āṟu (p. 43) s. A river, natural current, brook, channel or passage through shallows, a canal, நதி. (c.) 2. (p.) Way, road, path, mode, manner, rule, method, order, custom, circumstance, வழி. In this sense, in verse, the று, is sometimes omitted. 3. Morality, virtue, good conduct, way in a moral sense, the good or right way, ஒழுக்கம. சுரருலகெய்துமாறளித்தான. He endowed him with the bliss of the gods, or literally, granted that he should attain to the world of the gods. யான்வந்தவாசென்றியம்புதி Go and tell that I am come--ஆ for ஆறு. என்றவாறு. A form added to explanations of grammatical rules, &c., implying such is the meaning. ஆறலைக்க, inf. To rob in the highway, infest the road, வழிப்பறிக்க. (p.) ஆறலை--ஆறலைப்பு, v. noun. Highway-robbery, street-robbery, வழிப்பறி க்கை. ஆறலைக்கள்வருமளியராயினார். Even the highway-robbers have proved friends. (நடை.) ஆறாடி, s. A lascivious, idle fellow, a vagabond, a pest. 2. The act of conducting, directing, &c., either physically or morally. 2. A poem, the object of which is to conduct one to a superior. விறலியாற்றுப்படை, s. The களா berry is as black as a crow. மதுரையின்வடக்குச்சிதம்பரம். Sethamparam is situated to the north of Madura. கல்வியிற்பெரியன்கம்பன். Kampan made himself great by learning. ஐந்தாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage shed when planted on the fifth day before the marriage, the third, fifth, or seventh day being chosen, as it may be lucky or otherwise, according to astrological calculation, மணப்பந்தரின் ஐந்தாங்கால். ஐந்தானம், s. The fifth lunar asterism, மிருகசீரிடம். (p.) ஐந்திணை, s. The five kinds of land, &c., ஐவகைநிலம். (See திணை.) 2. The closest friendship or love between husbands and wives, அன்புடைக்காமம். [in arithmetic.] The rule of five or double rule of three, ஓர்வகையெண்வினா. ஐந்தொழில், s. The five divine operations, பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், viz.: 1. சிருஷ்டி, creation or reproduction. 2. ஸ்திதி, preservation. 3. சங்காரம், destruction, reduction of things to their primitive elements. 4. திரோபவம், that act of the deity by which he conceals from the sentient soul its future destiny for purposes of moral discipline; concealing, obscuring; i. e. involving the soul in ignorance or illusion by means of magic. 5. அனுக்கிரகம், grace, the various means adopted for the deliverance of the soul from the power of illusion and consequent transmigrations. If a pot of oil come in collision with an empty pot, which, by breaking, is the greater loss; i.e. in collision, who is the sufferer, the man of character or the worthless person? ஒருகுடம்பாலுக்கொருதுளிஉறைமோர். One drop of butter-milk for coagulating a whole pot of milk; i. e. a good character, obligations of kindness, &c., are forfeited by a single bad action. புறக்குடத்துத் தண்ணீர்போல. Like water on the outside of a pot; i. e. forgotten as soon as learnt; advised or taught to no purpose. பொன்னின்குடத்துக்குப்பொட்டிடவேண்டுமோ.... Does it require that a golden pot be decorated; i. e. things of substantial worth need no embellishment. மாமியார்உடைத்தால்மண்குடம் மருமகளுடைத்தாற் பொன்குடம். If broken by the mother-inlaw, it is a mere earthen pot; but if by the daughter-in-law, it is a golden vessel; i. e. slight faults in inferiors are greatly magnified. குடங்கை, s. The palm of the hand. வெறுங்குடம், s. An empty pot. 2. (fig.) One who knows nothing. குறைகுடம், s. A water-pot not quite full. நிறைகுடம், s.
