under அத்தி. பிரமகத்திதோஷம்-பிரமகத்தியாதோஷம், s. Guilt of brahmanicide. பிரமகத்திதொலையல், v. noun. Terminating of the guilt of brahmanicide. பிரமகபாலம், s. The skull of the upper of fifth head of Brahma, plucked off by Siva, in the form of Bhairava, for pride; and worn by Siva as a part of his garland, or carried in his hand when begging, பிரமன்றலைஓடு. பிரமகற்பம், s. The age of Brahma. See கற்பம். பிரமகன்னிகை, s. A female of the Brahman caste, பிராமணப்பெண். 2. Sarasvati, சரஸ்வதி. பிரமகாதகன், s. Murderer of a brahman, பிராமணக்கொலைபாதகன். பிரமகாயத்திரி, s. The sacred incantation repeated by the brahmans, in their daily worship. See under காயத்திரி. பிரமகிரந்தி, s. Tying together, two stems of sacrificial grass in representation of the sexual union of Siva and Sakti, in the pujah or worship of the கிரி யைக்காரன், ஓர்முடிச்சு; [ex கிரந்தி, knot.] பிரமகுலம், s. The Brahman caste. பிரமகைவர்த்தம், s. One of the eighteen Puranas, in which the sun is regarded as the Supreme Being. See புராணம். (சது.) --The description in the Sans. Dict. is different. பிரமக்கியானம், s. As பிரமஞானம். பிரமக்கியானி, s. See பிரமஞானி. பிரமசடங்கம், s. Touching six members of the body, while repeating the five lettered incantation appropriated to the five faces of Siva, as representing the five operative dcities, ஆறங்கத்தோடு செய்யுஞ்செபம். பிரமசரியம்--பிரமசாரித்துவம், s. The order, condition or religious practice of the Brahmachari or religious unmarried student, நான்கு நிலையினொன்று. பிரமசரியமனுட்டிக்க, inf. To commence the practice of a religious student, commonly about the sixteenth year. பிரமசாபாலம், s. One of the thirty-two Upanishads, உபநிடதமுப்பத்திரண்டினொன்று. பிரமசாரி, s. The religious bachelorstudent, the first of the four orders prescribed for the brahmanical tribe. See ஆச்சிரமம். 2. Bishma, a son of king சந்தனு. பிரமசாரிசந்நியாசி, s. One who passes from the student to the ascetic or fourth order, without passing through the intermediate stages, பிரமசரியத்தினின்றுஞ்சன் னியாசியாச்சிரமத்திற்புகுந்தோன். பிரமசித்தி, s. Success, in acquiring a knowledge of the deity. பிரமசூத்திரம், s. A thread or cord consisting of three threads worn by brahmans, புரிநூல். 2. The name of a treatise, ஓர்நூல். பிரமசைதன்னியம், s. The original or first cause, God, கடவுள். பிரமஞானம், s. Experimental knowledge of the deity. 2. Regarding every thing as god. பிரமஞானி, s. One who has made great attainments in the knowledge of God, so as to become one with Him, பரமஞானி. பிரமதண்டம், s. A stick to support the chin, used by brahmans, in meditation. பிரமதண்டு, s. A stick used by devotees or yogis, யோகதண்டம். 2. See பிரமம், giddiness. பிரமதத்துவம், s. True knowledge of the Supreme deity, மெய்ஞ்ஞானம். பிரமதாயம், s. What is allowed to brahmans, or held free by them. பிரமதானம்--பிரமஸ்தானம், s. The inmost recess in a temple where the chief idol is placed, as கர்ப்பக்கிரகம். பிரமதேவன், s. The god Brahma, the Creator or Evolver of worlds. பிரமத்துவம், s. The divine nature, கட வுட்டன்மை. பிரமநிருவாணம், s. Union with the deity, கடவுளுடனொன்றுகை. பிரமபதம்--பிரமபதவி, s. The world of Brahma, an inferior state of bliss. பிரமபுத்திரம், s. The river, Brahmaputra, ஓர்நதி. பிரமபுத்திரி, s. The Sarasvati river, சரஸ்வதியாறு. 