(சது.) 5. The badge-string of the sacerdotal, the royal and of some mechanical tribes, பூணூல். 6. A string tied round an image in a Roman Catholic Church, in token of a vow, பொருத்தனைநூல். 7. A wedding-badge, தாலிநூல். 8. Carpenter's or mason's line, எற்றுநூல்.--In combination it takes grammatical changes like நால். Of நூல் or sacred learning there are நூ three: 1. முதனூல், an original scientific work regarded as divine, the Vedas; 2. வழிநூல், a work derived from and agreeing with the original, being an enlargement, as the Vedanta; 3. சார்புநூல், a work following the original, secondary, but differing in some particulars; collateral writings, as the Adwitta. நூற்பலகல். To pass round one another--as combatants, or as birds, &c., in a circle, சுற்றிச்சுற்றிவர. 3. To make ornamental, astrological or mystic diagrams, commonly of a circular figure, யந்திரம்வகுக்க. மண்டலவிதி, s. Directions for making diagrams, for worship, &c. மண்டலபுருடன், s. [also called வீரமண் டலவன்.] A Jaina ascetic equally eminent as a poet and lexicographer. His poetic lexicon சூடாமணிநிகண்டு, outshines all similar productions in Tamil. He also wrote an epic poem in honor of Argha, ஓர்நிகண்டாசிரியன். மண்டலாகாரம், s. A circular figure, course, &c., வட்டவடிவம். மண்டலாபிஷேகம், s.
