(p.) ஐயர் is sometimes used in the nominative case for ஐயன்--as ஐயர்வந்தபின்புனக்குத்தருவேன். I will give it to you after my father, master, &c., is come. ஐயா. The vocative of ஐயன் is often used as an interjection. ஐயாபணமிரந்தாலுங்கொள்ளக்கிடையாதே... Strange indeed, though one has money, the thing is not to be bought. வாருமையா. Come, sir--a common term of salutation among persons of respectability. அரிவையைக்கோடியையா. Take a wife, sir, I beseech you--addressed by a father to his son. (ஸ்காந்.) அறைந்தாயைய. You say, sir. (பாரத.) ஐயகோ. Poetic interjection expressive of grief, alas, alas, O lord, இரக்கச் சொல். 26)

[prov.] A sea-conjurer who by magic prevents sharks, &c., from injuring divers, கடலிலுள்ளசெந் துக்களைத்தடைகட்டுவோன். கடல்நாய், s. A kind of sea-dog. கடல்நுரை, s. (lit. the froth of the sea.)