2. The goddess Sarasvati, சரஸ்வதி. பிரமபுரம், s. Seehali, a town in Southern India on the northern bank of the Cavery, சீகாழி. பிரமபுராணம், s. Puranas which teach that Brahma is the chief deity. In the celebrated eighteen there are two of this class. the பிரமம், and the பதுமம். (சது.) பிரமப்பிரளயம், s. The deluge at the end of the life of Brahma, பிரமனாயுள்முடி வில்வரும்பிரளயம். பிரமமணம், s. One of the eight modes of marriage. See மணம். பிரமமுனி--பிரமரிஷி, s. A Rishi of the Brahman caste, as most of them are. பிரமமூலி, s. A medicinal plant. See பிரமி. பிரமயாகம், s. One of the five யாகம், எச்சமைந்தினொன்று. பிரமயோனி, s. The birth, origin, or extraction of a brahman, பிராமணப்பிறப்பு. பிரமரட்சு, s. A savage man of a monstrous size, பருத்தமுருடன். பிரமரந்திரம், s. The tender part of the crown of the head where the bone is not formed in infancy, and through which it is said the soul of a yogi departs when he chooses to die, உச்சித்துவாரம். பிரமராட்சதன், s. A goblin or savage animated by the soul of a brahman, who in a former birth died with unexpiated sin. பிரமராட்சதி-பிரமராட்சதை, s. The ghost of a brahmani who having died a violent death appears in the form of a demon, inhabiting trees and possessing all the knowledge previously obtained, பார்ப் பாரப்பெண்பேய். பிரமலிபி, s. The writing of Brahma in the forehead of all persons before birth; fate, destiny. See தலைஎழுத்து. பிரமலிபிதப்பாது. The writing of Brahma will not fail. பிரமலோகம், s. The world and heaven of Brahma, being the seventh and highest of the seven upper worlds, also called சத்தியலோகம். (சது.) பிரமவமிசம், s. Lineage in succession from Brahma. 2. The race of brahmans, பிராமணசாதி. பிரமவாதம், s. The religious tenets of the Vedas considered systematically, வேதமதம். பிரமவித்து, s. One of the four grades of those who pursue a true and perfect knowledge of the deity, நால்வகைமுத்தரி லொருவன். பிரமவிந்து--பிரமபிந்து. s. The seed, or progeny of a brahman, &c., பிராமணவிந்து. 2. One of the thirty-two Upanishads. See உபநிடதம். பிரமனாள், s. The fourth lunar asterism, உரோகிணி. (சது.) பிரமன்--பிரமா, s. Brahma of the Triad, as creator, progenitor or evolver of worlds and creatures, நான்முகன். பிரமன்--பிரமா, s. Brahma of the Triad, as creator, progenitor or evolver of worlds and creatures, நான்முகன். பிரமன்றந்தை, s. Vishnu as father of Brahma, விஷ்ணு. பிரமாஞ்சலி, s. A form of worship in which the two hands are joined, and placed at the breast. பிரமாட்சரம், s. A letter which is the origin of all letters, and the prime root of all prayers and incantations, மூலவெ ழுத்து. பிரமாண்டம், s. The system of worlds, as created by Brahma, உலகம். 2. One of the eighteen Puranas, பதினெண்புரா ணத்தொன்று. 3. [fig.] That which is large, gigantic, huge, colossal, காத்திரம். (usage.) பிரமாண்டநாயகன், s. Lord of the universe, கடவுள். 2. An epithet used in praise, or compliment, சக்கரவர்த்தி. பிரமாத்திரம்--பிரமாஸ்திரம், s. A famous arrow of supernatural qualities, given by Brahma to some, who had practised extraordinary austerities. பிரமாந்தரம், s. Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, உயிர்நிலை. பிரமாயு, s. The age of Brahma, as பிர மகற்பம்; [ex ஆயு.] பிரமாயுதம், s. A number, one million, பத்திலட்சம். (சது.) பிரமாரண்ணியம், s. The name of a town called வேதாரண்ணியம். பிரமாலயம், s. The house of a brahman. பிரமானந்தம், s. Heavenly bliss, or felicity, as பரமானந்தம். பிரமோத்தரகாண்டம், s.
